- A month after Manali-Kaza road is officially closed for traffic by the state for the winter due to many dangerous ice patches on Kunzum La, we joined some local Spiti people driving home to Kaza in sub zero temperature and navigating through some really tricky ice crossings.

can you tell me about the tata Safari how did it performs trough the journey and did you face any menical problem.. asking just to know I will be driving a tata Safari to the Himalayas one day.
This is a local Safari that stays in Spiti only. Last year we did Spiti to Nagaland without any problems. So you can take your Spiti to the Himalayas without any worries.
I notice there are usually people out on the roads on foot doing general maintenance on the roads. Do they walk around all day clearing paths?
They are assigned tasks to keep the road functional, but as this road was officially closed a month back, there was no one on it. You have to be on your own. Thats why its better to drive with other local cars going to Spiti :D
I absolutely loved the video! Got plans to visit Chandratal and Kaza in December. Will the bus service from Manali to Kaza remain open then?

Thanks a lot :) The temperature in November goes down to minus 5C. the coldest I recorded on my device was -11C (with wind chill).
And I returned by the same route on 30 November. :D A short video of that will be out soon :D

Went through the same track a few years ago. Surprised to see only a few patches of ice only as against my thought of snow cladded track all the way!!
Manali - Spiti route is totally blocked when it snows because of Rohtang and Kunzum, so it'll be really interesting to record it while snowing. Hopefully in future. :D

Guys we are planning in 1st week of April, this Road will be open by then i suppose, i'll be dissapointed if it wont, any idea how I can check the road status. Also i'll be driving from delhi, do i need any permit to take my private car on this stretch like if I start from Manali via Rohtang pass.
+debasish chandra kunzum only opens in May end or Mid June. Yup you need a permit to cross Rohtang from Manali.
