John Calipari bolts for Arkansas after 15 seasons with Kentucky, Bronny to NBA? | CBB | THE HERD

- John Calipari agreed to a five-year contract with Arkansas after spending 15 seasons with Kentucky. He led the Wildcats to the National Championship in 2012 and went to four Final Fours in his first six seasons in Lexington. They went to the Elite Eight in 2017 and 2019 but only had one NCAA tournament win since their last run. Colin Cowherd reacts to the move and then discusses whether Arkansas will thrive under Calipari. Bronny James declared for the 2024 NBA Draft last week while keeping his name in the transfer portal. LeBron James has recently hinted at playing for only another season or two and expressed interest in playing with Bronny in the NBA. Colin reacts to Bronny's announcement.

let me know how Russell Westbrook, Jimmy Butler, Fred VanVleet, Alex Caruso, Austin Reaves, Draymond Green, Kyle Kuzma, Mikal Bridges did their freshman year of college, then maybe you’ll start thinking twice about your NBA prospect knowledge. Maybe then you’ll also consider guys like Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and Steph Curry (among others) who had to go to lower level schools because the larger schools didn’t want them.
The point is not that Bronny will necessarily be able to accomplish what any of those guys have - the point is that even experts make huge mistakes on who will make it in the NBA, and they do this for a living. So you of all people should absolutely start questioning whether you know as much as you think you do. End of story
@@lionelgrisbane-ud87 I'm ONLY referring to his comments about Cal going to Arkansas and them being a 3rd tier school.
Arkansuck is going nowhere but a first round exit . Have you watched Kentucky regress in the SEC past 5-6 even 7 years?
@GoatedAtNFS you really don't think a completely new start, double the NIL money, and renewed motivation to prove people like the pundits and you wrong will amount to anything?
@@matthewpinson4208 no, i don’t. here, Arkansas will make a splash at the start and regress just like Kentucky
only 1 championship in the 3 major sports since joining the SEC. only 1. the rest are in track and field if i’m not mistaken. the tiers for the NEW SEC is like this (in terms of facilities academics AND sports)
Tier 1: Georgia, Tennessee, LSU, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M. All of those are elite in all 3 categories
Tier 2: Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi State, Auburn, Oklahoma
Tier 3: Missouri, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, South Carolina (from what i’m told Ole Miss is a dump, as they have a classless fanbase)
it’s not devaluation. it’s just representation and the facts. tier 2-3 is the top heavy tiers where they either lack a lot in one category compared to another
Arkansas made the 2 Elite Eights and went further in the tournament than any SEC team in 2021, 2022, and 2023. They just fell off this season.

Arkansas has 52 National Championships. This idea that Arkansas is a 2nd or 3rd rate college is really showing how many people didn’t go to college, lol.
The amount of shade and shots my hogs have been taking is unreal … do people really not know how great a spot Arkansas is???
It’s not shade saying they are second rate, I guess in my opinion second rate here means second tier, they are not a top 15 program. They are outside that, sure elite 8, but final fours are what matter . And beyond obviously, but zero final fours since their lone early 90s title.. calling them second rate I don’t think that means they are bad or less than average. But their are at least 15 maybe 20 ish better programs based off outcome. They are not getting trashed they are getting the respect they deserve
It ain’t Kentucky
There are tiers to the sport. Kentucky is tier 1, along with Kansas, Duke, North Carolina. UCLA and now Uconn make up the next tier (2). After that is about 6 schools in tier 3 (Louisville, Michigan state, Indiana, Syracuse, Arizona, Villanova). Arkansas is in the next tier with schools like Texas, Tennessee, lsu, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio state, Oregon, Maryland, florida, notredame, baylor, auburn, (big budget football schools schools with some history of basketball success). Still a great spot to be in, just not Kentucky. I'm excited to see what he can do there. I probably missed a school or 2 in some of the tiers.
Arkansas has 52 National Championships. That’s 7th in the Nation. Not a 2nd, much less 3rd, rate College.
@@JohnThompson-es3ph Gonzaga omitted immediately caught my eye, but a better list than I wouldve done off the top of my head for a dumb youtube comment that 10 people might actually read!!!
Look Cowherd. Arkansas is not 2nd or 3rd tier to anyone. Arkansas has an 18,000 seat NBA Caliber arena. Arkansas NIL collective will be around 10 mil. For the team next year. Thats about 800K per player, for a 12 man roster. Coach Cal upgraded. Nobody in the nation has better facilities than Arkansas. Arkansas is #1 in baseball because of that. And outside of Saudi Arabia, no place on earth has more Billionaires per capita than northwest Arkansas. And they are all University of Arkansas Alumni. Everyone one of there names are in concrete on the senior walk on the Arkansas Campus. And the president of the university is now listening to the money. And Arkansas will be at the top of all sports in years to come.

