Roberto baggio is one of the few players and forwards ever that never tried to go down easily to try and win a penalty or deliberatly go down in a cheap way and would try hard at all cost to avoid the challenge. If he does ever go down then it is most likely a red card challenge by the other player in which he had no chance of avoiding. U cant say that about most players nowadays. Such a class act he is. A player like him can never be replaced.

Da giovanissimo era un giocatore diverso,correva,driblava,entrava in porta con la palla saltando anche il portiere. l'infortunio lo ha cambiato,a volte il fisico non riusciva a fare più quello che il suo genio gli chiedeva di fare, ma anche questo fa parte dell'incredibile film di Baggio. I 3 mondiali di Baggio sono da poesia, da Oscar, un sogno ad occhi aperti, sopratutto nel 94. La sua voglia di nazionale era magia, i mondiali del 2002 negati, anche se dopo l'ennesimo infortunio aveva recuperato e trascinato a suon di magie il Brescia alla salvezza è poesia. Grazie tante per aver riportato alla luce giocate di questo fenomeno che avevo dimenticato. Classe pura, sapeva trattare con eleganza il pallone ed ogni suo goal era un'opera d'arte. Dribblava tutti e metteva giù anche il portiere (era il suo numero più pregiato) cose che oggi si vedono raramente . Nonostante un infortunio gravissimo subito da giovane (a 18 anni mi pare)che gli ha pesantemente condizionato la carriera è riuscito con la maglia azzurra a fare sognare diverse generazioni di italiani. Nei mondiali USA94 si è caricato la nazionale sulle spalle e da solo l'ha trascinata in finale contro il Brasile perdendo solamente ai rigori. Gli unici che hanno fatto un'impresa del genere sono stati solo Maradona nel 86 e Messi nell' ultima edizione in Qatar. A prescindere dalla fede calcistica in Italia lo amano tutti, venerato come una divinità..Io che ho avuto la fortuna di godermi le sue giocate mi sento un privilegiato. Anche fuori dal campo era una persona davvero speciale, sempre molto umile e rispettoso verso chiunque..a livello internazionale una vera icona del calcio anni 90. My footballing hero as a little kid - I'm scottish-italian and I lived for watching La Nazionale at my grandparents house ( they had all the italian channels via satellite tv) - but that moment against Czechoslovakia at Italia 90 - with every dribble, as he got closer to goal, I was already getting to my feet cause I knew what was coming - I knew he would score and he did - I jumped and screamed for joy - a classic Baggio goal - he made you love football and he always delivered or saved us - USA 94 was just as good despite the final - his equaliser against Nigeria and the winner versus Spain - I can remember where I was or how I celebrated - childhood moments I'll never forget. Nobody has deserved a World Cup more.

Did the guy ever score a normal goal?? What an outstanding exhibition of sublime control, dribbling, awareness, feints, precision finishing..... It's a great sin that he only played 56 times for his country (many of which were sub appearances), and when he did, played under some very cautious coaches who seemed to do their utmost to spite him and curb his talent. Had he played 100 games and truly been let out of his shackles, he would have been way out in front as Italy's all time top scorer. I always think about what he would have done in today's much more open game, without his knee crippling him, on today's pitches, against today's defenders, with all the training, medical, dietary advancements, and playing under the likes of a Guardiola or a Klopp? It's a scary thought.
Dan Giambrone I think it was Ancelotti who said he was crazy not to take Baggio when he coached Parma...I think Baggio was ahead if his time but these Italian managers were set in their ways...they didn't know how to use him...and I agree with you, he was made for this generations football style
You're right, Ancelotti regretted not taking Baggio to Parma, though I'm certain that Cesare Maldini said something similar in that he should have made more of Baggio when he was in charge of Italy. At the time, Del Piero was his first choice number 10, even though ADP frequently disappointed for Italy.

