    • @waltersimmons946

      Kath would've been the first original member to leave Chicago. He was extremely unhappy with the bands direction long. before he died . If you see the TERRY KATH EXPERIENCE on TH-cam hosted by Kaths daughter Michelle. It explains what TERRY really had planned if he lived. Remaining in Chicago was NOT part of his plans.

    • @lamarravery4094
      @lamarravery4094 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@waltersimmons946If I were Terry, I'd have left. He had so much talent and it wasn't really being used in the group after 1973. Peter Cetera became the lead vocalist in the band. But with Terry and Peter, Chicago definitely was a stronger band. It was great to have those two contrasting vocals in one band.

    • @waltersimmons946
      @waltersimmons946 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @lamarravery4094 Agreed Lamarr. Cetera, during the interview with Ernie Menous, said Terry , Robert( Lamm ) and Cetera himself in that order wanted to leave Chicago (over various times). Cetera said, Terry went out another way (the accidental shooting), and he said Robert ran him out emotionally 🙄. Terry was unhappy with Chicago's direction, and to be fair, Cetera's songs were 🎵 better and releasable than the other guys songs 🎵 toward the end of the Kath era. I think the drugs really decimated the bands creative ability almost to a point of no return. They're lucky David Foster came in whether they admit or not and partnered with Cetera. That saved the bands careers.

      This Band in their original era 1967 to 1978 was so good, different and unique they scared their critics with hatred and ignorance of them. Still does today. The critic haters of Chicago are missing a giant part of great energetic tapped into music history what music should be done exactly like. If the critic haters of Chicago just don't get it they will never get it or begin to understand it all. The soul vocals and rhythm of Terry. The percussion of Danny and Laudir. The bass and vocals of Peter. The band section. This band wasn't a fluke or accident in time. It is what music should always be creative about in the way I also enjoy the Moody Blues and Other great 20th Century Bands from the US and around the World.

    This was one of the first Chicago songs I ever heard. They were a group I had to warm up to. Their follow up “Wishing You Were Here” was the first one that I really liked because of Terry’s voice and the Beachboy’s backing. It was my first wife who started getting me into them and I became a fan of their rockier and funkier tunes. While everyone was getting into their power ballads, I bought II, VI, and VIII. Ironically I’ve never owned VII but I plan on correcting that ASAP. I really hadn’t listened to them much in recent years until watching a trio of documentaries. I wanted to learn more about them and in the process they’ve now become one of my favorite bands.

    On this day in 1974 {August 16th} the ABC television network aired the Chicago special 'Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch', featured guests were Anne Murray and Charlie Rich...
    At the time Chicago's "Call On Me" was in its second week at #6 on Billboard's Hot Top 100, that would be its peak position on the chart...
    Two days after the special aired, on August 18th, the record would reach #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart...
    The song was track two of side four on the group's sixth studio album, 'Chicago VII', and on April 21st, 1974 the album peaked at #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart...
    Two other tracks from the album also made the Top 100 chart; "(I've Been) Searchin' So Long" {peaked at #9 for 3 weeks on May 5th, 1974} and "Wishing You Were Here" {reached #11 for 2 weeks on November 4th, 1974}...
    And for what it’s worth; the day the special aired the #1 record on the Top 100 was "The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace...

      I would have to disagree... They died with Kath! The true heart and soul(and leader ) of the band! Everyone falls for that falsetto though

    I had a blast - thanks for posting.
    This reminds me of the yester-year in Saigon before I fled the country to immigrate to the states. Chicago won me over w/ their instrumental piece " Mononucleosis" then the Joe Cocker-like voice of Kath "Make Me Smile". I still love the band after all these years!

    Had an opportunity to see original lineup when they used to come to the amphitheater I think I also saw them at the Chicago stadium. The Chicago transit authority album was a Musical statement that remains relevant.

    What other band can masterfully blend R and R with such great horns. Wow, only Chicago. EWF did their R and B with horns in the 80s.

    Great song! Great band! Thanks for posting this. Neat to see them Live then. Saw 'em a few yrs ago. Sounded just as good, only with short hair. Guess some'd say that's another sell out? Nah. It's all about the music & the memories it brings back for me from Jr,Sr Hi & Army days. Wow! How many decades do they span? Some whine about folks who left or joined a band. I just know they made a heck of a lot of great music. & who cares if it hit #1? If you're that unhappy, just don't listen anymore.

    This hit by Chicago was the 227th #1 song on what is now Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #6 on the Top 40 charts. On a personal note, I saw Chicago in November 1986 at The Scope in Norfolk, VA. It was the first of many concerts that I would see during my time in the US Navy.

    Think about it. No lip synching. No auto-tune. People not charged hundreds to thousands of dollars for tickets to listen to a crap bunch of 21st century gibberish noise acts on stage. Raw imperfect bad day for Peter is even still better than most big act singers in the 21st century on their best day.

    I like this performance of Call on Me better than the album version and better than the way they performed it the two time I saw them live. Its slower, the horns lay back the rythms a little more, and put different dynamics, inflections and phrasing on their parts!

    Saw Chicago in Santa Rosa, CA a few years ago. They're still GREAT!! Love ALL their music. But sorry, not into the politics & history of who did what to whom. I just enjoy the decades of great songs they put out thru the evolution of their band. If that's selling out, I like it!! Just like the Beatles. Did they sound in the '70's like they did on Ed Sullivan? Things rarely stay the same. Heck, I didn't even like what Cher did to Sonny either! Can't we just get over it all? Long live Chicago!!

      Story goes, Loughnane wrote a rough draft of this song, a very rough draft where it didn't sound like it does now. He was showing his song to the band members, everyone told him forget about it. But Peter felt bad for him, so he worked with Lee to create one of their best songs ever. And Lee got the solo writing credit but Cetera should've gotten a cowriter credit for it.