“2nd to 3rd tier program” ?? 😂😂😂 …Cowherd showing how little he actually knows about CBB. Arkansas is the 2nd best program historically in the SEC. Multiple final 4s, elite 8s and sweet 16s. Far more dominant in basketball over the past 40 years than Tennessee, Alabama, etc.
he’s an idiot. I’ll agree, Arkansas isn’t Kentucky. But Cowherd acts like he’s going to some scrub, mid major school or some program like Vandy. Do some research.
ESPN did a massive piece this year on top 50 CBB programs all time, and Arkansas was in their top 20. That’s not blue blood, but it’s FAR from “meh” or 3rd tier.
I never wanted Muss to leave, but I don’t mind this. I think Calipari is a bigger name that can take us to another level. I thought Muss could do it, but USC probably makes more sense for him.
Cal is going to Arkansas, because it’s going to be better than UK going forward. Why? NIL money. Jerry Jones, Tyson Meats, the Waltons. He will get the recruits no problem at Arkansas.

from here on out: you can airball the free throw. fail to call a timeout. miss the inbout pass. fall the floor. do the only dance you have and then get some tv cred when its all said an done.
Couple of things, calling Arkansas a 3rd tier program shows how much you know about college basketball. Also can we stop calling Belicheck the greatest coach ever? He was nothing before Brady and now he's nothing after Brady. If it weren't for Brady nobody would care who he was.
He won a superbowl before Brady as a dc & is responsible for making him a 6 time sb champion he was drafted in like the 7th round. Nobody believed in him bill did named him a starter and carried him to his first sb
The differences Kentucky’s not getting the same recruits without Calipari. That’s just facts players go for coaches they don’t care about history of schools especially when it comes to SEC basketball come on now lol.
Please Fix The Volume!!!!!!.....hey smart people....figure it out!
Arkansas gets 4-5 5 stars a year.. But the right coach at Kentucky can be a true winner. Give Oates or Drew or Smart or Sampson a shot pls. They build up correctly 3:13
OMG!!!what didi just say? what I actually thought. don't foul out before halftime. don't airball every freethrow attempt before the game has ended.
It’s interesting all basketball commentators say this is a great move for both sides and talk about how Arkansas is a tier 1 program but Colin who talks Cbb once a year only throws shade backed by unsubstantiated opinions
Arkansas did UK a big favor...not sure what Arkansas is thinking. Didn't they think they could get some up and coming coach? Maybe they're hoping for the same UK type of thing where Calipari brings in NBA guys for one year, but does he win in the tourney. Scott Drew to UK seems like their best choice for some stability.
On FTF yesterday, Nick and Chris also waved away nepotism as “the norm” and cited Chris Smith and Seth Curry...who both played 100+ more games and put up better stats in college than Bronny. Forget whether or not he “deserves” to be drafted, it feels like he’s being pushed to do something he’s clearly not ready for.
I agree with Colin that nepotism is alive and well and it’s silly to think it’s going away anytime soon. However, just cause it exists doesn’t make it right. I’d prefer to live in a world of character and merit and, if I should find myself in a position of power one day, will hopefully lead by those traits.
Meritocracy is a an outlier in most industries. And even to be recognized on your own merit, you still have to make connections and maintain relationships to thrive on your own merit. Your work does not replace your network.

