Oh thank you so much for posting this video. I've had a rough couple of days and needed this. The clock faces are darling. I love hearing Stella. My kitties have all passed away and I'm not well enough to care for another. Visiting with you is always such a treat.
Thank you so much for this video. My mother was Swiss her mother took her back to Switzerland to visit her family as a graduation present after she graduated high school. The year was 1932. After mother passed away , I found her journal, she had pressed an adelweisse flower in the pages. It still looked like it was just pressed. Of course, She loved antique coco clocks and she had many. She also studied botany and loved gardening, as I do. Thanks again for refreshing those old memories.
I love watching your life, we have moved every 3-5 years and my family got tired of moving all my collections so I got rid of everything 5 years ago, but I think at 67 years old I am going to find a place I want to spend the rest of my days and I’m going to start my collections again 😃, you are a great inspiration
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow I agree, My mother and grandmother were both collectors. I am too. Their collections were distributed among the heirs and my daughter can do as she likes with mine when I am gone. What I do have from my mother and grandmother is treasured.

Oh Jeri!!! Such an inspiring video!!! Aren't we so lucky to be able to buy things from any country in the world that we want!!! That was so exciting to see your vasculum!! So many beautiful things are still in this crazy old world. Thank you for being wonderful Jeri with her excitement over God's natural world!!!!
О. Из России.
I love your shed with all the wonderful things. What a treasure of a birthday gift. I have never seen one before. 😊I take my grand girls on walks with a good size basket and I let them collect leaves and rocks and dandelions and acorns, all the things. Then they get to keep the basket on the porch. They play and play with everything they found. We also press leaves and then paint on them or stamp with them. I love the dried flowers, so beautiful. Also love hearing the sweet kitty.
The vasculum would also be great for seed collecting in the field in autumn. Just put in a few blank seed envelops and a pen. No more seeds coming home in coat and pants pockets.
This is a video that I will watch time and time again. I could spend hours here just looking and investigating this intriguing space. I love the vasculum - a new word to me. What a precious find! I enjoy pressing flowers from my garden. Sometimes I attach them to watercolor paper and add a personal note to a friend.
Now I’ve learned something from you again dear Jeri….never knew about the vasculum boxes and you have found quite a treasure in the one you were able to get. I also love the illustrated herbarium you have there by Henry Terry…just beautiful. The color of those zinnias are stunning. I too have found that they dry beautifully and retain their color quite well. Not all flowers do. Sending much love from the farm. Xxx🤗
I believe they would line the bottom of the vasculum with damp moss to help keep the collected plants fresh. I, too, bought a vasculum and I really love it. Such a practical way to collect plant specimens.
Thank you so much for this video…my grandmother had a coo-coo clock from my Aunt when she and my Uncle lived in Germany when they were in the Air Force…I loved it when it went off…but fortunately my Aunt took it back after my grandparents passed…it was a BEAUTIFUL clock…I loved the details on it so very artistic and creative…and now I know what to do with my extra pressed flowers I have…I LOVE the idea of the book and labeling what they are…I cannot believe I didn’t think of that before…and I also LOVE that book by Henry Terry…I’m looking that up for sure to get…I so much ENJOY watching you and your home and place is so INCREDIBLE!!! Again THANK YOU and have a GREAT rest of the week… I’m off till the 25th from work helping my hubby recover from a knee replacement done today…all went well and hopefully he has a speedy recovery and not much pain…he had it done in Burlington, Vermont…what nice doctors here…❤😊🌿🌸🌿🌼🌿💐🌿
I have had both knees replaced. The pain was terrible for me. I hope it wasn't that bad for your hubby. I also hope he recovers quickly. It is well worth the price of the temporary pain to be rid of the full time pain.
I don’t have time to watch the entire video now. Just a few words to say how much I look forward to your videos, Jeri. I’ll be back later. Honestly, these videos are such a joy to me. It’s like getting a Christmas present with each and every one!
