I thought you were going to show gray whales in the surf. That is actually something my wife and I saw one day at Newport Beach between the two piers. It blew my mind because I'd never heard of such behavior. My conclusion was the waves and sand possibly make another barnacle scraper or perhaps they were just scratching their backs. The waves were only about 50 feet from shore and being that close to the magnificent beasts was inspiring. It was the first time I was able to share our beaches with my love who is from the Washinngton D.C. area and is something we'll never forget.
There have been a few people writing comments, concerned about us disturbing the dolphins. When I filmed this we puposely stayed back from the dolphin pod so people could see that the dolphins move back to join us. Anyone who has spent time with dolphins knows they will come over to boat to surf or bow ride and will do this with anything bigger than them that moves through the water. We become a dolphin toy when we are near them. Dolphin calves ride their Moms pressure wave to keep up with the pod. One of the other videos we have on TH-cam is of dolphins riding on front of a humpback whale from a drone. Even if we were in middle of the pod the dolphins would come to us not swim away from us. Please do not be concerned, we love these animals and with the deep water we have off California and the speeds we travel at we could not injure them even if we tried... which of course we never would. Capt. Dave
You think of whales as being huge blubbery things and so they are, but this video shows how they are also a very long lean streamlined shape - perfect for efficiency in water. You need a big overhead pic like this to get that showing up properly. Majestic beings who evolved fifty million years before our human ancestors came down form the trees. We know nothing about what is going on in those massive mysterious brains. It's like an ant trying to work out what a human is thinking I suppose. We must accord these beings huge respect forever more.
Blue whales are the largest creatures that have ever lived on Earth. I feel extremely privileged to live in the same time period and place with these magnificent creatures. Beautiful!💕🐳💕
Gorgeous. How can anyone dislike this amazing view of magnificent beasts? I know. There's a lot of jerks out there...regardless SUBSCRIBED! Thanks for the beautiful views!
State Briga Please support the removal of barnacles by the temporary capture and decrusting of Whales. These beasts should not be allowed to foul our oceans.
State Briga about the decrusting of whales I am .as for drones possibly pestering any living thing please show me the animals written consent. just leave them alone
S. mond it's eyes are on the side of its face and the drone is a very small object making little to no sound through flight, it can't see or hear the drone... and is hardly bothered by it.. jeez.
LOVE the huge pod of Pacific Dolphins. I've seen this while on a cruise from San Pedro to Catalina and Mexico. Right at sunset they all came out and swam alongside the liner. It was breathtaking! Thank you for sharing such GORGEOUS videos 💛
I really wish I could se one in person! It's incredible to see on video, but I have a feeling I'll never be able to comprehend this till I see it in real life! This is an amazing capture, thanks for sharing!
my father, whom sailed around the world for many years, used to tell me stories of seeing dolphins and whales - especially talking about the pods of dolphins and your footage confirms the sights he must have seen. i truly appreciate your channel. i go on the whale watches from Glousecter and Boston every year. i would gladly make the trip to yours just to see the dolphins.
Being able to see whales and dolphins like this then there is no need for aquariums except for rescue and rehab. then release them if they're able to survive in the wild. Very peaceful and relaxing to watch, thanks for sharing!
blue whales are so beautiful , the size of them compared to that boat is one of the most amazing things iv ever seen , thank you so much for capturing such great footage , I'm glad you were able to see the size difference between them and humans , truly amazing !!
years ago i was in a 12' zodiac (with 35hp) out of dana pt heading along the coast towards laguna - to my right a huge whale suddenly came straight up out of the water - i could see the barnacles. it was a humbling experience - i had another Heineken and carried on.
Wow. I just posted my own drone video of Blue Whales in the Sea of Cortez with a Phantom 3 Pro and this was listed next to mine. So glad I clicked on it. Wonderful footage. Well done!
EXCELLENT work filming with your drone, Capt. Dave! This is really moving seeing a giant blue this close up from above. :oD I look forward to heading out with you again sometime soon! ~ Leslie Jeanne Morava
I enjoyed watching this video filled with beauty. I've been to Gloucester and saw humpback whales. I feel so connected to whales and dolphins. One of the things on my bucket list is seeing Blue Whales up close. I've never been to the west coast but when I do have the opportunity I will look Captain Dave's up.
I apologize! I re read the title and it is indeed a megapod of dolphins. I was completely clueless as how that many blue whales at that size would be traveling together. Amazing footage!