Jay Wright back in the game would be awesome
No chance that's happening .
Nova nearly fired Jay, Self has been bounced in the round of 32 3 out of the last 4 years…

That's encouraging Colin. NBA cares. Can't wait till the next kid in the NBA draft who last name is not James is a labeled hard worker, smart kid, improving with a cardiac condition and averages 5pts a game.
Obviously Calipari knows how good the Arkansas job is. If we were a "3rd tier program", as you say, he would not have come. Its a top ten job. Learn to accept it. Better funded than anyone. WPS

We want Rajon Rondo!!!
In regards to Arkansas being a 2nd rate CBB program I think Colin means they aren't a Kentucky, Duke, UNC blue blood level school.
Bronny is going to be the face of the league
Yeah connections matter but he’s not good yet. That scout was projecting two to three out at a minimum.
a modern day marvel: the AI doc is going to black. bring your own needles.
Wait, so why a team don't just draft Bronny and force Lebron to sign for the minimum?
need to get smart: AI has you covered
That depends on how many tiers are on your spectrum of college basketball programs nationwide. If you're talking Top, middle and bottom tier than I would say Colin is way off on Arkansas's college basketball program status. I don't consider Arkansas a "Blue Blood" program like Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky and Kansas, but it's a Top 15 basketball program all time.
sometimes sports is just about gamling. don't bet on losers.

its been 30 years. free throw is an airball. AI requires $14.99 a year. the rest is put to savings.
How many hoopers who went 16-60 from three have had so many water carriers telling the public he is a good shooter? Without his father's name and influence, he probably isn't a top 30 guard in the transfer portal, much less a draftable player at this point. Boogie Ellis is not going to get drafted, but is about the same size and is unquestionably player at this point. You can do that for another 20-30 guards in this (by all accounts relatively weak) draft. Devin Carter, Eric Gaines, Bub Carrington, both Connecticut guards, Jamal Shead, both Kentucky guards, his teammate Collier, Trey Alexander, Mark Sears, Tyler Kolek, Wooga Poplar, Boo Buie, Tyson Walker, Reece Beekman, etc are about the same size and better than him. Not all of them are getting drafted. Would it be the end of the world if the Lakers hand him a roster spot to keep his dad around for another year or two? No, but that doesn't mean you have to pretend he is good enough to think those who oppose that kind of nepotism are being ridiculous. It also means the other 29 teams won't be bothered if they do it. If one of the other teams draft Bronny, and LeBron stays in LA, then they look like fools.

Bronny to NBA😂😂😂
let me know how Russell Westbrook, Jimmy Butler, Fred VanVleet, Alex Caruso, Austin Reaves, Draymond Green, Kyle Kuzma, Mikal Bridges did their freshman year of college, then maybe you’ll start thinking twice about your NBA prospect knowledge.
End of story
shemale basketball. AI approved
The Dallas Cowboys of college basketball. Overrated. Overhyped. Poorly Managed. Obnoxious Fans. Unrealistic Unfulfilled Expectations. Living Off The Past. One Single Title In 25 Years. Cowboys=No Titles In 28 Years. Both teams have been surpassed in greatness by multiple teams and better coaches.
As a KY MBB fan since 1978, I say goodbye and good riddance to Calipari. He should have been gone 5 years ago. I actually stopped watching the team, because of him, that's how sick of him I was. Can't wait to get a fresh start with a new coach. This has been LONG overdue.
fake laughter. now a black trait. foul ball. airball. technical fould. they've got a lot coming
J.C should have came to Michigan
