Volvo has taken the wraps off the EM90 all-electric MPV, its rival to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Lexus LM in international markets. The luxurious EM90 has a claimed range of 738km.The EM90 will first go on sale in China.
The Swedish brand has not announced where else the MPV will be sold, but did mention that the 1953 Duett estate - which is the spiritual forbearer of the EM90 - was particularly popular in the US and Scandinavia.
The EM980 is equipped with a 116kWh battery giving a range of 738km on China's CLTC testing cycle, and capable of being charged from 10-80 percent in less than 30 minutes.
The battery pack powers a 272hp motor on the rear axle, which takes the EM90 from 0-100kph in 8.3 seconds. While Volvo’s first MPV is based on the Geely Zeekr 009 MPV sold in China, it seems that, for now, the Zeekr 009's top-rung twin-motor powertrain - which doubles the power output and effectively halves the 0-100kph time - will not be available