Amazing video. Thanks for showing the great things you can do with these quadcopters. I'm in Orange County too, but I still haven't made it down to Dana Point yet. So many beautiful places to fly here in SoCal and so little time. :)
"..except the Whales and Dophins who had long ago made off the Planet Earth by their own means..." The Hitch-Hikers Guide To The Galaxy explains that Arthur Dent wasn't the Only Earthling to survive the Vogons plans for a Hyper-space Bypass ? I've no words = Beautiful !
1:51 that image with the boat as reference really shows how massive this animal is! Too bad theres not a lot of footage like that, with some reference, great job!
Wow oh man is beautiful so much! These images are a great treasure for all people in the earth what ignore the existense of these sea life. And very sad because these species are in the extintion border by the selfman . GOD bless you ,Great video!
simply stunning bud.......you must have one of the best jobs in the world......such majestic creatures.....thank you for sharing. Just read some of the posts too and personally think the music choice was great......you got yourself another subscriber...:)
Would it be possible to get a lower, closer view of them with the drone? I feel like our view is so far away. They are only a smidgen of the screen, and we could see so much more, if you could get lower down. It's a respectful request. Thanks for thinking about it. 😄
I saw a blue whale once - it appeared as an enormous mottled blue "island" rolling up next to the boat. Then as a gigantic black-looking tail descending vertically into the twilight deeps. Enormous and overpowering sight. But not elegant or beautiful. The only way to see the superb elegance of the blue whale is from aerial shots like this. I'd enjoyed seeing a few aerial photos of living blue whales, slim and sleek as gigantic arrows - but this live footage is so exhilarating. For one thing: the blowhole looks exactly what it really is... an enormous NOSE opening and closing, placed way back there by evolution.
Question to the Drone operator. How does this work within the legality of amateur use of drones in a commerical endeavor (i.e. whale watching ?) We here in Alaska would like to potentially use drones to help clients get a better view of our whale visitors.
Thanks for that. Amazing footage! We have a science conference coming up next week here in Homer, Alaska and this is going to be a topic of discussion among the various government and private businesses present.
How are you able to get this footage? Last I checked it was illegal to do this. If you are able to do it without breaking the law then sign me up!! I want to do this as well!
Beautiful and Big Brother is watching. I only hope these beautiful beings are left alone to their lives and not hunted. Bugs me t hat they have nowhere to hide from prying eyes--like us!
2Ply789 I am wide awake and not so rude as you. I normally wouldn't even respond. I am thankful the right people are watching... and that wasn't my point, so you wake up! It's when a group or individual shows what forest the white deer is in, etc., that all of a sudden that beings life is at risk. That is why it's sad, because hunters will come en masse, or some idiotic wanna be. So if you want to tell me to wake up -- you have no clue how AWAKE I really am, so go... wake up yourself.
If any is interested in this music, it's called "Journey to Annúminas" & can be downloaded here: davidhollandsworth.bandcamp.com/track/journey-to-ann-minas Thanks!
Just a question about your last shot. You have some amazing footage of the whales nonetheless. However, I have a question for you, as you are probably much more educated on the topic than I am. When I am viewing this last shot of the whales as you call them a "Megapod" (I can not define it), I cannot help but to ask what is the actual size of a blue whale? From the diagrams and information I can find they tend to be about 100f (30m) in length. The animals I see beside your boat come to about 1/5th of the entire size of your vessel. Does this mean that the whales I am seeing (at 100m in length) are next to a boat 500m in length? Compared to the scale and comparing with the size of the passengers on the boat, they seem to be DRASTICALLY shorter. They seem closer to the size of a dolphin in my opinion. Is this a pod of infantile whales? I just can't seem to interpret the vast size of what is supposed to be the largest mammal on earth compared to what I am seeing above the surface of the water. Some of them break the surface, so are obviously not so deep as to skew the size reference. Again, I am simply curious as to what I am seeing.
Well to be honest the largest blue whales around that area are about 21-23 metres, not quite the giants of the antarctic pre whaling days so that in itself will be visibly different in size, also 20 metres is not huge anyway so these animals are bug but not really enormous, obviously the true blues of the past over 32metres and nearly 200tons would be a very impressive animal to see and also the saurapods up to size of 60 metres would have been a sight.
Dolphin Safari, is there a certain time to see blue whales? I would really really REALLY love to see a blue whale off of Dana Point. And is there a certain ship/tour that sees more blue whales than others?
What amazing footage. I was able to see 3 Blue Whales on a trip back to Dana Point from Avalon several years ago. It was absolutely spectacular!
Jim Butler , I deeply envy you! 😞

