  • Hi FLUTISTS & FLUTE STUDENTS 🎵 🌺 Applying Marcel Moyse Art of Sonority Exercise 1. I put together a short flute lesson on sound & applying this exercise. From the French Flute School P.O.V, I also discuss why it’s important to practice sound. This exercise-applied properly-is solid gold (helps you to know where every note ‘lives’) and it’s been an important stepping stone for ALL of my flute students, many of whom have gone on to great professional careers. Hang in there fellow flautists, in this time of isolation. We musicians are SO lucky to have our instruments as our focus /our friends. Take advantage of any spare time to practice - it will bring you much joy 😃 more flute lessons on the way!
(BTW at the end of the clip a few bars of a Chopin Nocturne which you can hear in full on the links below)

Something that you said at the beginning really touched me. You said: your tone should be a reflection of your spirit. That is how I always have seen it. I believe that sometimes when I play the flute I hear the voice of god singing. ❤

cette leçon est essentielle pour tout flûtiste désireux de travailler la bonne musicalité. Avec Jane qui est une merveilleuse artiste et a travaillé avec les plus grands.

It's nice to see someone play a flute without a low b foot. I feel like it throws all the tonality out of whack

Hi Julie, yes I prefer a C foot joint- as did Jean-Pierre Rampal… I do have a b joint if I ever need it, which is not often :-) thanks for the comment!

@@JaneRutterFlute Actually, I was poking gentle fun about your comment that the pandemic upheaval in our lives would last "hopefully a short while". Posted a year and a half ago. Little did we imagine . . . ;)
