Alexandria wasn't my home town, but it was where my dad grew up and where my uncle still lives. I have fond memories of visiting there as a kid back in the '80s. It's been a while since I've visited. From what I've heard, it has changed massively. My uncle tried to stop all the trees from getting cut down in the downtown, but the city council wanted to save money. Apparently the city is too poor to even maintain a few living trees. All my uncle got out of it was grief. Recently, my uncle has been trying to save the Methodist church where my grandfather was the minister. There has been conflicts with the upper church leadership that doesn't live in the town, and it seems they just want to let the church die. Once unemployment dried up, it becomes a vicious cycle of decline. No one wants to invest in anything. And because no one is investing, there is less and less there that is worth investing in.
i knew every road and alley by the time i was 10 , it was a great town

Know anything about the Brobst Family? Owned a camera shop and development business there in town.
Pretty sad seeing the down town as dead as it is...
