Passenger train service between Madurai and Theni resumed on 26 May 2022, 12 years after it was closed for guage conversion. The last train journey on this section was between Bodinaickanoor and Madurai on the metre gauge section on December 31, 2010.

Theni _ bodinayakkanur travel by track 18 km ... Every km make Goosebumps. ... All expectations will be complete in few months...

Thanks for capturing. I am from ANDIPATTI. It brought me the olden memories.i used to travel from this train when it was operated in meter gauge. That time it used to take 1hr 45. Even though it took long time i used to travel by train to enjoy the sceneries.
Now it takes only 1 hr from Madurai to Teni

Wonderful memories. I am a Madurai native,I have travelled this when it was hauled by a steam loco in 1987 I think! great memories. used to get down at Vadapalanji station across from MK University , Beyond Theni, the track disappeared in many places..with grass growing over it. has service started for Bodinayakanur already? . You can check this but I vaguely remember an unmanned level crossing near that Madakulam I think, where a PRC city bus ran into the loco and there were some fatalities..

Vaipila raja. Vaigai and pandian express are trademark and premium trains of madurai.no chance for extension for both trains.may be mahal (madurai-chennai egmore) weekly express may be extended till bodi (or)Theni
@@sudarsanaramjisovijaya733 on people demand they will extend for sure. I'm from Andhra Pradesh..I witnessed same kinda of of emotion. When meter guage trains were stopped and for running broad guage trains it took 15 yrs nearly. Now we have trains to Every where like Nagerkovil to Mumbai , Hyderabad to Madurai. The only thing is representatives from Theni should bring pressure on State govt. So MPs will give a memorandum to Railway Minister. Afterall it was just 100+ odd kms to Bodi from Theni.
@@fromkarunakar Bro.both vaigai and pandian express covers the madurai - Chennai Route in 7 - 7.5 hours and allows the people from madurai to travel chennai in a quick manner and have become as a premium train by maintaining the timing of the train in each station. So no chance of extension of vaigai and pandian express.due to this people of madurai won't allow the extension of this trains

I have a picture of this train from 1985 when it used to be called the Bodi Passenger on the Meter Gauge and hauled by a steam locomotive. The picture has faded after 40 years but I also digitized the photo some 20 years back and it is a shot of the steam locomotive through a short tunnel under a flyover on the Bypass road in Madurai. It was one of the regular trains that used to pass by in the evening and it was 2 km away from the Madurai station. It turned out to be one of the best pictures I’ve taken on a old Yashica camera with the train chugging along with the steam locomotive on the other side of the tunnel while I took it on the opposite side. Still have the digital version of it somewhere. Old Meter gauge steam locomotive hauling about 6 maroon colored Indian Railway coaches from the 1980s.

In 70 80s intermittent stops where there. Theni-Allinagaram stop and many more stops(no railway station)(ground level platforms only laid)where there adjusaent to railway crossings and colleges (Madurai University). Mobile ticket counter was available. Excellent profit to Railways. People and students were benefitted.
