  • Inkarnate (inkarnate.com/) is a new tool that is currently in open beta (free) that gives you tools to make some really nice looking fantasy maps. Whether it's for D&D or just for fun, Inkarnate seems like a great tool. While it has very limited options, I'm sure the final version will improve and provide more. Check it out!

    To make more jagged coastlines, use the larger brushes to create a rough outline of your land mass and then erase away the edges with a smaller brush

    This is a fantastic piece of software. My 9 year old daughter is captivated and together we're creating worlds and imagining who and what could inhabit such lands. This is the perfect springboard for launching ourselves into a narrative driven rpg (with a very loose interpretation of rules!)

    You can actually place individual mountains and change the size to small, med, or large. Uncheck 'randomize size' to have all the mountains stay the same size, then select the size you want in the scale bar.

    A quick tip, I found it easier to create more realistic looking coastlines by roughing it in with a large brush, then using a tiny brush in subtract mode to cut out the round parts, works faster than drawing it in with the tiny brush. Can't wait for the full version of this to come out!

    Thanks for this, I never heard of InKarnate before I came across your vid. I had a play along with it. What I found was: you can get much better looking coastlines if you subtract afterwards. This works because it's similar to erosion I suppose. Take a small brush size and go at the edges of your landmass, eroding away. You will get more realistic edges and can also get the off shore islands that look right. Now I am going to check out some of your other videos, because I love fantasy map making.

      @WASD20  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam Evardson Thanks so much, Sam. Someone I don't even know made that intro and sent it to me. Pretty great!
      I have tried Syrinscape (trial). It was a cool way to get some music and sound effects if you want that. I have not found sound effects something I really want to tinker with while running a game, but that's just me. I hear good things though, and my experience was positive.

    If you want a really quick coastline, you can use a large or medium size "add" for the basic shape. Then create a small "subtract" sculpt and go along the coastline. If you cut in a little deeper it makes small islands off the coast. Anyone know of a sci fi version?
