Hobi is the Rythem - hes got the beats, the unique flows and intonations.
RM is the poet - hes got the metaphors and the technical skill.
Suga is pure passion- he FEELS and TELLS. He isnt going to wrap his message up in a metaphor. You dont dig for the meaning. He punches you in the throat with it and then hands you some warm tea and a hug.

i think people were telling you you weren't ready cause namjoon's lyrics got you on your thoughts and feelings a little bit (or that's what i got from your reactions) but namjoon's stuff is "sugar coated" in a way, cause it's so poetic. yoongi on the other hand just writes things as they are, his storytelling is raw and direct and the fact that it's so relatable too just hits hard somewhere different from where joon's lyrics hit, you feel me?

Agust D is angry. He's the one who expressed anger, hurt, and struggles. now that D-Day promotions are starting, yoongi's been talking about his past projects too and he said that Agust D, as well as D2, are full of anger. And it's so beautiful to see how with himself, his music (i think starting from D-2?) also becomes lighter and calm and genuine. And he even said that he's happy and mentally stable now 🥺

So Far Away is one of my favorite songs ever. I want to add that that line you loved, the chorus where he repeats "may your end be prosperous" etc? He deliberately uses an extremely formal style of Korean that is not used in everyday conversation, but rather used by monks in Buddhist monasteries, etc. Basically, the chorus sounds religious, like he's praying for you and me and all of us. It gives me chills
Suga said a lot of this mixtape was made when he was in highschool, he's definitely grown and changed so much from that time, but it's a body of work that stands the test of time
Fun fact! Halsey discovered BTS through this mixtape! She loved the lyrics and fell in love, became a fan of BTS's work. They met the next year (2017) at the BBMAs, where Halsey was one of the few people who didn't treat them like exotic puppets....Halsey and BTS now call each other friends. Suga and Halsey in particular are really good friends it seems, he went to see her firstborn baby, he even teased her for not responding to his text messages on an interview two days ago.

6:10 not sure if anyone mentioned this but the crushed shoulder thing,, yoongi was in a car accident in 2012 where he got hit by a car as he was on his delivery shift. He ended up debuting with an injured shoulder and ended up enduring lots of pain and complications. But he got surgery to fix it in late 2020 (i think it was around November if my memory is not tripping), so if you see tannies carrying around a photo cut out of yoongi or anything else to represent him (like a snowman in one of the award shows) it was because he was recuperating from that surgery!

Just randomly stumbled into this mixtape in 2017while hiding out and sobbing on the bathroom floor of my college. Was trying to make it through life with 20 years of undiagnosed adhd, severe social anxiety, and depression and it was not going well. Life was upside down and I had no hope but when Yoongi said "The time when I tried to sleep on a bathroom floor is now a memory to me uh it became a memory" I literally wasn't alone on the bathroom floor anymore. For the first time in my life felt like I wasn't alone and that I could overcome this. Wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for Yoongi being vulnerable and open the way he is. This mixtape is what made me find and fall in love with BTS, and it'll always have a special place in my heart.

This mixtape is one of the (many) reasons I admire Yoongi SO MUCH. This mixtape was full of anger and fire at the people who tried to tear him down, but at the same time... it's full of vulnerability and grace. That all of these sides of him are on *one* album is just... mind-blowing.
He talks about things like social anxiety and depression that NO ONE spoke of in those days, and he straight-out tells ARMY that if talking about his pain helps even one person get through their own struggles, it was all worth it.
The hip-hop underground crowd dared to question his manhood for wearing makeup on stage, which is total BS. This? THIS is being a man. THIS is what real courage and strength look like. THIS is standing up for yourself and your loved ones.

