I agree with you on the use of police dogs. There are many jobs for dogs that don't involve harming people, drug dogs, search and rescue dogs, etc. I can understand the use of dogs to protect officers but there are many ways of doing their jobs without the use of dogs.
I love that you mention people with dogs who don't understand them or worse, deliberately train them to be vicious. Those people should get the punishment and not the dog. We have family dogs who are very protective but have never bitten anyone. They sound terrible and it keeps strangers away. But once you come in the house it's a struggle to see who's getting the most pets!

I agree with everything said here, granted I looked up abolish police dogs because i wanted to see what people thought about it.
Having said that I want to add on by saying that a dog cannot be relied on like a tool BECAUSE they are animals. They do not think and feel and reason in the same way humans do either, and should not be relied on to do so under stress (to a standard stricter than the human police officers as well). But they are animals, they think, they feel, the react and they are unpredictable because of it. They are not a hammer, they are an animal.
