  • In the year 1864 Antonio de Torres build the FE 17 for his own use. In 1869 at the age of 17, Francisco Tárrega visited the Torres workshop with the intention of purchasing a guitar. The instrument Tárrega was planning to buy was much more modest than the FE17 built in 1869, but upon hearing him play, Torres offered this special guitar to Tárraga .
It was the sound of this guitar that inspired Tárrega and set him on the journey to composing some of the most famous pieces ever written for classical guitar, including Recuerdos de la Alhambra, Capricho Arabe and Gran Vals. Emilio Pujol, one of Francisco Tárraga’s most talented and subsequently well known pupils remarked that the FE17 was the best guitar he had ever heard.
The FE17 replica by Wolfgang Jellinghaus remains true to the original in many aspects, but comes with the option of various woods for the back/sides. This model features Indian Rosewood back/sides and a breathtaking antique finished spruce top.

You play very beautifully! I'm thinking about commissioning my first guitar, a Torres replica, and I found those Jellinghaus that look great and are French polished. This video sold me on them. I'd buy one if I lived in the US or Europe

Thank you very much. The Jellinghaus replicas are superb. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know them. We recently took delivery of a FE02 which is absolutely outstanding. Where are you based? We offer worldwide delivery so may be able to help you in acquiring one of these lovely guitars.

@@ClassicalGuitarAcademy Unfortunately I live in Brazil and importing anything above $50 USD has very prohibitive tax costs included. We pay double the price (sometimes more than double) ☹️

May I ask which string you are using here? My guitar is also a Torres FE17 replica and I love the sound you have here

The strings are the stock strings from Wolfgang Jellinghaus, which are listed as Savarez 500. They feel like medium tension so I would assume they are the 500AR set. It's a beautiful guitar with a remarkable sound. I think a lot of classical guitarists are rediscovering the beauty of the Torres style of making, despite having many other options available (bigger bodies, longer scales, lattice, doubletop etc). This guitar has an awful lot to offer and is very modestly priced given the outstanding quality of the instrument.
