Temperatures will go often to -20 C (-30 C not so often but still I would go to school on foot) Now you have rain throughout winter and it goes below 0 sometimes for few days... My parents expireinced even harder winters!
That’s the kind of winter I came here expecting.Because it’s the one most people know and talk about.It definitely has gotten better over the years but it’s still very cold for me .🥴🥴And It seems this year might be even colder than the previous winter 😭😭

Another thing is is amount of light during the winter, days are as short as 25 years ago, but back then everything was covered by snow reflecting light, so days were short but bright. Now it is all the time cloudy, grey and depressing. And skiing season is short. I hate winter. Don't all people from hot climates love snow?

If you go to Germany with the intention to live there, you will have to learn German, Italy - Italian and so on (NE might be an exception). English will be always a backup language in non English speaking countries ;). About the weather, we do have really hot summers (we consider them hot at least :))

Not dismissing her experiences with racism but it's when you learn the language that's when you hear the racism.I lived in Slovakia for 3 years which is just next door to Poland.It was after l learnt the language that l started hearing words equivalent to the N word all over the place.

It sounds so snobbish to be in another country and say you have no interest in learning their language. This is why some immigrants are faced with such hostility. The sense of entitlement is so distastefully disrespectful. When I knew I wanted to study abroad, I did not approach it as a way out/ better option to home, instead, I learnt the language & culture for 1 year before even applying to universities.

True, what I hate about Poland is that they assume your nationality. I am white Nordic female and they always call me Polish, Romanian, whatever, it is like other countries do not exist. Also when I start to speak, they are like oooh You are british. It is like UK is not a country for them, I assume? Normal, polite person would have asked where I am from, but Polish do not. They will not call You Polish, if You are black or Asian. I saw many racist girls here in Warsaw, abusing innocent foreigners which is disaster for me. In Warsaw, many older people are more friendly than these teenagers.
