- This video was done by the late Robert G. Sage, Sr. and long time friend Frank Mentone.
although they both worked for the Central Railroad of New Jersey , They both loved the Pennsylvania Railroad . This video is made from 8mm home movies.
Hope you enjoy!
Len.
Many a mile,I put in going to high school in Pennsylvania! Those G's could go like the wind!![ As an aside, the father and mother of those GG-1's were NYC P- motors, and New Haven EP's]! The history of the PRR goes deep, and thankfully the Norfolk Southern has a heritage unit,in PRR colors,as does NJT! Memories kept alive! Thank you 😇 😊!
Excellent catch of the Tubular Passenger Trains at 5:12. Excellent video. An overall A+++++. Thank you for posting and sharing
remember the pennsylvania RR tracks behind my house. also seen the broadway limited & the trailblazers many a time. we farmed land on both sides of the tracks
those were the days, they had cabooses then on freight trains still. it was sad to
see them disappear.
I used to take the named trains from Penn Station in Newark to Lewistown, Pennsylvania, to catch the Fullington bus up to State College when I went to Penn State.
Such as the Spirit of St. Louis/The Cincinnati Limited, The Admiral, The Juniata, and others.
I miss the Pennsy.
I love the Pennsylvania Railroad's express and limited trains, especially being pulled by the GG1s.
Wonderful films, especially love the electric freights, thanks for posting this!
4:18. Awesome footage of the GG1 and the music to match. 4:06, love the rerouted H and M train. 9:43. Love the music for the footage. 5:45 with the train coming out is awesome too
One of the voices is Ronald C. Wallace famous Agent Orange of Orange NJ on the Lackawanna Dead now.
The K-4 Steam Locomotive Number 1361 was retired from making its final runs from South Amboy NJ to Bayhead NJ. and return. Does anyone know whether the Locomotive Changes from Electric to Steam and Vice Vera were done at one time or another at Union Interlocking on the North East Corridor? I know that there were Electric to Diesel Locomotives and Vice Versa changes there sometime in the past.
YEAH !! WHAT'S WITH THE MOZART MUSIC 🎶
Unfortunately, the Keystones were a failure.
thank for this! used to watch train at adams station and monmouth junction 68-72.
Priceless film.....GREAT!!!!
So wonderful seeing older power on the curve. Excellent!
If only we could hear the original audio!
This was excellent and so cool seeing GG1s, E44s, and Metroliners in action.
A labor of love. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful PC and PRR memories. Thanks for posting this -- I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for this video. It brings back many memories.
so cool
Good stuff!!
The good old days before the dark ages of the 1970s set in.
Best Pennsylvania railroad film ever
Love the gg1s
The only minor detail is that a significant part of it is not PRR but PennCentral...
Still penn central is pennsylvania railroad
And New York central and New York new haven and Hartford railroad all merged
i love the pennsyvania rr
What a great video !!
Amazing footage! It makes me want to go through all my Grandfather's 8mm movies. He always had it with him. I wonder if there are any hidden gems on them? Thanks for sharing
It is so nice to see the well kept plant of the Standard Railway of the World, as the PRR used to be known, without the equipment defacing made possible by the now available spray paint cans used by graffiti vandals. And the music is very appropriate to reflect on what we have lost. 2016/09/11.
Nice
real nice
11:11,14:20,16:34,16:41,17:13 budd metroliner
Those MP-54s must have been a Holy Mother to drive. Their turret controllers had NO DEADMAN!! You had to hold the handle off zero the whole f%*@ing time or carry a wedge and be extra carful not to get caught!
I remember those MP-54s running between Baltimore and Washington in commuter service. They had a nice hum to them when they would start off.
Very fond memories of the Pennsy's Electrics and Horseshoe Curve! Do you suppose the business car at 5:35 is the Pennsylvania 120? The car that carried Bobby Kennedy on his final trek from NYC to Washington in 1968?
PACING GG-1s at 10:27! Bravo!
@4:38 Two E-44s!
They did care until USA only regulations drove passenger railroads out of existence. These same regulations requires amtrak to put concrete blocks in their cascades trains to satisfy the minimum weight for a train. No railroad is going to do inane things like that.
I miss peen trains
I hate the railroads of today, not giving a crap about passengers
I really enjoyed this as I spent a lot of my youth on the Pennsylvania Railroad in and around Lancaster and New York City. I like the music and would like to know the name and artist of the piano piece played around 13:41. I have searched too long on my on. Thanks.
What is with this inappropriate music? What the hell does Verdi have to do with the PRR?
What s**t music.