Another great video, Jeri. What a beautiful part of history, the vasculum. Yours is so beautifully decorated. I looked online and they are very hard to find. It was so interesting to hear how the box was used. I wish I were young enough to take a box and go collecting in the wood. That would make my heart very happy. Well today I did , if just in my imagination, . Have a beautiful day Jeri and thank you.❤
There are many images of them on Pinterest, but to find one for sale is rare. When they do appear for sale, they are terribly expensive so I feel I was lucky to find mine at a decent price.
You always share such wonderful books, and then I search online to buy for my sister or myself! It's always so fun to get a new used book to enjoy! I've also found many at our library sales shop.
Another lovely, informative video, thank you. Your vasculum is very lovely. I ,too, have never heard of nor seen one. Glad for you to have found it. The Henry Terry book is similar and reminds me of one I have, The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady, by Edith Holden. Written in 1906, it is a recording words and paintings by her as well as verses of poetry by several well known and some not so well known poets of her period and past. It is a monthly calendar as well that she documents her outings and findings. I enjoy going through it all year and to begin again. Always a pleasure. In Joy
OMG, a vasculum has been on my collecting bucket list for a long time, ever since I saw one on the UK show The Victorian Kitchen Garden! Congrats on your acquisition!
What a wonderful birthday gift, perfect for you . I think the red is red oxide, they often add that to tin to prevent rust, if tin is ever scratched. Enjoy ! xxx
Never heard of a vasculum, but enjoyed hearing & learning about it (very pretty btw). And Jeri, you truly (along w/your hubby) have truly created a little paradise on earth. I'm sure it hasn't always been easy, but boy you figured it out someway & while I love "visiting" with you here on your channel I have to admit, I'm rather envious. Maybe one day I'll figure it out too & create a haven for myself but until then I will just enjoy yours. Thank you for sharing your some of your awesome life w/us!
Your property is so gorgeous. I have loved antiques forever, it seems. It's so nice to see you utilizing everything your gardens have to offer. Love to see how you decorate and the provenance behind the antiques and what they are used for. Please show more. Thank you
Autumn has always been my favorite time of year, the colors and smells just warm my heart. I just love Stella, she is so sweet. Your potting shed is a page out of a dream magazine. Thank you for sharing your new antique addition, what an unusual and beautiful piece of art.
New to your channel. We are kindred spirits...I'm an old lady lifetime gardener and vintage/antique collector. The vasculum box is new to me glad to learn something I've not heard of. Your box is incredible...the graphics are incredible.

Love your expertise on sharing all the things we all have in common with you. We love all you do. You are the one with the artistic gifts though. So talented and gracious to share your loves with us.
How exciting that you found a long awaited treasure in that beautiful vasculum! You are someone who actually needs one of them. "Needs" being the operative word ha! Happy Birthday again! 🌿🏵🌿
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I learned so much! I found a flower press in a thrift store a while back. You have inspired me to actually use it. 😂 Again thanks so much!
Love the vasculum. Thanks for sharing. So fun. I love collecting fall leaves right now and pressing them and then, putting them on my round table, which is covered by an old white tablecloth and which I had a glass top made for. Thus, putting them under glass, the leaves can be enjoyed for the season. Sometimes, I add dried ferns as well. Anyway, it’s a fun way to appreciate the pressed leaves and flowers longer and you can change it all year long. 😊
So grateful for the instant peace I feel when you share a video! Jeri, my eye caught a lovely sight over your fireplace. Was that a wood carving of a hare in a garden? Those vasculum boxes are inspiring!
I love the colors of the box. I used to collage with pressed flowers. I got discouraged when they faded. I’ve started up again, using them in a collage with some man made objects, or a painted colorful background. I’ll get around the fading if it kills me! lol
I had a Victoria magazine once with little girls dressed in Victorian or Edwardian dresses with their vasculums in a field of flowers. so beautiful!! Audrey on 1824 Walker Farmhouse TH-cam has a couple she showed in one of their videos. Yours is beautiful! What a wonderful addition to your home and gardens!!
