Plus he wears so many cool rockstar jackets and blazers on stage...I met him at the pfunky griddle a pancake place in Nashville across from black bird studio and he literally had just finished recording the vocals for Sicilian crest, he wasn't wearing his glasses and the only reason I recognized him was his tattoos and also when I heard his voice when he ordered I was like holy shit Mr darnielle you're my hero. He gave me 6 hugs and had a 10 minute conversation with me. Greatest most genuine human being I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

possums are my favorite animal in the world. The mountain goats are my favorite band in the world. Thanks John, I will never forget that high five after you played at my college when i was much younger, chaotic and reckless. And when that time comes i will fill my collection with everything "the mountain goats." Ive been in hosptials and to therapy and ive had every pill known to man. The only thing that seems to help is a 6 pack and a good healthy dose of the mountain goats music. I will walk on dry land and sing praises of the mountain goats until they take it away from me.
I remember seeing Owen Pallett as a kid (anybody under 30 is a kid) play at The Vinyl Cafe show in Windsor, Ontario a very long time ago. I was impressed by his talent, and now he's a big time producer.

I like this a lot...! Could anybody in the know please tell me wich album is best to start to get to know them/him...? I fell in love with WE SHALL ALL BE HEALED in 2004/05, listened to it a lot but for some stupid reason almost never listened to anything else by them... always tried every new album to „get charmed“ but it wasn’t supposed to happen until now I guess... NOW is my time for THE MOUNTAIN GOATS, I can feel it...! Please help me out here...
Kenneth Fiend “Tallahassee” is the second album of theirs I listened to and I still think it’s my favorite if not tied with “The Coroner’s Gambit” which is a little harder to get into because of the audio quality of the production. Can’t go wrong with “The Sunset Tree” either, their most popular and acclaimed album to date
Papa John thx man. Have absolutely no problem with low-fi productions though... like... at all. I love the idea of using the tape hiss as another instrument... as Salvador Dalí Said; Talent does what he can, genius does what he wants.
Interesting music ! . We like it ! . Allot ! . . Now we have the standard five promoter questions to ask . How much money per appearance ? . Do they do charity events pro-bono or at cost of operations ? . What is there range of travel for an appearance ? . How frequently can they be available . What label are they signed to ? . Answer in the reply please , so every one will know how to get them live at there events , they deserve it . Thank you ! .
Thanks for your questions. KEXP books bands for sessions that we already are playing on air (since we are primarily a radio station), and typically the bands are already in town (Seattle) on tour or are local to the area.
The only mildly dissatisfying thing was when he busted out such a "nice" acoustic... a seasoned galleon of a guitar that's been to hell and back somehow seems like it'd be more fitting

John is the best songwriter of his generation! Love The Mountain Goats. Will miss Peter Hughes.
Love the other three to death, but tmg will never be the same without Peter. He made all the songs he played a part in, complete
Oh no, I wasn't aware, that is such a huge blow.:(
in all my years of loving the mountain goats, i have NEVER seen the tattoos on johns arms before
He's usually very adamant about how his tats are personal and that he doesn't want them seem.
Well, as of about 2008 or 9 he did not have any visible. Check the video for Sax Rohmer 1.

Holy wow. This version of Magpie is out of control.

Great episode with one of my favorite bands. It’s fascinating to hear the process behind one of the best albums of 2019.
Love the stories he tells !! Thanks again KEXP
Jon Wurster! Hell yeah!
Came all the way from Newbridge.
How can you not love a songwriter who uses Maria McKee as an influence??!
Love the juxtaposition between JD wearing a jacket in the last one and t shirt with new balances in this one lmao

It's so nice to see Carlos D back on the bass
God. When the bass came in.
So nice of Tyrion Lannister to take a break from his political career to come and play drums for John 🙏