I don't think anyone can fully grasp the magnitude of Yoongi releasing his very first mixtape during one of the most turbulent and painful years of BTS history (2015- 2016). Yoongi has been going through so much since his teenage years. I don't even know the kind of courage it takes to show people one's pain. He does not mince words and is not ambiguous with his lyrics. The imagery from his words cuts like a knife. I find myself flinching, holding my breath and silently tears fall every time I listen to his 2 mixtapes. I am just thankful that he found the strength and determination to live and realize his dreams are equally important; that he is not a 'monster' because he has big dreams and that even though he felt that his family and friends were drifting farther away that he is loved and worthy of love. I truly hope that he now knows who the people are who genuinely loves/ cares about him, supports him, has his back in difficult times. In his recent interview with IU, he said he has let go of the anger and negativity and is now at peace. We might see it in his new album. I am very glad. Yoongi deserves so much love, happiness and peace.

He spoke on very personal things I endured and i got 1000% where he was coming from
And beyond his rap, his productions too just blew me away
To understand why he was also so angry you should slowly start the Rise Of Bangtan, BTS coming from a small broke label got so much discrimination and hate, their attitude and perseverance is otherworldly and deeply inspiring! Rags to riches is an understatement compared to where they started from and where they at now! No matter how successful they are today they know the hustle, like Yoongi said in 723148 when he got scouted by Big Hit he was training to debut, while being at school and having a part time delivery job where he crushed his shoulder in an accident! That's part of their story and why they remain extremely grounded in reality, Namjoon touched a bit on this too if you remember in his Suchwita episode

The beep was him telling is therapist he tried to commit s*****. His albums are like a personal diary, no sugar coating, no hard metaphor just him taking obout life which makes him soo relatable in a sense.
The last is one of those songs I think takes huge guts to make public and him doing it makes me seriously appreciative towards him and his music.

Also So Far Away is gotta be one of my all time favs. When I was going thru a really tough time at 17 trying to figure out what to do in life that song helped me. Unlike my peers who all had plans for the future, I didn't have a dream, I didn't know what to do...Yoongi's words in that song comforted me so much dude. That song understood me like no one could, it was everything I was feeling that moment. Not only did it provide validation but also comfort.

Min Yoongi, genius. The poetry is in the pain. He’s always going to give it to you straight. He’s unafraid of showing his struggles with depression and darkness. Also, the king of beats! Some of my fave BTS songs were written by him. He does a lot of outside producing work, too, using Prod Suga. Side note: JK and Jin sang the guide for so far away which was also beautiful.

When listening to The Last, I always stop to listen, and it's heavy, real heavy. The lyrics behind it and everything he went through before all the fame, you really can feel the pain when he raps to the point that it feels like he's crying. I am so glad and beyond happy that Yoongi's now past all that, and he's healing. 🥹

I can't remember where I got this from...I think yoongi said he hated The Last for a long time but now he's ok with it. even if he still has his down moments (we don't know but fairly speaking everyone does) he has healed a lot judging by his recent interviews
Suga was asked what he feels about creating music that is so honest and raw about his pains and sufferings. Suga's answer: "it wasn't that difficult. Because we work on music a lot, we have many songs out there. So when we work on our individual projects, we always think about what to talk about. Now that we look back at those experiences, we feel thankful, because they enable us to tell various stories. And the things that used to be painful to recall. are not anymore, because releasing music also helps alleviate that emotion. For me it has been helpful. Many people are living with their traumatic memories, but i'm sure the moment will come when they overcome that. And i also think you need to go through the process where you organize these emotions. And for me, one of that process is releasing music"
there's also this piece from another interview:
“I think I’m happier now,” he confides. “I’ve realized that happiness doesn’t require much, and it can be quite simple. I used to think material things would give me happiness, and I worked hard to achieve them. But when I succeeded, I wasn’t so sure anymore. I don’t have many earthly desires anyway,” he says with a laugh. “Perhaps it’s because I now know that material things no longer give me great satisfaction. So now, I try to find happiness in simple things, such as getting up early in the morning and having decaf coffee. I’m glad I’ve finally got to experience this kind of joy. What I lost would be being ordinary. Your ordinary is my extraordinary, right? But I think time will solve this issue.”
The Last is from his first mixtape. You can see that he has changed a lot since then by this quote of him:
“My first mixtape was all about anger, but then everything was sorted out, right?” SUGA explains with a laugh. “I realized that I didn’t know who to be angry with anymore. Finally, I was able to look at myself. I’d been making a weapon out of anger and a sense of inferiority, but around 2018, my self-destructive rage slowly started to subside. I realized that I couldn’t channel creative energy through only those sorts of emotions any longer.”
and now a recommendation for future yoongi's music reaction is his song People from second mixtape
“‘People’ is my favorite song as well,” SUGA says. “Because it’s a record of four years of my life. I set aside most songs after they’re done, but I find myself relistening to ‘People’ all the time, and I experience different emotions each time I hear it. It’s a song I put on mostly when I’m feeling lonely and sentimental.”
Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16. Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper, He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 in 2010, but was convinced to become a part of a new group (he was told he wouldn't have to dance!! LOL) as a rapper alongside members J-Hope and RM before making his debut as a member of BTS in 2013. In the initial years of his career in BTS, both he and his fellow group member RM faced criticism from the South Korean underground hip hop scene for "selling out" and becoming K-pop idols.
Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce and compose music. In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking. He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising.
Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D".

