Thanks! The ISO part is only right in practical terms for calculating exposure, that's true. However, the same short-hand was used with film... ISO 400 film isn't actually more sensitive than 100 speed film, generally speaking... the processing was different. Still, people described higher ISO film as requiring less light (or being more sensitive to light) but grainier, though ultimately higher ISO film had more contrast and reduced tonal range.

I was speaking more generally, in practical terms, and with some cameras (Canon, in particular), you still need to expose as if ISO were the same thing as the ISO rating of film. The same thing was true with film; I could shoot ISO 400 film at 1600 and then push process it. I'd get higher contrast, less shadow detail, and more grain along with my faster shutter speeds.
Let us all start calling it what it is. Amplification. Then the industry might start using it as well and the truth will be applied. Also in Canon it is amplification. No difference there.
