You don't need to attach the franchise name to this show. You have a creative, entertaining and well formulated story here. Now I'm looking for the next episode. With whatever means you managed to come up with this during the television "desert" we seem to be in, you've definitely hit it right. Can't wait for more episodes!

Someone not liking the production quality of this show has nothing to do with seeing any other project. I get it. I really do but when you work on these types of projects it's imperative to look at your work for what it is. This is rough around the edges in every area and It's boring. Creating a new world and having it look and feel real isn't easy. I know this from personal and active experience.

20:36 and 11:44 what is with all the depictions of Islam & one of my favourite actors Robert Piccardo depicting a Muslim?? it was enough of a negative for me not to want to support the production as it seems that the agenda here is to portray Islam as benign & benevolent, when from my research of Islam and discussions with Muslims it is far from that, for example given the majority of Muslims wish to impose Sharia law globally. Evidence for my claim Pew research URL pewforumDOTorg/2013/04/30/the-worlds-muslims-religion-politics-society-overview/
Under Sharia in an Islamic state there are circumstances where the following inherently non-violent actions, blasphemy, adultery, homosexuality or apostasy calls for capital punishment. Any religion that seeks to impose a legal system that would see the death penalty for acts that are inherently non-violent has no place in our cultural lexicon, and it isn't racist to say so.
Gene Roddenberry himself is said to have rejected the idea of religion lasting into Humanity's future, I guess this isn't Star Trek.

@Chris Bailey No really, the 'pilot' was shit. Not B movie shit, but really shit. You can throw Trek actors at a shit script just to lure in desperate trekkies who will defend it, doesn't make it any less shit. And it's played completely straight as if it's the greatest thing since sliced bread instead of a regurgitated mess of copy / pasta. I can see the 'author' and his wife chugging away copious bottles of cheap wine writing this drivel. And then they do this, yeah! And then this happens! And this and then this! It's like reading the Old Testament. Bah.

Just because you are used to 35 million dollar CGI budgets doesn't make this a fan film grade anything. I'd ask, can you do better? Science Fiction is full of dreamers.

I wouldn't call it, "The Greatest Star Trek Series," but it has possibilities. Some of the actors are a tad stiff in their delivery but that will go away as they become comfortable in their roles. And I like the idea of putting a positive spin on Star Trek. The new series, available on commercial channels, seem heavy on violence, gore, corruption, and a rather dismal outlook on the future of humankind in the universe. So I'll support your endeavor and hope you can bring it all up to speed once the pandemic is under control. Considering the circumstances, I think you all did a darn good job of putting this together. Congratulations!

    • @molochsorcery4357
      @molochsorcery4357 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Dismal outlook? Well in truth astrophysicists tell us the universe is chaos personified and it IS trying to kill us so what's your beef? You can't expect every alien race the Federation runs across is going to welcome them with open arms. And Starfleet always had corruption within its ranks even Picard had to deal with that in the upper echelons of Starfleet on more than one occasion.
While I am certainly enjoying this show, I wouldn't call it "Star Trek" per se but it has a very Trek-esque feel to it.

it is the nature of crowdfunded independent productions. Obviously the production value is going to be much lower than mainstream Hollywood, but we watch for what they accomplish with little, rather than seeing them waste a lot, right? Its the story, the characters, and the vision of the creators rather than consensus of a corporation attempting to please sponsors and advertisers.

