Lonnie was as nice as he was talented. One of the joys of spending my 20s in Chicagoland was going and seeing Lonnie play at places like Blues Etc. I would bring my out of town co-workers to see Lonnie and tell them they were about to see the greatest guitarist and showman that they had never heard of before. Lonnie never disappointed. I would always show up early and Lonnie would see us sitting there and ask, "Who did you bring this time?" He would join us for a quick drink and tell a road story about the city my co-workers were from. I don't think I ever heard the same story twice. He was a consummate professional and always made sure everyone left with a smile, and appreciation of the blues and at least one moment where you would say "how'd he do that?"
Seen him play. Met and heard Mr. Ronnie Brooks play with Neighborhood Blues Band. What a performer. Lonnie must be braggin To anyone and everyone in heaven about Ronnie.
Some great photos and what a beautiful and touching tribute. That smile tells the story of a man who loved what he did .. and boy did he do it well. RIP.
Played here in Sudbury, Ontario Canada. Was awesome to have him come out in the audience playing some sweet blues guitar. Very approachable person, just a great concert!!!
Thanks for the beautiful music and for influencing my playing and the many lives and souls you touch with your gift. rest well blues slinger, blessings! :)
