The funny thing about Draisaitl is, when you see him moving, he seems to skate so stiff but in fact he`s damn fast. You can`t really tell why he is so good, but the numbers don`t lie, he`s that good.

He's the least flashy elite player, which in my opinion is why some people write him off as a product of McDavid. His IQ in the ozone is off the charts and he's the hardest player in the league to get the puck off of due to his shear power and size. A truly unique player.

  • @derek4044
    @derek4044 ปีที่แล้ว +83

Leon Draisaitl is the modern evolution of the power forward. He doesn't throw crushing hits like Ovechkin, but he leverages size and power as well as anyone with the league. And he uses his hockey IQ to create a truly unique threat.
I'm a Flyers fan (regrettably), but Draisaitl is competing with Matthews for my favorite player in the NHL.
    Love him as a player.

As a german, thank you, a lot of people say Leon is only good because of Connor, but he isn't, they are equal, just with another style of play, Connor makes fantastic and effective stuff and Leon just does effective stuff. Also a huge factor of why he is so great is that because of him hockey is becoming more popular in Germany (sadly still a soccer country), but especially after his trophy year, everyone here knew about him. After that most of the junior teams here became bigger, so maybe there's the next German Gretzky in the making because of the German Gretzky himself. Great video bro! :)

100% Leon is Connors Equal. Him, Matthews, Makar and McKinnon are on another level in their own right. He takes the most draws among any forward on the team, is top 10 in the league on draws, top 5 in points every year, only a few goals less than the greatest goal scorer the league has seen since Ovi and probably the best playmaker in the game to boot. I'm a huge believer that Tim Stuetzle will climb the league too and we will start to see Germany with the rest of the hockey super markets.

He's excellent at reading plays and conserving his energy I swear I barely notice him some nights until I look at the scoresheet. When I watch games live I'll often follow a player's entire shift and he's one of the smartest players in the league.

So for me as a German born in 1981 in East Germany (former Russia area) and a hockey player myself, Leon is the best player Germany has ever had. For sure!
As other Germans may already sad, Germany puts most of the money into Soccer. That is the reason why we only have a few players that can reach the level to play in the NHL. It is a shame, because there are probably a lot hidden talents, that will never see the inside of an hockey arena. Just because we don’t have that much arenas. And the popularity of hockey is missing… it is all about the fu..ing soccer.
Anyway, nice video go keep what you’re doing. Loved it!!! Fun to watch and fingers crossed for the Oilers to win the Cup 👍🙏😊

Fun Fact here: A good friend of my dad was the youth coordinator of the Mannheimer ERC back in thr year where Leon put up 192 Points in 29 games. He played on a line with Domink Kahun (former NHLer now Swiss League) and Dominik Tiffels (Point per Game player in Germanys Top League last season). He told us that they were so dominant that due to respect and fairness torwards the other team they most of the time played only 2 out of the 3 periods, sometimes even only 1 out of 3. Just think about that for a second.

He worked hard on his skating after being big and talented at a young age. The next generation of prospects can note a few trasition steps he did well above average. Skating, team success, and shooting the puck enough times to continue keeping the goalies guessing. Mark Messier left an authentic legacy of leadership with exceptional talent, he complimented Gretzky so well. Leon is well on his way being on that level. Good luck Oilers.

Many Oiler fans also know about the belief that McLellan had in Leon. Great video. 27K views so far.
I thought that they should have tried the Dominik Kahun experiment for a bit longer. He had tremendous success with Leon in minor hockey, and in his 48 games with Edmonton in that shortened 2020-21 "bubble" season, he had 9 goals, 6 assists and 15 pts. For comparison, this season, after 46 games (so far), that's more goals or points than McLeod, Yamo, Fogele, Ryan, Holloway or Puljujarvi. He could be had on a one year league minimum contract and could be sent down whenever needed. If he was 2 inches taller and 25 lbs heavier, I'm sure he would still be in the NHL.

Leon Draisaitl has been the best goal scorer in the league. Compared to Matthews if we dissect what the best goal scorers means, it should be efficiency and quantity. Matthews has 257 goals out of 1577 shots leaving his avg shooting at 16.4% in 407 games. Draisaitl however has 254 goals out of 1443 shots with an average shooting% of 17.6% in 558 games. As of now I can argue Draisaitl is the better goal scorer but Matthews can mostly definitely be better than Draisaitl any given year in the future. On the flipside Draisaitl rarely gets hurt compared to Matthews.

His hands are nowhere near the dangle ability of Kane or McDavid. His puck protection and passing accuracy are really the only things that stands out as dominant.
But his hockey brain is simply unmatched. His vision and ability to pick apart the weakness of the opposing team elevate him to a top 3 player in the NHL.

LOOK FELLAS: I'm going to trade you this abysmal video of an "analysis" and tell you why Draisaitl came 3rd overall. First of all, scouts thought he was slower than the rest of the class, but Draisaitl had vision that didn't come around so often while he was playing for the Prince Albert Raiders. A lot of guys passed on Leon, so did I, but he was still top 5 for me. If you do a serious, and I mean serious, deep dive on his play with the Raiders, you will see he plays with exceptional vision. There have been many players with "vision" but Leon was great because he could do it while he was a slow skater (you can see this now, but it meshes with McDavid), but because he progressively got better. He eventually hit the bar in 2015. You can see his one-knee one-timer as evidence of someone who trains. Not many players train, train, train, train and train. I just wrote this because I get sick of all these youtubers trying to gain views off something they know absolutely nothing about.

Todd Mclellan was an awful coach with the Oilers the last 2 - 3 years of his tenure. At least one former player said he was a poor communicator and I believe it. Did a great job with the Kings last year though . . .

You say the last 2-3 years of his tenure, yet that was all he coached? I mean, know ones perfect, just because one person said it doesn't mean it's true. Jay Woodcroft is a great communicator and he's as big as advocate as any towards Todd... so idk man. He's in the NHL. Clearly he's doing something right! But each to their own!
