    Please, labs, stop reducing or even removing the grain. If people want super clean images, they can just watch movies shot digitally.

    So, stick with the Blu-ray then?

    Well..... just got my copy and had to take a look right away to see if i wasted my money or not. No I did not! Using a panasonic 820 4k player and my 2022 85" samsung qn95b I must say I was really impressed with this 4K. The picture unlike what you see here is a vast improvement over the bluray. Sharper more detail and more colorful in every way.

    DNR'd. Damn it! I might pick this up used for the Atmos track, I guess. What a waste.

    Let me just put this out there, the movie legitimately looks great on 4k. Before people jump on me, I know some will, I own this 4k bluray and have watched it numerous times along with the regular bluray, even VHS and DVD, I've seen it on everything. I'm a stickler for DNR too, trust me, I despise it and wish it to not be used and I don't understand why it's coming across that way in the video because there is more details then the bluray and grain too, very fine for sure but I've watched it and I can tell it's there, its not a perfect 4K bluray but its the best its ever looked for home video. I'm not throwing any blame towards the person who made this video either, he always does an amazing job, ive seen practically all of them and use them to show friends and family differences between transfers. I'm guessing something probably got lost in translation trying to compress it and get it on TH-cam more then likely, which is incredibly common. As for the aspect ratio, that's how it was originally projected, 1.33 for the television scenes, 1.85 on earth in the beginning and in space it opens up to 2.35, that's how it was originally done and the color matches more closely with the original theatrical run, the director supervised and approved this, trust me when I say this, it's a great 4k transfer and worth your money, in my opinion.

      Our protocol is strictly identical across all editions. And yes, we have to deal with TH-cam’s constraints and image compression. That said, for still images like the ones shown here, they provide a meaningful first glimpse. And no there is no attempt to distort any particular rendering. As for the rest, please note that these videos should be considered as supplements to our written reviews on www.hdnumerique.com. Just read our review and conclusions, and you’ll see that we largely agree on the value of this 4K UHD edition. Thank you for following us!

    1:05, 4:05 The Thermians are supposed to be strikingly pale, almost grey. Now they just look orange, and so does everyone else. No thanks, I'll pass.

    Is it just me, or does the UHD seems to have some slight DNR applied to it? Several of these screenshot seem slightly softer on the UHD. Or did the old transfer have some EE? Can't decide.
    I have very mixed feelings about using the aspect ratio. I get that this is the OAR used in theater, but it just looks kind of stupid on a TV having the image be boxed on all 4 sides for a significant portion of the movie. I think instead of putting the 1.33 and 1.85 segments into a 2.35 frame, which is then put back into a 1.85 one, maybe utilizing the full 1.85 frame for the 1.33 and 1.85 segments and then going to 2.35 by introducing letterboxes on the top and bottom may have been a better compromise for a home video release.

      @hdnumerique  หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Your observations are valid. You're right to notice the UHD appearing slightly softer; there's definitely some noise reduction applied, and it's not universally appreciated. It's also true that the previous master likely had some edge enhancement (EE), making a direct comparison difficult and the overall impact hard to quantify. It's a tricky balancing act.
      The framing choices are unconventional, and the "boxing" effect within a larger frame isn't ideal for home viewing. However, the transition scene, moving from 1.85 to 2.39, is key. The widening frame is meant to evoke not only the opening of theatrical curtains, but also the expansion of the hero's consciousness, their opening to a new perception of reality. This effect would be completely lost if the 1.85 segments weren't contained within the 2.39 frame. It's a stylistic choice that, while divisive, contributes to the intended visual and thematic narrative.

      "Its just added better contrast.... "
      Opinion vs Fact.
      No more dust, a more generous framing, respect for the alternating aspect ratios, new color grading with HDR & WCG, and an Atmos remix.

    That's a really stupid idea to crop the image and lose part of the image with the 4K blu-ray version!

    • @SamLovesMovies25
      @SamLovesMovies25 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Apparently, although it might look kinda odd on home TVs, those were the aspect ratios originally used, and thus it is essentially restoring it to how the filmed originally looked theatrically (in terms of the aspect ratios shifts at least).