This was what gave the world Middle-earth.
In his youth, Tolkien read the Medieval Romantic/Celtic Fantasies available then, such as the various Arthurian Legends, the works of people such as William Morris, Kenneth Morris (no relation), Evangeline Walton, James Hogg, John Cowper Powys, Lord Dunsany, John Francis Campbell, and so on.... (William Morris specifically was a MAJOR INFLUENCE, where we find the DIRECT ORIGINS of Easterlings, Mirkwood, Southrons, Gandalf, Orcs, and many, many, many other things we find in Middle-earth. Tolkien and his son Christopher both mention William Morris by name as a primary inspiration, and something Tolkien “wanted more of”).
And, as he became older (in College/University) he discovered that he had “ran out of such works.” And he states that since he could find no other such works in existence, he would just have to create them himself.
Out of this the first concept of the “Fall of Gondolin” arose, and then the Myth of Lethian and Beren (or sometimes “Beorn” at that time), the Precursor to “Beren & Lúthien.”
At some point I need to circle back around to Tolkien’s works again, and re-read the Secondary, Tertiary, and External Sources associated with Middle-earth (The History of Middle-earth, Vols I - XII; The Letters of JRRT; The Road to Middle-earth; The City of God - St. Augustine; The Consolidation of Theology/Philosophy - Boethius [these latter two the Foundational Theology and Metaphysical Sources for Middle-earth’s “existence”]; and the various Medieval Romantic/Celtic Fantasies that inspired Tolkien) in order to refresh the understanding of his works, and the “Philosophical and Metaphysical Foundations” that support Middle-earth, giving rise to an explanation for the identity, existence, properties, and so-on of everything IN Middle-earth (Tolkien discusses this in Vol X of THoM-e, pointing out that this “framework” and “Foundation” allows one to “understand,” and usually explain, as well, everything within Middle-earth - He struggled with some aspects that have since been discovered to be necessary consequences/outcomes of Catholic Theology that lead to what have been ruled “Heresies.” Tolkien spent the last 15 to 20 years trying in vain to resolve these paradoxes, contradictions, and the Heresies they inevitably lead to - or as Tolkien would say “Outcomes that are doomed to be from the creation of the Universe”).
But this motivation is largely behind every work of creativity.

GabrielKish No. The issue of Heresy in Middle-earth begins with the “Wells of Varda” and Ungoliantë. Well... Technically it begins even earlier than that, in around the 2nd Century BCE, as a major and fundamental flaw in Catholicism and Christianity as a whole, having to do with what is called “Theodicy” (The “Question of Evil.” What is “Evil?” - With a “Capital-E” - Where does it come from? And most importantly WHY is there Evil).
This is a kind of hard thing to cover on TH-cam (or even on Quora, which I occasionally will post to, but given that I currently suffer from two disabilities, one major and physical, the other cognitive and more to do with a failure of character (Having suffered some severe damage from accidents in the late-80s, and again in 1999 that left my left-side in rather sad shape. And just laziness in gathering the appropriate sources and references to produce a credible post/answer on a forum I consider to be unethical, and actually immoral as well, where my own labor, and that of others, is being appropriated for the benefit of others whose own Moral and Ethical Standards are pretty fucking low).
And technically these problems existed prior to Catholicism, with the Classical Greeks (Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, and others) pretty much having already covered the ground of trying to claim an “Omnipotent, Loving, Prime Creator” while Evil Exists in the World. It is a claim that is inherently contradictory (all properties CANNOT be simultaneously True).
But Catholicism/Christianity inherited this conundrum, and then all of the “Solutions” to the problems arising from the contradictions they insisted on maintaining were subsequently ruled “Heresies” due to what was basically Human Ego, Narcissism, and the desire to maintain power in Europe and the Mediterranean.
The Heresy closest to Middle-earth, that Tolkien kept tripping over is called “Manichaeanism.” Manichaeanism is a form of Property Dualism whereby “Good” and “Evil” (The “Capital-G/E” varieties. BTW, pay attention to when Tolkien Capitalizes something. This indicates a “Formal Property/Thing” in Middle-earth that is not the same as the uncapitalized version) are tangible things, that exist in themselves (they are “Ontological,” and “Existential” “Stuff” that you can put in your pocket, have a cup of, bake a cake with, and so on).
This is contrary to the Early-Church’s declaration that “Evil” is just the “Absence of Good/God” as set-out by Church Founders such as St. Augustine, Origen, St. Francis, and so on....
      OOPS!
But the Christian/Catholic God is ALSO “Omnipresent” (He/It - TECHNICALLY God to the Early-Christians was EXPLICITLY MALE... a “He” - exists at every point in the Universe without exception).
How then do we have “Evil” as the “Absence of Good/God” if we have an “Omnipresent God.”
Again... 300_ years prior to the existence of Christianity the Greek Philosophers had already spelled out the problem with this version of “God” and “Good/Evil.”
But to make matters worse, Tolkien knowingly introduces Manichaean Dualism into Middle-earth while trying to call it “Something “Else”.” This is first revealed to Tolkien’s readers in the “Wells of Varda” (“Light” that is a “Physical Thing” that can be used as a component of Gemstones. That can be contained in great wells surrounding Two Great Trees, from which this “Light” falls as dew. “Light” that can then be “scooped-up” and scattered across the sky to make “Stars”). Following this, we are introduced to a “Darkness” that is more than just the “Absence of light” (

