    At this point in the timeline, SG1 had just recently recovered a ZPM in the season 8 episodes Moebius. The timing was perfect, it enabled the SGC to send backup through the gate and then deliver it (ZPM) via a ship in 3 days. It was nice how the two shows were in sync.

      I never like the ZPM's. To me it was lazy writing. What they should have done to limit the ZPMs use is make getting the power out of it difficult. If they did it wrong it could damage the ZPM. The ZPM then could explode (bigger than a large Nuke). This is why they are kept in the Pegasus galaxy since that is where the only tech is to asses it is. There is also a limited supply of them.

    • @amitakartok
      @amitakartok 4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      What I've been considering is that the reason why the Ancients were so unconcerned about limited availability of ZPMs when designing their high-end equipment was because they never actually phased out the Destiny's solar scoop system as their go-to power source for starships. ZPMs are more like real-life RTGs, to be used in case whatever needed power wasn't capable of visiting a star for a quick fuel run, such as ground installations and Atlantis-type city ships (which are actually quite fragile even in canon once their shields are down).

    • @ShepardCZ
      @ShepardCZ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      They got stuck in the past and their versions from other reality had to fix it for them, which means that the ZPM was recovered in the third reality. So the expedition from the original was destroyed by Wraiths and the other one never existed.

    • @aguyhere7945
      @aguyhere7945 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@amitakartok I'm assuming the Ancients had some kind of factory somewhere that let them build as many ZPMs as they wanted, but that factory either wasn't on Atlantis too begin with or was disassembled and taken with them once they left Atlantis for Earth. ZPMs were only limited because by the time the SGC made it to Atlantis no one but the Pegasus replicators had made any in thousands of years.

    This was imo the strongest moment in season 1. Imagine if the SGC hadn't been able to get the ZPM in time and the Atlantis expedition was forced to abandon and scuttle Atlantis, fleeing into the depths of the Pegasus galaxy possibly to never be heard from again. This could have very well been the very last thing anyone on earth ever heard from the Pegasus expedition. Their final goodbye

      I always found it odd that they never asked the Asgard to check up on Atlantis. Their hyperdrive tech is extremely fast so it wouldn't have even taken long.
      One of their ships might have even been able to fight off the hive ships in combination with the other defenses such as the satellite weapon and puddle jumpers/atlantis drones. It wouldn't be like the Daedalus which was completely useless once its beaming technology was blocked.

    • @Theomite
      @Theomite 6 ปีที่แล้ว +73

      +TKGriffiths More annoying was that the Asgard didn't bother giving their hyperdrive tech to the SGC at all. Hermiod lived on the Daedelus so much you think he'd tell the High Command "Dude, we HAVE to give them our intergalactic drives. The commute is KILLING me."

      TKGriffiths - One of their ships might have even been able to fight off the hive ships in combination with the other defenses such as the satellite weapon and puddle jumpers/atlantis drones. It wouldn't be like the Daedalus which was completely useless once its beaming technology was blocked. - According to the Story line , The original Atlanteans could win every single engagement even though they were outnumbered by the Wraiths . They closed up shop in the Pegasus Galaxy and returned to Earth because they couldn't win the overall war , meaning no matter how many Wraith vessels or Wraiths themselves were destroyed , the Wraiths kept coming . The only way to win was to wipe the Wraiths out of existence , if you defend against an attack by any Nation and successfully defeat your attackers, they will go away and not return . Supposedly this wasn't the case with the Wraiths , no matter how many ships you destroyed more would arrive and attack .Your suggestion is why couldn't the Asgards send a ship to check up on the Atlantis Expedition . The 1 Asgard Ship Would be forever engaged in battle with the Wraiths protecting the Atlantis Team unless the Wraiths actually defeated the 1 Asgard vessel .Remember there is an episode where Dr.'s McKay and Jackson actually met Pegasus Galaxy Asgards , The Wraiths drove them into an irradiated planetary system where they were forced to survive for the previous 10,000 years , they only came out of hiding because of the activation of the Otero device .

    • @TKGriffiths
      @TKGriffiths 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Ye but those Pegasus Asgard were cut off from the rest of the Asgard for thousands of years, so they didn't have the technological advances like the O'Neill class ships or the new beam weaponry. Their outdated ships lost against traveller ships, even. The modern Asgard ships would do even better against the wraith ships than the Daedalus and Apollo did (after they got beam weapons).
      The reason the wraith were able to keep coming indefinitely against the ancients were their ZPM-powered cloning facilities, which weren't active anymore during the time of the atlantis expedition. The one facility that did start up again was destroyed soon after.

  • @leonkernan

    Imagine if they'd just used the device O'neil built to dial the Asgard to call Atlantis. After all, it worked in two separate universes and only required a zat blast to recharge.

    • @IBeforeAExceptAfterK
      @IBeforeAExceptAfterK 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I don't remember a zat blast being involved in the recharging, pretty sure it happened off-screen. You might be thinking of when O'Neill increased the efficiency of a cargo ship's hyperdrive on their way to Praclarush Taonas. Also, it's a miracle that they managed to get the thing working again at all (it took two Carters), and it can be assumed that it was destroyed beyond repair by the second use.

      @@IBeforeAExceptAfterK that thing was built on Earth, i see no reason (except plot reasons) to not do some reverse-engineering and build more of the devices. With some more tries and experiments it could be just the ideal device for travels to another galaxies, or even boosting ship´s shields for a short time. Also, if i remember correctly, there was an episode, in which one of the Ancients hidden in Carter´s house built his own little Stargate by using only home electronics, which held only for few seconds, but that also meant building such advanced technology wasn´t impossible with Earth´s tech. Even in case circuitry will short, that doesn´t mean entire structure will fall apart, so it should be repairable. Which means - in emergency situations, gates like that one could be used for evacuation around the world, just not simultaneously.
      There are tons of things full of badly described plotholes created just for exact plot in exact episode (mostly the same as it was with TV series Eureka and/or Warehouse 13, which was held in the same universum). These entire universes only work if you don´t think about it.

    • @temporaneo617
      @temporaneo617 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Morpheus-pt3wq in the case of the minigate, I distinctly remember the ancient saying something on the lines of "they won't be able to rebuild it because x reason". I think he always meant for the components inside it to melt so much that they would be indistinguishiable from one another, but that's mostly headcannon. In regards to "let's build the mini zpm o'niell made" I actually have no counter. I don't remember that well that episode.
      Internal continuity can indeed be a real bitch to deal with, I know it from personal experience, and usually issues with it would be resolved in subsequent redrafts of the story. The fact that in a 10 year long tv show that was mostly written as it went along there are so little continuity breaking moments is actually quite remarkable, and a testament to the skills of the writers involved with the show

      Yes and no... because is required the 8 chevrons to be able to transport solid material, like humans but sending information that is basically just energy isn't necessary but I see your point, as they're getting something outside the grid: just like when telephone lines where "pitched" by spies decades ago.
      Also as was shown when the Asurans attack Atlantis with their Satellite, while there's enough energy from the In-put Gate, the Out-put Gate will remains active indefinitely.

      Nah, it was an inbound wormhole, so I'm pretty sure the chevrons are irrelevant. Offworld activations don't spin up the receiving gate, the wormhole just gets connected almost immediately. As for why the computer shows 7 chevrons, I assume they still have their computer system set to the default 7 chevrons since they can't dial out to 8 chevron addresses, which is why it looks like that, but I wouldn't call that a mistake.