Hes an amazing human being who has been through the shits, and came out with wisdom. Hes not IQ148 Namjoon, but he has an understanding about how the world works and the people in it. That's why he and Namjoon work SO WELL off of eachother. Namjoon is always asking questions and trying to figure out the world. Yoongi instinctually understands a lot of it.

I just hope you will deep dive into lyrics like Numjoon for suga. Cause The song "The last" is very personal to him. It literally say about his dippression and thoughts he had about you know -Su*cide and now how he came over that, also his shoulder injury which he had because of accident when he had part-time job delivery back in trainee days, and still went on without treating it until 2020... So every single lyric hold deep story behind it for Suga. you can see mostly all anger he had in Agust D & D-2 albums. He talked about it on recent interview with Disney. But for D-Day he will show different side of him.

Context behind why Yoongi rapped these lyrics during Agust D mixtape:
BTS were denied as an idol by people who loved idols
BTS were rebuked as an idol by people who loved musicians
BTS were dragged for things they hadn't done --- to the point they always wondered why do so many people hate them (especially in 2016)
Yoongi (along with RM) was looked down upon and accused by other underground K-hip hop rappers who accused them of 'not being hip hop enough or selling out or not conforming to toxic masculinity standards'
On a personal level, Yoongi was told he wouldn't make it by pursuing music by people around him (thankfully his elder brother believed in him), and he did struggle alot to get to where he is. He also struggled with social anxiety, depression and other issues (injured his shoulder from doing deliveries as part time job...an ache n pain he put up with for years until he recently went for surgery to fix) -- somehow he always struggled with personal relationships too.
ironically bcuz BTS is different, walked the unchartered path, is both idol + musician & defined a unique category of their own is precisely why they attracted so many fans worldwide -- BTS' music from the start was heavily influenced by hip hop and other genres too -- and their lyrics were about substance that no other groups (pop / even other genres) talked about.
From the start, BTS had to survive in a 'do or die' mindset so their level of performance was NEXT LEVEL, which threatened many other groups. Hence they received a lot of hate and prejudice from fandoms of other groups.
Yoongi talks about this in his latest short interview here, a MUST-WATCH in ur reaction: th-cam.com/video/BQMtAKV2tAY/w-d-xo.html

Ayy great start! Excited to go down this road with you. No matter how many times I hear The Last and So far away, still hits me as strong as the first time but now with even more appreciation! This album, much like RM's first mixtape, is a chaotic mix, rough around the edges but with an unfiltered unique core that shines through. Agust D is sorrow, anxiety, anger, resentment and just pure inner turmoil channeled into the music. No rose-tinted lenses, no sugarcoating, just straight up in your face. His raw, unadulterated passion just speaks to your soul!
Jhope's flow is immaculate, top tier and Joon's cadence with his poetry and metaphors is powerful and beautiful but Suga's vulnerability and raw emotional lyricism just speaks to me differently.
The way he started out this album, flexing his skills and status while dissing all those who said he'd never succeed (unleashing the pent up frustration within), then going down a memory lane explaining how he got to said status (the struggles that justifies the verbal thrashing he gave out earlier), then ruminating on how said success is slowly poisoning him and making him lose himself (being completely vulnerable and open about even the unpleasant bits of himself) and then ending it on the most emotional of tracks urging you to keep going just as he has. Its..just really amazing.
May your trials end in full bloom as well Jonathan!