Great video sir, amazing to see..Thank you for posting it.
I think people should pay more attention to the hunting of marine animals and marine pollution instead of the contact of love between species
david anderson, 👍Nice video Capt. Dave!🐋🐬
Beautiful video of our Loving Whales/Dolphins...Delightful and Inspiring...Love it and Thank You...

Have you ever seen a blue whale in person?
WHY DO I LOVE WHALES SO MUCH!?!?
Because they are gentle giants
They are massive, amazing, creatures to behold!
I feel complete peace
Never, will I tire of whale watching!
@@carrotinabucket1387, not only gentle, but also quite smart and curious.
I loveeeeeee them too so much with a passion 🌸🌸

Seriously disturbed to dislike this!
Super crappy graphics and wildly incommensurate soundtrack? These are aesthetic crimes against whales!
how can anyone dislike this?

wow blue whales belong to the rarest creatures on that planet, great to catch alteast those ones by camera =)
Such majestic animals. ..this is amazing ❤
Some amazing shots there. Well done, a pure pleasure to watch.
my heart responds, what an amazing world right off our shoreline
Beautiful footage. The streamlining of a blue whale never ceases to amaze me and we could never see it properly before drones.

Tom Hound , I’m so mad I wasn’t there! I envy you! Jealous, much! 😔
Great video! I always get nervous when I see the calves because they can be easily killed.

Amazing!
The most beautiful site in the world thanks for this is wonderful!!
Wow. Shares! The Blues! who would have ever thought a drone could be a good thing -- for saving these creatures off our coastline.
This is one of the best drone videos I've ever seen. I loved it. I just wonder if drones could change the behavior of whales.
great. thanks for sharing. everything was beautiful.
Amazing.
Awesome footage! Love to go out on Lily and expierence those massive creatures
Beautiful Blue Whales. Or as the Japanese would say. Lunch!
wow! Went on one of your cruises a year ago- Loved it! This is spectacular!
Blue whales are very elegant looking: sleek and streamlined like a giant living torpedo.
do you some with Orcas too? I'd really love to see some those too. you did a wonderful job.
1:51 that image with the boat as reference really shows how massive this animal is! Too bad theres not a lot of footage like that, with some reference, great job!

Simply beautiful
Amazing footage. Strange choice of music though IMO.
Very cool. New subscriber here! #DRONEON
Wow, absolutely amazing footage. What drones and camera gear do you use? It looks like you are also using the Shark V2 CE? Or is that a SkyZone?
Would it be possible to get a lower, closer view of them with the drone? I feel like our view is so far away. They are only a smidgen of the screen, and we could see so much more, if you could get lower down. It's a respectful request. Thanks for thinking about it. 😄

Wonderful film
3:43 whale on the right creates rainbow, looks cool.
I have nightmares about whales... like i'm scuba diving and get hit by a whale tail... But they are SO beautiful to look at!
The music in the background sounds like song of "Epic Sax Guy" playing

Thanks for that. Amazing footage! We have a science conference coming up next week here in Homer, Alaska and this is going to be a topic of discussion among the various government and private businesses present.
I'd think you might have a creature issue in AK. I'd be concerned about eagles snatching the drones right out of the sky.
+Curt Jackson “D.T. Pints” I have the same question
Thats the correct use of drones.
How are you able to get this footage? Last I checked it was illegal to do this. If you are able to do it without breaking the law then sign me up!! I want to do this as well!
This is unbelievable !
cool video. How do you know the dolphins aren't getting hit by the props on the boat?
Beautiful and Big Brother is watching. I only hope these beautiful beings are left alone to their lives and not hunted.

just curious is the drone a x4 scout