I love Audrey and I remember seeing her 2 Vasculums hanging on a cupboard door. I asked her about it in the comments and remember hoping she had them up for sale. But they belong to Dave and he wasn't selling them.
I have learned so much from you. Thank you for taking the time to teach us the history of items and techniques. Absolutely love your content. Blessings from California
Always love see your beautiful flowers that you have grown with such love! So nice to see you preserving them! I was wondering if you have ever tried flower/leave hammering on cloth articles? I've come across a few videos about this and am hoping to try it next spring. It looks like a beautiful art form!
Oops! Champs Clocks in Douglas County, GA! On spring equinox day, there are all the clocks that sound! The movie with Jack Black A House Within a Clock used clocks from Champ’s Clocks. I have some of their clocks.
Such a beautiful potting shed , garden room relaxing room 🥰love all those face clocks 🕰️ you have so many unique collections , the green tin is gorgeous 💚
What a lovely and interesting video. Never heard of a vasculum. I just love your flower presses and everything in that shed. Thank you it’s very uplifting.
I am so happy that you found your vasculum box. I never knew about these. I loved this video. It reminded me of a few years ago when I first found your channel. Hopalong Hollow is magical. The kind of magic you can experience just by watching. Thank you so much for your artistry of life. It is truly magical to see.
Champion’s Clocks in Douglas County, Georgia, has an event at the Spring Equinox where all the clocks sound! Mostly grandfather clocks, but there are also many Coo-coo Clocks, including one giant 10 foot tall (or close to 10 feet). I know you would enjoy it next spring! I wish you could experience it!
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow they have a Winnie roast and lots of kids. I buy clocks I can afford. I wasn’t the Washington Grandfather Clock, and they have that exceptional coo-coo clock!
Thanks for sharing your Vasculum. I had never heard of them so learned something new today. I can see why you were attracted by that one. The graphics are beautiful and I love the green. 💚
Jeri, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about your vasculum purchase. I had never heard of them before. Interesting!! Your videos about the antiques you collect are among my favorites, as you tell us a good deal about their history, use, and collectability. You have a great eye for finding the unusual and the pretty.
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Oh!! One of my favorites! All colors, but mostly blue and white. As you know, so many colors are getting harder to find and more costly.
The potting shed is magnificent Jeri. That might be the place the little mice got your seeds in there ..😮 Interesting and educational video. Those pennies that I hung and dried fresh are still the same color so I’m hoping to be able to put them in the Christmas tree this year along with that tiny little bird nest I found. It’s hard to believe that the holidays are coming so soon, but as I age I noticed how fast a year goes by now. Cheers! …. Brian
Your new find is so interesting, Jeri. A flower press is one of those things that I always wanted but never got around to having. Love yours. Love this video. Have a nice day!
When you mentioned your birthday present from Switzerland, I thought it was going to be a cuckoo clock. For the first few minutes I thought I had guessed right! It’s fun to learn new things about old things. I recently watched a video all about chatalains. It was so interesting. Here in Ohio we’re getting close to our first frost and I don’t have many flowers left. I’m still picking tomatoes though, and our colors are starting to be beautiful. Fall is such a special time of year!