As most ARMY know Suga has suffered for many years with depression, anxiety and compulsion. After his panic attack had canceled the concert in Kobe, that he was refering to in his song The Last, Suga went back to the venue when it was empty to reflect, he then had a short break , and wrote a long letter for ARMY (translation below) ...
Hello, this is Suga. Many people were curious as to what I was doing on my break, and to simply put it, I walked a lot, slept a lot and thought a lot. I wanted to go on a trip to organize my thoughts before working on my mixtape. I also had a place I must go to. I wanted to do things I was able to do not as a 22-year old BTS’ Suga, but as a 22-year old Min Yoongi. It was a time where I looked back at myself. The things I will say now are things I wanted to share not as a singer to a fan or as BTS to ARMY, but to talk to you as human to human.
I've always wanted to be a cool person to a lot of people. Having rational thoughts and making rational decisions in any situations. I wanted to live like my father. My father said to take a look around you when there's something to be happy about. Be calm and make rational decisions when happy. The first day when "I need u" got 1st place, I took a look at my surroundings. Every minute I'm happy, I acted as if I'm not. When I'm sad I acted as if I'm not. Even if I like it, I acted as if I don't like it. I pretended to be cold-hearted and pretended to be strong. If a joy is shared, it will be doubled but if a sadness is shared, it won't get smaller. That's what I thought. I know I'm a person who's bad at expressing my emotions but I've been living that way and I thought it's right.
One day, I can't exactly remember when, I was in a car with my father and he said "Yoongi, don't live like me". The first day of vacation. The first day ever since I was born, I drank with my family. It has been 6 years since I left home. We were all just chatting, listening to stories that we haven't heard of. The strong and cool father that I know, knows how to feel hurt and sad, how to feel happy and love..
1.5-pyeong in the practice room, my studio is my wide meadows and narrow prison. I can do anything and at the same time, I can't really do anything. I can work on music thoughtlessly for 20 hours, but I can also sit there and not do anything but just thinking for 20 hours. I was 11 years old when I first started writing my own lyrics. When I listen to good music, I will feel really excited and I feel really happy more than anything.
To me, music is my hope and my happiness, I also want to be someone's hope and happiness. Actually I'm someone who would just walk away rather to crash and feel pain. Anyone hates being hurt and I don't want to get hurt. In "Nevermind", "If you feel like you a going to crash then accelerate more". Perharps, that's actually what I wanted to say to myself. The most upsetting time for me when I face a large number of people, is when I face myself who isn’t able to be fair to everyone. I didn’t want to hurt anyone, but there are times I couldn’t do that. I think I’m still a person that lacks in many things.
The second day of the concert in Kobe... I don’t think I’ve ever slept deeply after that day. Could it be because of the fact that I gave a wound to many people? Whenever I fell asleep, I would wake up with cold sweat. Because I already once have not been able to go on stage before and have hurt many people, I said that I’ll go up (to perform) no matter what situation arises. Everyone tried to stop me. I really cried a ton at the situation of not being able to go up on stage. And I know crying is losing. It’s really easy for me to cope with my own sorrow, but witnessing those who love me in sadness is very hard. I made them sad, once again. If I could go back to that day, I would go on stage no matter what. So there was just one place to go.
I went to Kobe during my break. Many people tried to stop me from going, but I didn’t want to be ashamed of myself any longer. So I just went to Kobe without planning. It was my second time visiting the concert venue after a concert. The first was Ax Hall at late night after finishing the first Red Bullet concert. The second time was the Kobe World Memorial Hall, at where I failed to perform. I hate becoming a numb person. I didn’t want to take the love and these glorious days for granted. I didn’t want to be a numb person. That’s why I visited the venues again on my own.
(T/N: He’s saying he doesn’t want to take all the love he’s receiving as granted, he really wants to appreciate every single love he gets. He’s meaning numb in the way by how he wouldn’t be able to feel what the fans feel about him. He’s basically saying he wants to appreciate every love he gets from his fans)
I liked being on stage, and I still do. When I was 15 and performed in front of 2 people I stood proudly and made eye contact with them during my performance. However after my debut I feel that I have not been righteous towards myself. I think it may be because I knew better than anyone that I wasn’t perfect. And then on the day of the first performance of HYYH on stage I made proud eye contact with the audience that I didn’t do in quite a while. But after the second day of the Kobe concert when I was unable to stand on stage, I didn’t have the courage to confidently confront the large number of people. So that’s why I visited Kobe, the concert hall again.
I kept wandering around the area by the concert hall from the time I arrived there until the time our performance was due to begin that day. From the ticketing booth to the entrance and the concert hall - I wanted to feel the same emotions as you all from every nook and corner. I felt many emotions. Happiness, the excited nervousness felt while waiting for the performance, sadness, resentment, anger, regret, etc. I wanted to understand you all, and I do understand. So I’m sorry and apologetic, for I am not a perfect human being. I’m a person who is weak but acts strong.
Once again I realized that I was a person who’s lacking. Although I’m not religious, I prayed at that place. After all, at the end, it was a fated day. Even if it’s ended, let’s not let this heart become numb. To me, who wanted to spend every moment alone, you all were taking up quite a large part (of my mind). Age and gender, nationality and religion, what language you use - all of that isn’t important. "Whether you're young or old, whether you have a hidden child, It doesn't matter", haven't I said this already. That day, we unexpectedly had a Music Bank broadcast and I boarded a plane and returned a day before planned. I returned after organizing my many thoughts.
Once again, while feeling that I’m a blessed person, I felt that I need to be a person who lives every moment feeling thankful. This is the moment I realizied the fact that 22-year old Min Yoongi, who hates being an adult, is standing in front of the threshold to being an adult. Thank you for making me a blessed person, ARMY. Although I’m never able to say this because I’m bad at expressing myself. Here I am conveying my feelings and thoughts once more through a piece of less-than-satisfactory writing. I will live while being thankful of every moment as I am such a lacking human being.
    I love you, ARMY.

