I legit clicked on this just to see if you cried at the palm too. The entire second half of this movie is just ANXIETY and pure longing. I love this movie more than I can put into words. It is a completely work of art.
Weathering with you is the next movie that happens in the same universe. It’s not a sequel btw but characters from the last movie will almost always appear for a min in the next. There were also characters from the last movie that appeared in Your Name like mitsuha‘s teacher.
When you started crying already at their meeting during the twilight moment, I wondered how you’d react to the scene where Mitsuha opened up her clenched fist to read Taki’s name… and you didn’t disappoint. That was one the hardest hitting scenes.
I don’t care who you are, when Mitsuha opens her hand hoping to see Taki’s name and instead sees “I love you”, you cry. These are just the rules of the world. That mind may forget, but the heart will always remember❤️
The director of this film's name is Makoto Shinkai. All of his films are as good as this. They're good because unlike fighting anime they don't have power-ups or anything like that to rely on it's just good stories and interesting characters & drop dead gorgeous animation. I'm right there with you bleach is my favorite anime. I used to watch Dragon Ball z Gundam wing. I watch Black clover, demon Slayer etc etc. But this movie is what got me into what I like to call a "sad boy anime". So I'm going to suggest anything by this director, and if you ever want a small series like this I'm going to suggest "you're lie in April". And yes it is going to hit you right in the chest. You're not going to be okay but you're going to be better for the journey. A silent voice isn't by this director but it's every bit as good as well.

The lead backround artist was a former up and coming artists with ghibli and worked on princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and lead on Howls Moving Castle, but left shortly after over a disagreement in the company. He was lead on a show called Made In Abyss before joining this team where he has stayed to my knowledge. Couple of other great films are A Silent Voice, which is another emotional gut punch of a movie lead by a great female director of Kyoto animations. Also Perfect Blue by late Satishi Kon, which is a mystery thriller that went on to inspire a academy win for best film of the year and I would put on par with the best of Alfred Hickcocks greatest thrillers as well.
It's funny in how much of a bubble I can be sometimes, so I just expect people to know these things, but this is actually one of the all time most successful anime films, second only to Spirited Away. It made blockbuster numbers at the box office world wide and catapulted director Makoto Shinkai to stardom. He's known for his heart wrenching and poetic romances. So if you liked this, I'm sure you'd enjoy some of his other work as well.

Still my top 1 anime movie ❤ There was no movie that I watched that can match this movie's emotion rollercoaster-ness. I can't even identify nor focus my feelings the first time I watched this. This movie is truly a masterpiece and I believe it will be timeless (unless the plot gets copied ofcourse) The "I love you" in the palm scene was truly the emotion bomb in this movie. A comment I saw said that "we may forget each other's name, but the feelings we felt will stay". Another also said if Taki wrote his name on Mitsuha's palm, it could've faded (just like how their memos started deleting themselves on Taki's phone) and the reason why the "I love you" didn't fade was because all messages about love is protected by a deity. I will never forget this movie! I will always remember: "Your Name" or "Kimi no Na wa"
This anime is very close to a masterpiece... I think there were like 10 minutes missing of showing more of them falling in love. A little surprised they even dubbed the songs.
The Songs were Dub when the movie Released. The Band wanted to dub them to try and make sure both audience could get what they were trying ot say. This was their first attempt at dubing their own work so songs don't flow as well as they could have however in their Second attempt in "Weather with you" They took the dubbing into account and wrote lyrics that flow both well in english and in JP
It's cool that they did an English version of the "Sparkle" song for this movie! Deffo worth a listen to the Japanese though too. I love it, I listen to it all the time!