Very interesting! You're right, I'd never heard the term Vasculum. I believe I've seen such items before in antique shops but they didn't peak my interest enough at the time to find out more, and I think I've only seen very plain ones because I know I would have been interested in any with lithographs. Years ago I had a large collection of kitchen tins, but we moved and I had to give them up at that time. But I do love the old graphics on metal. I love your clock faces too. Always wanted a Black Forest Cuckoo clock. But those miniatures are so cute! Your herbarium shed is full of wonderful curiosities! I wish I was organized enough to have such a place to enjoy. I'm just too scatter brained and unorganized and totally lack your creativity. My things look more like hoarding than collections. I enjoyed a trip to Colorado in 1999 and collected all sorts of flowers which I pressed in a large phone book. I never did anything with them, the flowers are still in the book. Oh, well. I've enjoyed all your beautiful flowers! We all need more zinnias and dahlias in our lives, and I mean that sincerely. Just wish the grasshoppers would stop eating mine! I do so very much enjoy all your videos. And you left me wondering what sort of "frogs" you'll be sharing next time? Flower frogs, sculpture frogs, frog paintings, or a frog collection of some kind? I'm looking forward to finding out!! I've really been enjoying watching the bullfrogs in my tanks lately. Thank you for everything you share with us! 🐸🌺
If there is one thing a collector needs, its organization. my shed would be a disaster were it not for my passion for "arranging" things. I'm needle felting a frog at the moment, so we must delve into the mysteries of frog life.
Jeri, I had never seen a vasculum before. That one does have a lot of graphics on it. I really enjoy tins but that one has history. I loved this video. Thank you for always educating us about your treasured items. Blessings!!!
I seem to think that in an illustration in Louisa May Alcott's Little Men, Papa Baer held a vasculum when he took the boys out to study nature. Probably in the 1870+ when many Americans went to study and hike in Germany.
Loved this video! Your gardens, greenhouse are so neat, interesting & beautiful. Love your birthday treasure & had never heard of these. I love how yours has the castle painted on it. When we was stationed in Germany on my 9 th birthday there, my mom got me this huge painting of the castle in Wurzburg because yrs prior when my parents were stationed in Germany was when they had me & i was born in Wurzburg. Thankyou for such a interesting video.
Jeri, have you tried using one part glycerin to two parts boiling water and soaking flower stems and picks in it for 3-4 days or up to a week? I've got boxwood branches that have been soaking for a week now and they look really good! I plan to make some topiaries out of them for the holidays. I hear they can last for years after the soaking. I'm going to have to try some of my other cuttings and experiment with it. Just wondering if you've ever tried the glycerin. I enjoyed the video today very much! I'm trying to think of a way to make a botany box out of fabric. Perhaps quilting it and making it into a purse. I loved learning about it and you really scored for your birthday!
I learn so much from you. Another reason to wish plastic was never invented ; ) Love the victorian flower book. Will keep an eye out at flea markets. Will have to get another flower press. I don't know what happened to the one I had ; ( Blessings to you.
My flowers don't 21:20 My flowers don't hold the color. I pick in the afternoon. Try to do all the recommended information and no help. Yours are so pretty. I love your potting shead. You are filling it up with lovely items. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Thank you
It really does depend on the flower type. Zinnias seem to have that special knack for keeping much of their color. Of course, strawflowers and Gomphrena are the best.
I love this Jerry. What a beautiful find you have there. I've never heard of such a vasculum which for me is quite ridiculous because I spent ten plus years as a self employed horticulturalist, although not strictly a botanist so I guess I could get away with not knowing, my father in-law was a natural scientist and was an avid fossil hunter, loved everything from butterflies to plants to rock formations so he may have heard of them but I never heard him speak of vasculums. I hope you now feel fully equipped to hunt for specimens according to your taste or will you preserve it as an antique in its current condition?
I'm sure your father in law was familiar with the item. I won't use it, unless in a video. It is too precious to take any chances with banging it up further or allowing it to rust so it will simply be on display.
Oh thank you so much for posting this video. I've had a rough couple of days and needed this. The clock faces are darling. I love hearing Stella. My kitties have all passed away and I'm not well enough to care for another. Visiting with you is always such a treat.

My fireplace? Maybe a different video... there IS a wax leaping Hare on my fireplace mantle.
I love the colors of the box. I used to collage with pressed flowers. I got discouraged when they faded. I’ve started up again, using them in a collage with some man made objects, or a painted colorful background. I’ll get around the fading if it kills me! lol
It is frustrating when they fade so much...
