SIR GERHARD survives early scare to make a victorious return at Gowran

- Dual Cheltenham Festival winner Sir Gerhard made a successful transition to the larger obstacles on his belated reappearance at Gowran Park.
Winner of the Champion Bumper in 2021 and the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle last term, the Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old’s seasonal return was delayed by a pre-Christmas injury.
Faced with just two rivals, Sir Gerhard was the 1-6 favourite for his comeback in the Daly Farrell Chartered Accountants Beginners Chase - and while he ultimately got the job done with ease, his first start over fences since his point-to-point days was not without the odd scare.

All I'm taking from that is he's now straight to the festival. Probably Turner's, likely second fiddle to appreciate it. If he were to place there it would be a good result from where he is now.
Edit: just seen he said Brown Advisory, that's a lot of fences

Talking of Irish racing, I see Liam Lennon's horse Great To Get Out recently died away from the track, having been well-beaten at big prices in all of his races.
Given that said trainer was fined last year for horse welfare issues, I have to ask if anyone knows if Great To Get Out died as a result of an injury or if he was yet another horse who was executed for being too slow?

Good performance, only half fit, nothing will get near him in Cheltenham when he’s fit. Serious engine.
He has no chance at Cheltenham jumping like that hopefully Willie can work his magic with him

Not very impressive in all honesty but I guess it’s his chasing debut and will only improve. Seen a lot better this season.

Novicey jumping at the first few but he got better and he should come on from this. Willie says he's going straight to Cheltenham but u would have liked to see him have a bit more experience over fences. He has the turn of foot if Willie sharpens his jumping up no doubt he will
He'll do well to improve his jumping when WM does not school them at home.

@@noelb4768 it was described as ‘ a set back and probably won’t run at Cheltenham’ that quote was in Dec so for the horse to come out today and look like a machine is absolutely unbelievable doing from Willie!

Can't see him getting away with that jumping in grade 1 races... I certainly won't be backing him at Cheltenham

Mullins backers well mr lewis will say a cert cert prob run better than that and still lose. And the fact blokes got prob 200 horses entered and peopke h8 that fsct people look after the property
Terrible jumping there for a 1/6... Won't be backing that with any confidence
