I've been rather disappointed that it's no longer possible to get the value from potatoes for fishcakes and peaches for various sweet recipes in a long world when everything decayed at this point but at least now I know how to use ruined piles of meat for pies, stews and especially broth. And fish curing method is also most useful for coastal regions that aren't highway cause salt isn't as abundant. Also worth mentioning Bashrobe's method of mass fishing using 6 tip-ups for such fish curing sessions. Great vid!
My friends and I have been trying to figure out why the ruined items were incorporated into recipes sometimes and not other times, but no one noticed it was the order in which you picked them up that makes the difference. This helps a lot, thank you!
Ye, I've noticed the ruined ingredients cooking as well hunting for the achievement of cooking 9 recipes, 'cause my run is at day 700-ish and most stiff is ruined. Didn't know about the fish though. I've mostly cured rabbit and wolf meet so far, so that was news for me. Thanks!
Informative vid, I subbed hoping to see more from you, I'm a die-hard long darkian but didn't know about the fish thing so great tip and thanks. Hope to see more.
One exploit I've used in the past was, when I had to much stuff to climb down a rope and there was no easily accessible goat path, I'd walk right to the edge of the cliff and drop my items. Most of the items will drop all the way to the bottom of the rope climb, but not all. Just pick up the rest and repeat until everything that's overencumbering you is down below. I used this once when I was moving base from Mountain Town to Mystery Lake, and I had a ton of stuff that I didn't want to leave anything behind. I actually used the more roundabout path through Forlorn Muskeg, because it let me use the Travois, which actually sped up the whole thing. That's how much loot I was transferring.
@anonymouspony1069 I have never had an issue on the ropes to the mine in blackrock, the ropes in keepers pass, the Mountatin town to Mystery lake ropes, and the eope to the high meadow or whatever it is called in AC. I have not tested other ropes but I did end up getting some stuff stuck in the ravine, in the Ash Canyon rope climb down to the gold mine. I can't think if any others rn. It might be something fun to test, take like 50 tinderplugs and drop them off every rope climb.
lil thing i just found out is that you can nibble on cooked acorns (as long as you dont eat the whole thing) and they'll still be fine to be crushed into coffee grounds, no matter how little is left.
I hate that you can't use ruined cooking items, like all the maple syrup in the world is gonne in my day 400 run. Hinterland should make it that level 4 or 5 cooking lets you use ruined items or something
The buggy systems that kinda broke during the last update seem to have some equally buggy workarounds. Hope they just change it to make you able to use ruined items for cooking As far as the fish in the curing box, seems like it coild be pretty easily changed to just provide you with a chunk of cured fish that was equal to the calorie content and weight of the fish you put in the box, like it does with all the other meat. Seems like it might just be an outright bug and was intended to work the same as deer steaks
I think at least the part that all fish end up as 900kcal was intended, as there is fish from 0.5 to 6kg while there is only up to 1kg in size of meat per piece. But well, it ended up being exploitable xD
Fairly certain that the inability to cook ruined food is a bug. Hinterland didn't mention that as a change and if it was intentional, most recipes would be useless as most veg ruins too fast.
Another shared tip from survivor to survivor, I watched bashrobe’s video and he said you can do up to 6 tip ups at a time! Also, thank you for your tips, this helps a lot with trying to cure food and use the fat.
@ Lots can be learned from bashrobe, his videos are great. Thanks for sharing! I do feel like I am drowning in fish with just 3-4 tip ups so I stuck to it ^-^
the ruined ingredients is odd. because while Peaches or Animal Fat or Meat cannot be used if ruined... Mill Flour can. You can cook with ruined Mill Flour without problems. I have also discovered the exploit you said about Syrup, but the problem remains though if all you have are ruined potatoes. And by day 200 they are all ruined. degradation = 0.5% per day
Great video! I automatically chose the smallest fish for the curing box so I can cook the bigger ones for oil. Now aren't fish less salt efficient since they are changed to 2.30 Kg inside the box? Do they use more salt than 1Kg of regular meat?
The way the game places items into inventory allows picking up the good animal fat last which meets the recipe requirements but then it does not then check the condition of the particular animal fat it is going to use. The good animal fat is just the last of a series of animal fat items in inventory. I have had several of nominally the same items, like harvested meat, displayed in inventory and as I dropped them watched the order of the items change. I get upset when dropping all the kilo chunks to find that somewhere the sub-kilo pieces got dropped and now have to search through the pile to find it. Seen that with lantern fuel bottles too. I have so much animal fat that I didn't think of this game behavior for processing them into cooking oil (of which I had a lot already). Still need a kilo of animal fat but this would allow me to use that up. At least until the devs make the game check what it is putting into the actual recipe at the time of execution.
Thanks for sharing this. I wish there was some way to slow the decay of some foods. I'm in day 170 on stalker and maple syrups, peaches and etc. I've been saving gone bad now.
10:12 I dont mind exploits to be honest. Its a singleplayer game at the end of the day lol. But, I could stop doing some of them if they actually update/overhaul the Condition mechanic. Some aspects of it are quite annoying.
@LootenantTLD It would be more inventory related than anything else. There are items that don't need to have condition. Coffee and tea practically fill your inventory with garbage instead of stacking together. And it doesn't matter if they are at 10% or 80%, they always give you 100% cups. So for them, condition is pointless. The other thing would be the Global decay mechanic, but only related to objects/areas that you are supposed to find. I read somewhere that, if you take "too long" to do the 3rd tale you can get the tactical gloves in 0% condition lol
good, i liked that. Ruined maple sirups will no longer keep me from pancakes.
Nice, i knew i was saving all these cans of ruined peaches for a reason XD thanks for the tip!
Hahaha same!

There will be more content, as this has been recieved so well ☺️

I've heard of that but some said that sometimes an item gets stuck half-way down and becomes irretrievable 💀
@LootenantTLD this depends on the rope climb
@neooblisk0084 id like to know more about this as I've done this before and felt i was missing someone afterwards 💀
Which rope climbs do this?
@anonymouspony1069 I have never had an issue on the ropes to the mine in blackrock, the ropes in keepers pass, the Mountatin town to Mystery lake ropes, and the eope to the high meadow or whatever it is called in AC. @@neooblisk0084thats a good idea, I guess im not dropping any stuff off any more cliffs for the time being though until I test it more

You can get maple syrup from the trader if you play with him enabled, and then use all the ruined bottles first :p

interesting, thank you!
I liked your voice, keep up the videos

Maybe. It's a little clunky that it gets "whitelisted" in the list of ingredients although you can't use it.
Hundredth sub, let's gooooo 🎉
"I'm here in bleak inlet"... on top of a roof? :P
Gotta maintain the chimney 😂😂

And yes, we all exploit here and there, pick and choose. It’s the great freedom this game provides.

@@LootenantTLD haha 100%, a fish 3-4 fish every 1-2 hours adds up FAST

Yep ^-^

You can use a mag lens inside the fishing hut.
I ought to try that :D
correct

The curing box has a set value of salt that it uses while curing. It doesn't matter if you put 1kg or 20kg of meat/fish inside 🤣
Safehouse things....
Yeah, that change screwed me on my 1000+ IL run. All ingredients I have are ruined. Any recipe using a non-renewable food is inaccessible for me.
Painful 🙉
The trader made some of the non-renewable foods renewable tho

Don't we all love searching through the pile of meat to find the piece that has only 45 calories 😂😂