I’m back! Well, you learn something every day. It seems like a nice device for collecting. Lovely video.
What a treasure you have!!! Wow!
You did introduce me to something new. Thank you so much. Love learning.🩷
Loved this video!!!
Beautiful as always🥰🥰💕💕
Always love see your beautiful flowers that you have grown with such love! So nice to see you preserving them! I was wondering if you have ever tried flower/leave hammering on cloth articles? I've come across a few videos about this and am hoping to try it next spring. It looks like a beautiful art form!
I had no idea that this was possible. I'm going to have to check it out.
Never heard of it....
The videos are on TH-cam !
@@janetwalker3541 I watched some. It's too involved for me.
I love all the jars and the labels ooh my, so gorgeous
Your birthday present is amazing. Perfect for you!
Oops! Champs Clocks in Douglas County, GA! On spring equinox day, there are all the clocks that sound! The movie with Jack Black A House Within a Clock used clocks from Champ’s Clocks. I have some of their clocks.
Beautiful Jeri! Now I have a new "want" ❤❤❤
Such a beautiful potting shed , garden room relaxing room 🥰love all those face clocks 🕰️ you have so many unique collections , the green tin is gorgeous 💚
I got lucky with those clock faces, just stumbled upon them all in one place.
Great video! I have only read about the collecting boxes. I’m a serious antique person and have never seen any either.
I wonder if they are easier to find in Europe, I imagine so.
beautiful day! and what a neat botanical vasculum.
Wonderful! I think I have used a backpack for years as a vasculum 🤩. I want to say hi to Stella, she was talking to us ❤️❤️
Stella is a bit of a ham..
What a lovely and interesting video. Never heard of a vasculum. I just love your flower presses and everything in that shed. Thank you it’s very uplifting.
I'm so happy you found your treasure!
Thank you for the knowledge, charming!Love to learn!Fun!Thanks!
I am so happy that you found your vasculum box. I never knew about these. I loved this video. It reminded me of a few years ago when I first found your channel. Hopalong Hollow is magical. The kind of magic you can experience just by watching. Thank you so much for your artistry of life. It is truly magical to see.
How nice, thank you!
O wow. I didnt know these ever existed. I normally take a ice cream bucket or 5 gallon bucket when collecting stuff.😅
Sounds like fun!
I wonder if they would be easier to find in your neck of the woods.....
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow I'm not so sure. I've never seen any out and about in vintage/antique markets that I know of.
What an amazing find!
I love your space! O to have a space to create and press my flowers!!!
Somewhere down the road I will be talking about Transferware.
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Oh!! One of my favorites! All colors, but mostly blue and white. As you know, so many colors are getting harder to find and more costly.
I love all of your knowledge…so interesting….
Cheers! …. Brian
Yes, that is the shed where the mice had a party!
That's actually not a bad idea. I would love a real size Cuckoo Clock. Maybe next Birthday...
When we lived in PA, I treasured every bloom that remained in the fall.
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollowI bought one in Regensberg, Germany when we went on a Danube River cruise. It’s so charming!
You know, I think you are correct, I vaguely remember such an image. Now, I will have to do a search!
You are so COOL!😎
Loved this video! Your gardens, greenhouse are so neat, interesting & beautiful. Love your birthday treasure & had never heard of these. I love how yours has the castle painted on it. When we was stationed in Germany on my 9 th birthday there, my mom got me this huge painting of the castle in Wurzburg because yrs prior when my parents were stationed in Germany was when they had me & i was born in Wurzburg. Thankyou for such a interesting video.
My brother was stationed in Germany and came home with SO many Pictures of Castles, he loved the country.
I've never tried it; I had a friend in the craft world that did all her flowers in that manner, they were stunning, especially the roses.
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow thank you I will need to try ags
❤❤❤
It is truly a very valuable antique and rare art feast, but do you take special care of it?💓🦌💓💓💓...
Yes I do. I have many special antiques that need extra care.
