    Kyle's trying to build a champion team. So if you want to sign with the Leafs, you're going to be signing a contract that's on the low side of fair value. Playing on a contender each & every year seems like a win-win.

      And Tavares already did, doesn't mean every player will nor should (Nylander doesn't have JT money or JT's past money already). We also may see a "discounted" contract, it just is higher then what fans wanted. McDavid's contract is very high but it is a discount by 500K minimum a year AAV.

      @@Burnsyx95 it's not the only contract. When this one expires, if he has a Stanley cup, he'll get paid handsomely for his services

      But, I'm not stating that the player gets low balled. Kyle has mentioned that he only wants players signing with the team if their in agreement with the teams philosophies moving forward. Which, I do believe, would be receiving low end fair value on contacts. If Kyle moves on from Nylander because he doesn't fit the plan, I think most fans would support him.

      Derek Walter brendan must have seen something in this kid from the beginning. Its takes someone very special and smart to be a gm. Let alone one of the maple leafs. He has that new era to him that works really well in our big market. He will one day go down as one of the greatest gm’s. Mark my words.

    If having to lose Nylander means we get to keep Matthews and Marner then so be it. Don't get me wrong I hope he stays but if he's being an I player and not a team player then you gotta let him go, maybe a trade for a high end D man.

    • @jimbeaver27

      Willy's good when playing with the good guys, but doesn't drive a line like Mitch. When Mitch was on the 4th line they were producing. When Willy was on the 4th they sucked. When Matty got injured, Mitch drove that line with Willy just like Matty drives it. We miss Willy and need him but not like if Mitch was missing the whole team would be flat. Mitch also learned how to forecheck well, whereas Willy's forecheck is weak. Willy is going to get much better but so is Mitch. We could trade Willy and just get on with it, but there is no way in hell we would trade Mitch or Matty, not going to happen.

    • @eila2088

      Mitch fookin Marner That's not how this works. NM signed two years ago when the salary cap was lower, had only two 50 and 1 60 point seasons to his name and pedigree of 1st overall. Wasn't look like the player he is now. Pasta got higher AAV for one less year with bigger cap a year later and he had 2 okay season and 1 almost ppg bonkers ones. Pasta's contract is looking very team friendly and cap has taken big hike so Nylander can very reasonable point out that he may not have the 70pt season Pasta did he has more consistency and cap has risen to get the same or higher AAV at 6 year then Pasta. He may also want a "fair" contract and see that Pasta's is not "fair" but "team friendly".
      Kadri had two mediocre years before his deal and got a partial NTC. He got his awesome 30 goal, 55-60pt seasons after it was signed. He also held out for his one year deal he got before the big extension. It looks awesome cause he almost doubled his goal count and improved his defence.

    Dubas has been excellent so far in the role of General Manager bar two major exceptions:
    1. Lack of acquiring good defenseman. Case in point is not signing Calvin De Haan (4.5mill was probably too steep but he is tops in league in shots blocked and only getting better). Another miss was an easy pickup of Dan Hamhuis (1.25 cap hit). For every "modern dman" you need a stay at home take care of your own end vet like Ron Hainsey. I am not sold of the mobility aspect for both dmen ... you have a puck mover/potential powerplay guy mixed with a halfwall/cycle/front of the net specialist. Toronto needs a cheap steady on the rudder guys like the guys in Carolina (Pesce, Faulk). Nylander and Leivo + picks for Pesce and Faulk.
    2. Not signing all three stars at once ... Marner is proving to be elite in all situations and is fast becoming the best Leaf ... better than Matthews. Nylander seems so far away now. Marner will want 10 and Matty 11 ... with our star quad (Tavares, Marner, Matty and Nylander ... that does not leave much cap space for signing Jake).

    • @evanderbiz-253
      @evanderbiz-253 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      dude those are not major exceptions lol... he signed JT. And he would sign all three rn if he could but AM and MM aren’t gonna sign before the season. They wanna play and put up better numbers to get a bit more $. De haan wouldn’t be a game changer. Neither would Ham. Leafs fans like you are cancer