Very impressive for a pilot. Very old-school, with excellent dialogue, and great acting all around. A lot of time was spent in character development, which is not really done any more on tv or in film. The audience has a short attention span, and tv executives are always problematic, as they can negatively interfere and ruin things. This show lacks the frenetic action, bleakness and depression of current sci-fi, and will do well for that alone. Space Command has the same 'flavour' of positivity found on The Orville. The many big name actors involved clearly shows there is a lot of good-will for this show. The right audience will overlook the green-screens and low quality sets, if the story and acting are good. Familiar plot points like ancient sinister alien races, and the morality of slave robots, make for comfortable and enjoyable watching. I regularly re-watch certain old movies and tv shows, because they hit the highlights and respect traditional story-telling. Space Command looks like it's very 're-watchable'. Congratulations to everyone involved.

What I love the most: you brought Babylon 5, TNG, VOY, and other sci-fi actors all together for one series and it actually feels like I am watching a crossover of sorts! The ship designs are cool and give me a bit of a Flash Gordon mixed with Battlestar Galactica type of vibe. Doug Jones is awesome in this by the way! I love the android concept.
Now the negative: some of the special effects don’t seem that believable to me and do need some work. The acting sometimes seems wooden and cheesy..needs a bit of polishing. The costume designs also need a bit of a tweak to them also.

LOl the shot against Detroit made me laugh "sometimes it's hard getting used to going outside without protection, you die"
"I'm from Detroit, Sir" (I ALWAYS have protection)
I would love it if the episodes were linked

Thank you for saving science fiction and putting it back on track. Thank you....I rate this , at this stage ,as good as ,if not better than Picard.Take off reminded me so much of Gerry Anderson’s “Fireball XL5” .It was fresh, enthusiastic and has started to build realistic 3-D characters..signed an ancient once loyal Doctor Who fan.

Modern writers, even those who mouth words about "Star Trek is optimistic" still don't get it. It's not about some optimistic character fighting to restore or improve "the system". In Star Trek, OUR system is good and the characters believe in it. The fight is either against the action of outside BAD systems, or against certain individuals with corrupt intent. It is NEVER against our own society or cultural structures as a whole.

It's easy to demonize humanity when you conceptualize us as ignorant and hateful at our core. Tells you how the writer feels about his fellow man.

Never is a strong word. Star Trek frequently features stories which critique current structures. What makes the show as a whole optimistic is that it assumes we will survive until we reach a post-scarcity society.

@Ken Tuttle This is a work of fairly utopian scifi. There's no point in bothering to watch it if you can't suspend your personal disbelief, and no point in raising the ugly specters of real history to try to justify what is, ultimately, your apparent inability to lose yourself to escapism for an hour or so. That said, if you really want to engage on people being good or evil you'll need to define your idea of "good" for us first. My own observations (both personal and historical) suggest that individuals are generally innocuous but groups often behave badly, especially when regarded from outside a given group.

    • @v3rlon
      @v3rlon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Ken Tuttle An optimist believes the world is as good as it can be. A pessimist is afraid that it is. The same human history you cite as proof of our bad nature can be used to argue for our good nature. It's a bit more work, but working for good always is. It is far easier to hate than to love.

The sound could use some work. Most of the time it sounds like everyone is standing in a small green room when they talk (which they probably are). Something that could easily be fixed in post by adding in filters and effects to everyone's voices to fit the background. It kinda pulls you out of the show when you see stuff like someone talking in an open air car driving through the countryside, but they sound like they are talking in a box barely big enough to fit a car. Big spaces don't feel big when it doesn't sound like it.

I know what you mean but I am not so sure....for me it felt like I was reading a comic and the lines are all in my head. Maybe then can produce two audio tracks, one dry and one processed as you suggest @TimeFreak either way I love the pilot episode.

Also spec effects and music sound was too loud, it dwarfed the dialogue. Don't have big boom sounds and dialogue at the same time ......and get that weird sculptured chest thing off the 'Captain' guy it makes him look like a douche-bag. 'A' for effort though.
