This has been asked a lot so thought I would address it: you do NOT have to use others' layouts when planning your city or production lines. Personally, I prefer to design them myself. I added them to the video because many people are not aware of the extensive and helpful wiki! What's most important is that you enjoy playing the way YOU want to! Have fun!

also usefull when you're low on space the charcoal burner and lumberjacks can be build with overlapping working areas and stil get 100% efficiency
If you upgrade your streets the range of the buildings increases too.

One of the best tips.
The best tip I can give is build in sets of 80 houses and max out their gold output. Settle as many islands early on as possible so you can rush to buy shares on your opponent's islands. Pick the most expensive share first. Over time this will boost your economy so fast.

The Where house tip is a good one. If you find you're in the red early game check your maintenance costs and the likely culprit are the upgraded wherehouses at $50 a piece
They should have hired you to make a tutorial. The game barely explains anything even when you have the "Extra Information" option enabled for your campaign. I got a much better understanding of how Anno 1800 works now. Thanks!

While I agree, this is my first Anno and I worked all of this out. It is all in an oft-ignored part of the game called "text" though. As a software developer myself, I do know better than to put instructions in "text" since people have to rely on unreliable legacy wetware to "read" :P

Excellent Tips :)
One small note about Over-Producing to sell for gold: don't get too carried away with it. You still have to pay maintenance cost even if the NPCs are not buying all your excess goods. I find the costs of having excess industry is usually more than the income you make from the goods, so I just go by "make just a little more than you use" with the bonus gold from selling excess being just a nice way to balance your production.
The exception of course being constructing Ships and selling them to the Crown Rep npc. Surprisingly lucrative, without a cap as far as I've seen.
quick tips. don't over produce early game goods from farmers or workers to sell at your Wearhouse expect soap. with soap fill up a ship and sell it to the npc (can't remember name) with the prison island. he gives bonus money for soap. you can do the same with potatoes but the money isn't really worth it. later you can do the same with the artisan good fur coats which can be easy to over produce and be sold to the female npc island in the old world (not the pirate). Beer can also be sold later for a large profit to the pirates in both the old and new world once you get trade access with them. another tip is to find and settle any old world island that has potatoes, hops and wheat. these islands will have all you need to satisfy every need for both workers and farmer so you can cover the islands in massive worker cities that provide a decent profit and provide you with workforce and materials needed for the late game. for example: when you unlock engineers you'll get access to a type of pier that allows you to transfer workforce from one island to another so you don't have to keep adding farmer and worker houses to your main island.
Strong disagree on 6:30, don't overproduce anything! Basically all items cost more to produce than you can sell them for, so with your tip, you're actually just burning money.
A few items (such as steel beams) actually are cheaper to buy from others than to produce yourself - and you don't pollute your island by buying it from others.
Besides that, great video for beginners.
Tilmann Giese it's ridiculous how cheap goods are and how good the sell price is on ships. Just build ships and sell for game breaking money.

I was prepared to argue with you on this...thinking "my god, this can't be true! WHy would they design the game to have you producing goods at a loss?" but then I found this docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_ceIThYBpAQbd2VvJtm3MPZG9-aR1LVWXjHZeHTsv9s/edit#gid=1101430916 and now I know why I am lucky to have 1k/minute profit...it's because I overproduce and sell the excess at a loss. That and I have a full steel beam/weapons production, and a good amount of pig farms/soap production operating at a loss. Seems kind of arbitrary and stupid, but I suppose they wanted to simulate how countries import goods from other countries because it is cheaper.
I just recently bought it on the Ubisoft store, I got to say it's super amazing and thank you for these tips and tricks!:)
I decided to get it on epic store since I hate the ubisoft store. Now I hate both of them. Anno 1800 is great so far though, can't wait to play with my buddies once I can convince them to cough up the 60 euros to buy it :)

a good tip is buying staff for the trade union, i found a person that allowed you to skip the flour portion of making bread. So you simply turned gain into bread.

Quick question does using the layouts make the game less fun? My first anno game so I kinda want to use the layouts but seems like that's part of learning the game.
I feel they make the game less fun. I LOVE doing the layouts myself, just like I do my own setups in Factorio. (Some people aren't good at layouts, so that's why I mention that it exists.)
@@KatherineOfSky ok awesome. Like I said I wasn't sure if that was only way to play. I like learning and how to build better citys. I constantly restarted my city over because it just looked jumbled and blah, then I discovered the relocation tool. After that I stop listening to the tutorial and built more then one lumber yard but love you videos got a new sub.

Don't overbuild your factories: only build what you need. (Low level goods are not profitable to sell).
You are my first female gamer that I decided to subscribe on, not to offend anyone but I don’t see many female creators in gaming area do well on introducing games. you give information concisely and in a clear manner. i've built the warehouse directly NEXT to the the sawmill, but it persists "no warehouse in range" ....read the forums issues and the answers do not resolve my problem, like i said it's nothing to do with range, i've built the small warehouse directly next to the sawmill.....please someone must have something else the regular and obvious advice solves nothing, cheers

Just bought it for £10 less than RRP from a trusted third party retailer. Zero schitts given about the launch platform, it doesn't change the game.
Bought it from Ubisoft directly so I don't have to pick sides in a war that doesn't benefit me.

I needed this. I failed the campaign before I made it to the New World. RIP. Is there anyway in-game to get a more detailed breakdown of what is costing you money? More than just the totals for 'Maintenance Cost' or 'Ship Upkeep', etc.

