    2:10 Fun Fact: Owls feathers get water logged, they can't fly in rain. That's the trade off for silent flight. That owl surely would've drowned if these people didn't help it.

      i used to do it for my elderly landlady, back in college, even though every time she threatened to kick my ass because 'i'm not so old i cant do it myself'.
      I miss that lady. she used to tell me about when she was younger, back when gangs were actual gangs and not ' a bunch of punk ass little wannabes, with their shorts down around their ankles'.
      Fun fact: Her street was an enforced neutral area, and no one fucked with MeMaw, and walked away without a limp. She was OLD SCHOOL Hood, and even at 87, could kick some serious ass.

      According to an article, it could have been a few different things that got it stuck on Prince Edward Island. An 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck the area the day before or it could have been hunting. Orca has quite a leap when going for pray.

    I'm surprised the owl was so passive, it must have been exhausted but still, it just laid on its back and didn't try to claw at anyone.

  • @jasonpatterson8091
    @jasonpatterson8091 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    If you're ever in a position to help a bird of prey with entangled feet, by all means do help, but cover their heads with a towel, shirt, etc so that they can't see you. She is beyond lucky that that owl didn't grab her hand with its foot. Their talons are needle sharp and will easily go through your hand, and they are utterly filthy, so you're going to get an infection afterward. Personal experience with a red tailed hawk and three fingers that didn't work properly but hurt constantly for over a year.

    • @Queenofthegingers
      @Queenofthegingers 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That young lady actually works with birds and other animals! They held onto the owl and rehabilitated it.

    • @vmm5163
      @vmm5163 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. There was an ornithologist who climbed up to photograph an owl's nest and the owl attacked his face with its claws and he lost an eye. Ouch, for your fingers! 😖

    • @jasonpatterson8091
      @jasonpatterson8091 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Queenofthegingers It doesn't matter if they work with birds often or not. I'm a falconer; I work with hawks routinely - that doesn't make me immune to puncture wounds. Further, if she works with raptors often, it didn't show in how she handled that bird.

    • @jasonpatterson8091
      @jasonpatterson8091 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@vmm5163 It was my fault. I had the bird's head covered and wasn't paying attention to make sure it stayed covered as I untangled fishing line from its foot. It grabbed my first three fingers on my right hand and I heard the talons hit bone. Luckily it let go immediately rather than really clamping down. There were just three black dots and barely any blood. Unfortunately their feet are a lot like a cat's mouth, covered in bacteria that can and will infect anything they get a grip on even briefly. So even with preventative care I wound up with infected fingers. It was a rough day and quite painful several months after. My right pointer finger is still stiff three years later.
      Nothing compared to the guy who runs Enoch Wildlife Rescue (they specialize in raptor rescue). He was footed by a bald eagle - its talons went all the way through his hand, which he nearly lost to infection. I can't imagine losing my eyes to one (though it's not wildly uncommon for falconer's birds to go for the face).

    6:45 Orcas are the assholes of the whale world. Does that mean they're not worth saving, and the one in this video should have been left to die? *Hell no.* Asshole or not, it deserves to live. Besides, it can't help what it's evolved into.
    Edit: 7:45 50,000€ each? Come on now...they deserved more and you know it! Also I couldn't help but laugh at the other cat in the background being spooked by the moment of the catch 🤣
    Edit 2: 10:08 That raccoon _instantly_ knew what the 2x4 was for and honestly probably just would've given the cameraman a hug 😁

  • @zyourzgrandzmaz
    @zyourzgrandzmaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    6:45 so people think whales need water on them if there beached, thats not accurate. what is the biggest danger of a beached whale is it suffocating and breaking its own body from the weight of itself on land. they need support. so like stuff a bunch of clothes or sand or something maliable on either side of it so its weight is distributed.

    • @ESwift-Arts
      @ESwift-Arts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      High tide must come up over those rocks, that’s why there’s seaweed growing on them. Then the orca got stuck on the rocks as the tide went out and it got too shallow for it to swim away.
