    The editing is top notch. I would also argue that because there is so much information in our hands, people tend to shut down, ignore the problems completely.

    Who is the author? Who is the targeted audience? What is their claim? What is their purpose? These are the essential questions we must ask whenever viewing media.

    Nice video. But I think it gives way too much importance to philosophical discourse. The claim that some french philosophers that were only read by highly cultivated people have somehow paved the way for fake news was thrown in with absolutely no demonstration (quite contradictory I guess). And it presupposes that fake news would need a philosophical basis somehow coherent with it (statings that there are no objective facts etc.), which doesn't make any sense. Finally, if we could just make everyone critical by teaching them philosophy, all our problems would be solved. If you really see that as a concrete solution to the post-truth problem, you must really live in the platonic world of ideas.

      I think he is referring to deconstructionism of Derrida's philosophical views. Not that it has paved the way to fake news per se but it has shaken the structures of objective reality, towards a better understanding on how it has been constructed in the first place. What is the internet if not a breeding ground for ideas, a highly abstract world. It'll be a matter of knowing how to distinguish between the important ones from the superfluous ones. I think he hits the nail on the head, philosophical studies maybe crucial to rise above the post-truth era.

    ... with your anagram, the computer age generations would be much more discerning as it is very very easy to see many many references and many many discussions... minds of even the petty would be obliged to wonder instead of simply having one source of reading material... two generations passed by me that verbal news updates though takes 60 days to 90 days are reliable than wasting time reading newspapers... or watching tv news... or listening to radios...

    I don't think it's necessarily like that. Truth is truth. Even if you take back towards it's base latin meaning. Just like so with the word lie or lies, false or fake. They have a meaning for purpose. You take those out of context to mean what you want them. Is no different than those who lie. There is a good ans and a bad and a right and a wrong. Becasue no matter how to label it or twist words around. The actions from your choices will speak for themselves and you will have to label them for what they are not what you want them to be.

    No, footnoting is a scientific article that is more recent. The did some footnote in the 19th century but only a fraction of today. Get your facts straight. Right now you are between well-researched sights ( example: th-cam.com/video/zJeyeIPNEiU/w-d-xo.html ) and pop sights with much looser fact-checking.

    And once again, here is the "postmodern" strawman. I'm sure all the birds are impressed. But then again, blaming postmodernism for Trump is an easy bet - a lazy bet, but easy nonetheless.

    • @jerryh2248
      @jerryh2248 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He didn't use PM as a strawman here. If you know the tenants of PM then you must know how it questions the validity of stances in every area of discourse including science/religion/philosopy etc. The criticism of PM is not it's propositions (IMHO) and even Jordan Peterson backs up much of what it presents, but admitting how flawed something is without a solution, doesn't get you anywhere- which is the PM issue. The video isn't 'blaming' Post Modernism, if anything it's showing how at least PM's assertions are TRUE by showing how subjective arguments are such that even objective 'facts' can be manipulated (pictures/news) and once the distortion is set, since nothing can be trusted, only the tribalism trust is followed. I just read an article today regarding the guy sending the bombs in the mail (now labeled MAGAbomber...see what was done there?) and the story showed the FB posts of the alleged bomber. The story re-printed the FB post, BUT, left out the last 2 lines he printed in the post and I believe it was intentional because those last 2 lines were negative to the authors bias. Hell, I've witnessed actual quotes being written differently and supposedly that's impossible because THATS WHAT MAKES IT A QUOTE!