Great Guide, though as far as I tested it in the open beta, upgrading a warehouse does actually add 2 loading ramps. It's still more efficient to build a second warehouse, but when space is an issue upgrading can be better.

Excellent video, thank you! I must admit, I'm very new to Anno 1800 and finding it difficult to produce a city that doesn't eventually go bankrupt. I noticed in your video you have many other islands visible ... when I start a new "Normal" game I have no other Islands visible and I can't figure out how to "explore" the Anno "cloud" which I assume is needed in order to sell products ... there is no "explore" button for my single ship so I'm assuming it doesn't matter what "sell" levels I set at my Trading Post because I'm not going to be trading with anyone. So how do I get to the point where I can explore the cloud Anno world?
You select your ship and right click it around the map to move and explore. If you want the map revealed on start, you can choose that in the options.

Had a really fun few hours on the game today (in between work calls). I came to a bit of a brick wall at Artisan happiness because my lands were not fertile for hops or peppers. I would really appreciate your insight into how to efficiently expand to other islands specifically to get stuff you cant access on your homeland. Because you need workers and artisans to run the beer and canned food sites I ended up having to build up a whole second city. Am I doing it wrong? Felt crazily over the top just to get what I was missing. I tried buying the missing goods by setting purchase orders at my port but nothing came in. It makes sense for trade to be the answer but I'm a bit of a "build it myself" person. Is there an efficient way to build small outpost cities?
Now I'm thinking about it I should have only had the farms on the second island and not the factories. Then shipped the raw produce back over. But id still like to know your take on outpost cities for running farms and mines.
Great video, but i prefer a more French Style for cities. History creates the shape of cities, no planning. It's not good for an optimized video game, but it's a more organical feel to cities

At roughly 75 hours in, I still look like a total noob. I've planned, Implemented and produced like crazy, standing on 7.5m gold but only 15k income per minute. Ive seen people on 500m and 150 to 500k per minute income.
Two questions. What kind of mouse are you using? How do you tell the game to show the influence radius (green lines for connectivity)? I am seeing nothing on my game. Thanks for every-bodies help.
I use 3 different mice at present. The influence lines appear when you select a building, (click on it), or when you are building a new building and hover it near a road.

One thing I hate about the game is you need influence to create ships and cannon defenses.. I have 15Milion gold, with 24k income, conquered 90% of the islands in the old world, 100% of the islands in the new world.. but I cant create anymore ships because my influence is at -200.. How do I farm more influence beside increasing population.??

This will sound like a stupid question, but how are bridges constructed? I'm at the Artisan stage and I can't find any option to build a bridge. 2/3rds of my main island is unusable because of 2 little creeks. Can anyone help?
You just drag a road across the water. THe cost is high, so make sure you have enough mats

@@generalrendar7290 Yes, materials. IIRC it costs quite a lot of wood. Hmmm, itäs been a while since I played, but it should be as easy as dragging across a river. Make sure youäre not running into a rock or something on the other side.

While I like the work put in to get the city layouts available, I prefer to
go the trial and error mode. The relocation feature will be huge for that.
Using "guides" just makes it to me a paint by numbers game. I'd rather decipher and learn the hard way.
Then maybe after I pull hair out I'll got the layout guide route :)

my city keeps going bankrupt after instilling engineers tier, even though i am major pork supplier to the biggest region. Mine maintenance keeps hitting up to 12K.

Not sure if someone will reply to my comment here but recently picked up Anoo 1800 on sale via Uplay and so far loving it but I think I maybe overbuilding my farmers a bit, is there a way to gauage how much farmers I need to create in order to balance my income and maintenance costs?
Playing on Advanced Difficulty (I'm not sure if this'll affect any of the things I said before if I was playing on Normal difficulty)
I assume you are speaking about the social class Farmers: you want to create a bit of surplus workforce for upgrading into the next level. Farmers are not big income generators, so you are going to want to add the next social class (Workers) ASAP. If you are speaking about actual farms... then you can use various calculators to calculate production chain needs. Here is one: suhrmann.github.io/Anno-1800-Calculator/#/demands. Overbuilding production will increase the running costs, (which is more punishing on Advanced Difficulty since the income is less).

But serious unplayable bugs... then again I have never played any of the other Anno games. So maybe that's a feature?
Bought it after a year thinking okay, this gives these rotten developers who constantly push out unfinished work, to get feedback and fix shit.
Nope. They fix lots of stuff, so says their updates. But then several other errors either their fixes caused them or something else in their unstable programming.. of which they take great pains to prevent modders from fixing for them.
Frustrated... yes... I a fucking am. Out 50ish bucks and a game that's bullshit already uninstalled and installed... with no avail.

Hey, new to anno, and i can't figure out the balance. It wont stay stable for me. Goes up and down so much i cant make money besides selling ships to the queen. Is there any tips on controlling your balance?
I haven't played this version yet, but thumb rule for all anno games is:
build as many facilities as you need to cover their needs not more(calculators are useful for that), build more houses, upgrade them, then build more facilities for their needs. it's a delicate balance. Simplest exaggerated example: if you have only 10 houses don't build ten fisheries. If you are not on minus in any product in the warehouse do not build a new facility for said product. First build the houses then see what needs you have to cover. always pay attention, and be patient, it takes time and you will be off balance a lot in the middle. Also do not build new facilities if the one you have is not 100% productivity, fill up that first then go to the next.