The season following Baggio's retirement, Brescia got relegated. I remember Arsene Wenger saying that Baggio, at the age of 37, was the best player in Serie A.
The USA 94 was the first world cup I watched properly, Baggio was class, dragged them to the final, just couldn't take the final step against a spirited Brazil. I always felt Baggio was tortured by his missed penalty in the World cup, but he never shied away from the national team. This compilation by the way is superb, just shows how good Baggio was over a long period of time, he was no flash in the pan. Got to be up there with the best strikers ever to have lived. The montage shows he was versatile too, he could poach, but could also shoot from range and from dead-ball situations. Probably the only man to make the pony-tale a credible hairstyle option (sorry David Seaman)!!!! Absolutely magnificent.

Romario and Roberto Baggio are to this day my favorite players. In 1994 i was lucky to see them both compete in that final of the World Cup and they and their teams were so good at the time, that they cancelled each other out. Both had a couple of big chances to score and at the end, with one eye i was smiling for Romario and with the other i was crying for Baggio. They both deserved that World Cup and they both deserved the Ballon D'Or that year. Italy has never produced a bigger talent that Baggio before him or after him, in my opinion. He was totally atypical for an italian player. Too bad that his knees did not help him and the likes of Lippi, Cappello, Ancelotti or Sacchi, never understood him as a player or his immense potential.

Simply the best, the most intelligent football player, both as forward and midfielder. It´s not how many goals he scoared, but the quality and importance. Neither Messi nor Ronaldo are at his level, they can score One thousand goals each, and won´t be at his level. Thanks for this marvelous video.

Did the guy ever score a normal goal?? What an outstanding exhibition of sublime control, dribbling, awareness, feints, precision finishing..... It's a great sin that he only played 56 times for his country (many of which were sub appearances), and when he did, played under some very cautious coaches who seemed to do their utmost to spite him and curb his talent. Had he played 100 games and truly been let out of his shackles, he would have been way out in front as Italy's all time top scorer.
I always think about what he would have done in today's much more open game, without his knee crippling him, on today's pitches, against today's defenders, with all the training, medical, dietary advancements, and playing under the likes of a Guardiola or a Klopp? It's a scary thought.
Dan Giambrone I think it was Ancelotti who said he was crazy not to take Baggio when he coached Parma...I think Baggio was ahead if his time but these Italian managers were set in their ways...they didn't know how to use him...and I agree with you, he was made for this generations football style
You're right, Ancelotti regretted not taking Baggio to Parma, though I'm certain that Cesare Maldini said something similar in that he should have made more of Baggio when he was in charge of Italy. At the time, Del Piero was his first choice number 10, even though ADP frequently disappointed for Italy.

Patinho, despite his ongoing injury problems, he was incredible at Brescia, scoring/assisting many goals; contributing to the teams entertaining style of play; and getting them into European football for the first time. It was a disgrace that Trap didn't call Baggio up for the 2002 World Cup. Baggio was in great form and recovered in record time from an ACL to be fit for that tournament. The season following Baggio's retirement, Brescia got relegated. I remember Arsene Wenger saying that Baggio, at the age of 37, was the best player in Serie A.
The USA 94 was the first world cup I watched properly, Baggio was class, dragged them to the final, just couldn't take the final step against a spirited Brazil. I always felt Baggio was tortured by his missed penalty in the World cup, but he never shied away from the national team. This compilation by the way is superb, just shows how good Baggio was over a long period of time, he was no flash in the pan. Got to be up there with the best strikers ever to have lived. The montage shows he was versatile too, he could poach, but could also shoot from range and from dead-ball situations. Probably the only man to make the pony-tale a credible hairstyle option (sorry David Seaman)!!!! Absolutely magnificent.

Romario and Roberto Baggio are to this day my favorite players. In 1994 i was lucky to see them both compete in that final of the World Cup and they and their teams were so good at the time, that they cancelled each other out. Both had a couple of big chances to score and at the end, with one eye i was smiling for Romario and with the other i was crying for Baggio. They both deserved that World Cup and they both deserved the Ballon D'Or that year. Italy has never produced a bigger talent that Baggio before him or after him, in my opinion. He was totally atypical for an italian player. Too bad that his knees did not help him and the likes of Lippi, Cappello, Ancelotti or Sacchi, never understood him as a player or his immense potential.
