This is the reason that the knowledgeable Shafi scholars like Imam Qadri and Imam Abu Muhammad say that if the Imam is reciting loudly, and someone recites behind him, that person would be denying the Qur’an, Sunnah and the opinion of all the companions. It's wajib to give the kutbah of jummah and it's also wajib to listen to it , suppose you are in a masjid which don't have microphone and there is a large gathering , and you didn't heard the kutbah of the imam . Should you yourself recite the khutbah again by yourself bcz you didn't heard the imam giving the khutbah ?? Wether you heard the imam give the khutba or you don't hear him , he giving the khutbah will suffice no matter what . Same is surah fatiha , wether you can hear imam reciting or not , imams recitation will be enough for you . Bcz RasulAllah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said not to recite behind imam .
I understood most of this. But my follow up question is, if I stand behind the imam, should I recite Surah Al Fatiha while he is reciting it, or only recite it after he says "Ameen"?
From what I understand, it is best to wait until he is done, then recite it on your own in the space where he would probably be reciting a portion of the Quran, as surah fatiha is mandatory and any surah after that is a sunnah not mandatory so you should prioritize the fard
@gustav_ostervall_92 no worries brother but i could also be mistaken as there are also hadith that state that simply listening and saying ameen would do the needful. Hafidhh Ibn Taymiyyah writes [that]:
To listen to the recitation of the Imam is mentioned in the Qur’an and the authentic Ahadith. The whole Ummah agrees on this. All the companions say that when the Imam recites Al-Fatiha or any other Surah it is fard to listen and to stay quiet. Imam Shah’s saying is also like this. This is the reason that the knowledgeable Shafi scholars like Imam Qadri and Imam Abu Muhammad say that if the Imam is reciting loudly, and someone recites behind him, that person would be denying the Qur’an, Sunnah and the opinion of all the companions.

Classed as hasan by al-Tirmidhi; classed as saheeh by al-Bayhaqi, al-Khattaabi and others. This is a clear statement that it is obligatory for the one who is praying behind an imam to recite al-Faatihah in a prayer in which recitation is done out loud.
Shaykh Ibn Baaz said: If the imam does not pause, the one who is praying behind him has to recite al-Faatihah even if that is when the imam is reciting (the other soorah), according to the more correct scholarly view.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He should recite al-Faatihah when the imam is still reciting, because the Sahaabah used to recite al-Faatihah with the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and he said: “Do not do that except with the Essence of the Book (al-Faatihah), because there is no prayer for the one who does not recite it.

That is to say, at the same time as the imam is reciting it or after he is finished?
From what I understand, it is best to wait until he is done, then recite it on your own in the space where he would probably be reciting a portion of the Quran, as surah fatiha is mandatory and any surah after that is a sunnah not mandatory so you should prioritize the fard