lol sorry for so many comments lol...If interested here is a list of songs Suga has produced outsides of his mixtapes or featured on:
-Wine by Suran (produced by Suga) (he got he first producing award)
-Eight by IU (ft. and produced by Suga)
    -Tomorrow by BTS
    -Autumn Leaves by BTS
-Stay Alive by Jungkook (produced by Suga)
-Song Request by LeeSoRa ft. Suga
-Eternal Sunshine by Epik High (produced by Suga) (p.s. Tablo is in Epik High the same guy on All Day off of Indigo)
    -Boyz with Fun by BTS
    -Jump by BTS
    -First Love by Suga
-My Universe by Coldplay and BTS remix (Coldplay asked him to do a remix and it is so good and, in my opinion, underrated)
    -Seesaw by Suga
-Suga's Interlude by Halsey (ft. and produced by Suga)
-That That by PSY (ft. and produced by Suga) (I recommend live performance where he surprises the crowd by showing up)
-You by OMI (produced by Suga)
-Outro: Her by BTS (underrated song in my opinion)
-Intro: The Most Beautiful Moment in Life by Suga

Yoongi spits facts. While Joonie talks poetry and Hobi raps playfully, Yoongi drives a knife into your chest with his words.

i'm sure you've been told already but just in case, there's an alternate version of So Far Away that came out i think around a year after the original that has Jin and JK on it instead of Suran and the beat is changed to be kinda combined with the beat of First Love, Yoongi's solo from Wings (so listen to that first)

Three producers to look for in BTS' music: Pdogg, Suga and El Captxin. Honorable mentions go to Docskim and Slow Rabbit. Idk why i'm saying this, i just felt like it lmao
