    This explains a lot. I was wonder how with modern computers a ripple carry adder can do 64 bit addition in one clock cycle apparently without latency. At 1.6 GHz that would mean doing one ripple in 0.01 nanoseconds, or much less for faster CPUs. I think carry look ahead adders make things 4x faster if there are 4 adders per block, but I don't know if that would be enough. Because it's proprietary I can only speculate.
