  • Lengthy video on how to repair a stuck pinch roller on the TEAC A-6300. The same procedure can be used on similar TEAC models. NOTE: Most of the other models require the tape out switch to be removed also.

    Thank you. My father gave me his TEAC 2300A and passed away thee years ago. The pinch rolled became stuck and could not get guidance from him on how to fix it. Then I found this video. I appreciate your work... thank you. His birthday is today. I got my deck working like new and listened to some tunes to remember him.

    Hey Matt…thanks for the great video. I followed your advice and was able to get the pinch roller back in action on my Teac A4300. I also lubed the motors and changed the belts. Thanks 👍👍

    Hi Bigg Matt,
    first of all, thank you very much for the excellent video on "TH-cam" of the repair of the TEAK A6300 😁
    I had the same problem on my A6300 after not using it for many years. 😢
    The pinch roller could not be moved another millimeter. (Microinch)
    To remove the pinch roller assembly I only removed two screws
    (BSA M3x6) from the “SPRING BRACKET”: So it was not necessary to remove the spring.
    After heating the pressure roller bearing with the heat gun (about 30 seconds at 350 degrees Celsius), I could easily pull off the pressure roller assembly.
    The rest of the work was easy.
    Now it runs again without problems, my old TEAK A6300 😄
    Best regards from the “VOLCANIC EIFEL REGION” (GERMANY)

    Thanks for the video. Using your method, I repaired the sticking pinch roller lever on my recently acquired A2300S. I was relieved that I didn't need to remove the front faceplate. Like yours, the post on mine was loose, and the lever moved although tightly, once I removed the flywheel retainer. Using a deep socket, I was able to re-snug the post from the rear.
    I was a little apprehensive using a heat gun inside the unit, as mine is quite large and gets very hot. It did take a good amount of heating though, to free up the old lube. I think this is a poor design by an otherwise brilliant tape deck manufacturer.

    Great video. I have the Teac A-1250S. I’m having the same problem with the pinch roller not engaging. Probably the same problem. Just having a problem getting that metal arm off that rod to clean the inside of it. Seems like there are two screws connecting it to the magnet. Need to fine a tool that I can fit in there to get those screws out. Then the heat gun trick that you demonstrated.

    Hey Matt, hope your holidays were safe, and I hope 2022 will be as safe, and as profitable as 2021. Not really sure if I should have this deck fixed, or just purchase another one you've restored. I don't know what it would cost, I would be interested in pricing. Would you send me an idea of what it would cost me to get another deck, or to have it refurbished by you.. By the way if I didn't say it before, I'm saying it now Welcome Home... let me know when it's convenient.

    One thing that bothers me is in your video at 24:15 you appear to push that rubber washer on the capstan shaft all the way flush with the brass bearing behind it. Does it just look this way or? Because on mine there is a ridge machined into the shaft and I thought it should sit on that. So I have space behind my rubber washer. Is that correct? Because it sure looks like you are pushing it all the way down flush with the brass bearing...

    • @cdwhiley

      @@5thcomm hey man, thanks so much for the reply. Well, I'm not sure. I spent hours meticulously cleaning the exterior, tape path, and q-tipped the heads with isopropyl last night. It's the beginning of a long journey. Im super unfamiliar with all this but I have a pal from Mexico that is very experienced helping me along. My issues are the pinch roller mechanism is gummed up. Playback sounds pretty good, but the tapes it came with are all I have so it's hard to judge. I recorded some stuff from my computer and through a mixer into the 6300 but it sounds muddy and kinda muffled. It kinda oscillates between clear and nice for a moment back to muffled again. I suspect I might have tension or alignment issues. My take-up reels are all the cheap clear plastic ones and I'm getting a lot of side rubbing as it enters the right hand side reel....so these cheap reels might actually be kind of warped. The tape platters (sorry that's probably the wrong word) seem a little stiff. Everything seems a little stiff. Sometimes rewind wants to give up towards the end and I have to help it along. I really can't tell how worn the heads are to be honest but they don't look like there's a deep groove or anything. Today I downloaded the owner's manual and the service manual. I have some experience with fairly basic electronic repair like component replacement and recapping and some troubleshooting skills looking for shorts and open circuits but nothing special. I'm a little scared of all this fiddly mechanical stuff. In short, I've got a lot to do to get this thing to 100%.

      @@5thcomm sorry I typed so much there man. Just finishing watching this video. Just ordered a heat gun on Amazon. I'm gonna tackle this next week I think. Can you tell me what kind of grease you use to lubricate this mechanism? White lithium? I found some stuff on Amazon called Super Lube-21030 Synthetic Multi-Purpose Grease. There's also a 21010. Silicone grease too. Lot of choices. Thanks again so much for all this great information. Edit: I have settled on Lubriplate :)

    Would it work by applying the liquid wrench product to the pinch roller and capstan from the front of the unit, or would that cause a problem with the electronics?

    • @5thcomm
      @5thcomm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is on a different shaft you can only access from the rear. You could try liquid wrench. Hear works much faster. Let me know how it goes.

    • @larrycossin1742
      @larrycossin1742 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure that your way is going to work better for longer. My thought was that it just applying the liquid wrench would eliminate the stickiness of the old grease and therefore free the gas roller up to work

    I have a TEAC 3300SX and the tape transport solenoid starts klicking on and of repeatedly sometimes during playback. It is an intermittent error and hard to find. Do you have any suggestions for where the error could be?

    • @5thcomm
      @5thcomm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never experienced this problem. The symptom points to dirty contacts on a relay. Also, Sheckler the positioning of the solenoid to ensure the plunger fully engages when energized.

      @@5thcomm Thank you for the answer.
      The ticking sound when it goes into these hickups makrs me suspect that it is some kind of timer circuit (a relay and a cap etc) that has gone berserk.
      Always difficult to find intermittent errors...
