One of the things they forgot to mention, though Clint has pointed it out in pervious videos, is that rehomed tortoises might be a better option for most people. As they mentioned, these animals often outlive their owners, and because of that, there tends to be a decent number of them looking for homes. There aren't too many cons, the biggest would be that if you got an improperly kept animal, they might have special needs, and if they need socialization (which by the looks of it, many of them won't) it'll be harder with a larger individual, and they might be harder to find (thought I kind of doubt that). But beyond that, I can't think of much, if you are set up to properly keep a tortoise, then you have the space for an adult tortoise, so the size when you get them shouldn't be an issue. A rehome is likely to be cheaper, and the biggest bonus is that it's already lived a while, so you may only be looking at closer to 40 years left instead of 60-80.
I have a rescue tortoise! She was actually in pretty good shape when I got her, costed me no money for the animal itself, and she'll still outlive me lol. Hatchlings are cute, but you're gonna have only a few years of bebby and 90 years of adult so, if you want the tortoise because the babies are cute, not the animal for you.
I think a point that was a little overlooked too was that rehoming almost any other animal, you run a huge risk of that animal being put up because of behavioural or health problems. With these guys, it's more likely that they outlasted their owner than them having any actual problems, which makes rehoming even better! Rehoming is always best in the first place if you can because despite problems, they need homes just as much as the next little guy. People who take in animals who are in need don't get them because they want something specific. They take what they do because they've connected to the animal, which is beautiful. And often means they will do what they can to make that animal's remaining years as amazing as they can. So, I feel like reducing the likelihood of unhealthy or difficult aquisitions is kind of a gift in a way, to those with a big heart.
He used to wheelbarrow them to the barns before the little sheds were built. And if there is a hurricane he wheels them to the garage shelter. (I'm a fan and been watching for a while lol)

It would be great to have something similar, but just with tortoises. Snakes and lizards are fun, but tortoises have such a calming “there’s no rush, we’ll get there when we get there” relaxed energy to them.
I've read that tortoises don't really like being handled and can be stressed out by it, but as long as the tortoises themself are fine it would be cool.
Good idea in theory but not good for tortoises. They can handle some handling but they generally like to be left alone. If it was a look but don’t touch kind of cafe, then it’s pretty cool
@@Princessbubblegum567 yeah plus as soon as financial incentive and the public is involved, the health of the animal can go out the window, sometimes over a long period especially. Omg I love tortoises SO much! Their pudgy little leggies are just so cute and how personable some of these little ones were, so precious! Waaah I love tortoises and unless I can stop being disabled some day, I can never have one. I'll have to just keep watching them on TH-cam. For real though Clint, I'm sure you won't read this because of how old the video is but I'll say this again on the next video you post so you do see it, I'll go into more detail there too. As someone who has been bedridden for the greater part of the last 7 years, and happens to LOVE reptiles, animals, and just nature in general, I am SO incredibly thankful for people like you who go out to these places, and out herping, and just show us how amazing and beautiful and wonderful the animal world, some of which I have never even dreamed of, let alone knew existed (dragon snake for one) is. I am super envious of your life, but I mean that as to compliment the person, and amazing ambassador to the animal kingdom that you are! Please never change. So you can imagine that finding sea snakes on an island just off New Zealand, hanging out with cool tortouuse dudes, or even something simple as the Canadian equivelant to your herping in Utah is pretty much perma-out for me. You and the rest of the TH-camrs of the hobby are all I've got. And I appreciate the heck out of all of you. *You're* the one who's stinkin' rad, my new friend.

When you guys were talking about you having a way with animals, Clint, I really understood what you were feeling and hownyou responded. I've always loved snakes, and have never had a negative interaction with one. I will always remeber the moment I knew I wanted a snake. I was a really little girl and I have always loved all animals. I had always really been drawn to snakes but never really got to interact with them often. I don't think it was my first time holding a snake, but I was looking at a black and white baby king snake at a massive chain petshop called Pj's Petstore here in Toronto. It was the smallest snake I had ever seen, and I was instantly inamoured with the little thing. An employee came by a few times, myst have noticed I was so fascinated and asked if I wanted to hold it. I of course said yes, and they got the snake out and handed it to me. I couldn't have been older than 10. My mom was nearby, and the employee stayed with me and told me about snakes while I held it. Meanwhile? Yeah the snake curled around my hand, it's tail aroundy pinkie finger, and I kid you not, it fell asleep. I'm not talking a ball python, it was a full on KING snake. I was so heartbroken that I couldn't keep it. I knew it was asleep too because not only was it not moving and had its head resting on its body, the employee confirmed it. Since, I didn't have much of a chance to hold snakes, had I done so, nothing like that ever stuck out. That was until I got my baby Kira about 15 years ago now. I loved that snake. It was just a plain old normal morph ball python, but all I knew about ball pythons at the time was that it was cheap to get one and I loved the one at the store. This snake would follow me when I went into the store, and loved to kind of stand up as tall as it could before wavering and falling over. I just had to have that silly little noodle in my life. Any time I went to take Kira out of their enclosure, they would be "standing" just so excited to be out. Kira would then fall asleep on me. We would watch TV together, I'd give them nice quick warm baths with just about a quarter inch of water every once in awhile, which Kira absolutely LOVED! I just had so much fun with that little yep rope. Unfortunately, I got her while in a relationship and because I moved out, and I didn't have anywhere to go (his and his mother's names were on the lease. I broke up with ex, he kicked me out) I had to leave Kira behind. When I was finally able to come back to move my stuff into my new apartment (had to stay with a friend for a week) my ex had moved out, and took my snake with him. I was just thankful he hadn't also stolen my cat, nor just let her out to spite me. Especially since his sister had forced me to get my cat declawed 🤬. I couldn't afford the snake and enclosure and all that, after that, so I had to wait. Then I got pregnant. Now, I have the means to be able to afford a snake enclosure again, and my son has been saving up his christmas and birthday money the last few years for a snake. My dream snake since Kira, has been a Blue Eyed Lucy. I told my son, and he has decided that's what he wants too. We will name him or her Sans. And now that I know how to tell the sex of a snake, I will know what pronoun to use!
It is so easy to fall in love with those gentle giants. I hope anyone who thinks about getting one for a pet will watch this video and consider if they will be able to truly provide what the animal needs to thrive.
The Galapagos tortoise has been one of my favourite animals ever since I was a kid. There's something so mythical about them. I'm definitely gonna adopt an older tortoise at some point in my life, though it probably won't be a giant as the climate in my country is a bit too rough for an outdoor setup. A lot of tortoises end up in shelters & at rescues, so those are great places to check out if you want one! My friend has a 71 year old tortoise (can't remember excactly what kind) who'd been handed to a shelter in 2011 cos her owner died of old age, so the long-term commitment is real!
I'm british and the only one of these a tiny british house could accomodate is the elongated tortoise. I have a greek spur thigh, they end up only slightly smaller than the elongated tortoises and I'm pretty acutely aware that in 10 or so years time she's going to be taking up about half a rooms worth of space, in a house with 4 rooms in it (not counting kitchen and bathroom). Our garden is probably about 10ft wide (and it's britain so they have to stay indoors after the summer anyway). The idea of owning something like a sulcata is laughable, let alone an aldabra or galapagos. I'd have to have money oozing out of my ears to live somewhere where I could house something like that indoors. It just really puts into perspective what a difference it makes to have access to so much real estate. Kamp Kenan looks like its about half the size of my whole town, genuinely. I imagine for most people across the pond finding the kind of space to house a larger (or even medium) tortoise isn't even a thought that crosses their mind.
I have to say, I would love to visit Kenan one day as well. I also cannot wait until I am finally able to purchase my own house where I can dedicate an entire room to 2-3 tortoises and another room for some other reptiles I've wanted for years :). I currently have a Russian Tortoise, and seeing him active every day is just such a joy. I was worried for a bit because he wasn't pooping a lot, and spent most of his day with his eyes closed, but after forcibly putting him out of his house in the last 2 weeks and soaking him a lot more than I normally would, I am happy to say that he has come back to his former self :)
Thank you for all the wonderful information! Thanks for all the wonderful content! And thank you for the sneak peek of the progress on Slinky’s house! 👀
That video was nice and all...but it left me wondering if a Galapagos tortoise was the right pet for me... maybe if someone were to possibly rank them in 5 categories....

Epic collab! More tort videos, yay! RIP kenan's beard
A Couple of the rare guys who really love these pets
It is so easy to fall in love with those gentle giants. I hope anyone who thinks about getting one for a pet will watch this video and consider if they will be able to truly provide what the animal needs to thrive.
27:09 what video is this from with the hybrid snapping turtle
Sooo passionate and smart ya'll. Thank youuuu for sharing. Also hilarious. 😂 Turtles soooo cute.
Been waiting for this collab
The Galapagos tortoise has been one of my favourite animals ever since I was a kid. There's something so mythical about them. I'm definitely gonna adopt an older tortoise at some point in my life, though it probably won't be a giant as the climate in my country is a bit too rough for an outdoor setup. A lot of tortoises end up in shelters & at rescues, so those are great places to check out if you want one! My friend has a 71 year old tortoise (can't remember excactly what kind) who'd been handed to a shelter in 2011 cos her owner died of old age, so the long-term commitment is real!
yay! A collab between two of my favourite reptile channels :D
Those radiated are stunning.
Definitely one of my favorite collaborations
Red-footed Tortoise: ❌
Chicken-pox Walking-box: ⭕️
Good God😂😂 I don’t get the “chicken-pox” part but it just sounds hilarious.
@@jillmondt5398 the red spots look like chicken pox
Clint, kennan, nerd and snake discovery are the best channels.
One of my favorite videos yet! Thanks so much for this
Really enjoyed this - thanks a lot for sharing!
you guys are great fun. I watch all you guys. so cool
It was fun to hang out with these two goofballs.
I was worried for a bit because he wasn't pooping a lot, and spent most of his day with his eyes closed, but after forcibly putting him out of his house in the last 2 weeks and soaking him a lot more than I normally would, I am happy to say that he has come back to his former self :)
wonderful video as usual, Clint and Kenan
I love both of these channels.
I love ur collabs with other reptile enthusiasts Clint! Keep it up
Great video. Love the collaborations
It was already a great vlog with you and Kenan....but then there's Dav!!!!
Legendary collaboration
This really is heaven for turtle and tortoise lovers
I just saw a comment on reddit that referred to Clint as the ‘Mr. Rogers of herpetology’. I can’t disagree
yes all he needs is the sweater and song😁
@@janiceellery1653 my comment was “somebody get that man a cardigan”
That one tortoise has some "Yessss, provide me with skritches, human, and I shall unfold the secrets of the universe to you." energy.
Thank you for all the wonderful information! Thanks for all the wonderful content! And thank you for the sneak peek of the progress on Slinky’s house! 👀
OOh score! My three favorite reptile guys. Thanks!
Kamp Kenan, nice, one day I'd love to visit it.
I love the Kenan take over ☺️
You make me happy Clint!
Love watching kamp Kenan
That video was nice and all...but it left me wondering if a Galapagos tortoise was the right pet for me... maybe if someone were to possibly rank them in 5 categories....
Hi Clint, new sub in from The Minkman 🍻👍 looking forward to seeing your clip with Boon . Awesome tortoises 🐢 👏 😎
