    This is a great resource Jay. Does the trip time account for the current? It looked as though it assumed the speed assumed speed over land - not speed over water.

      Corrections are not performed automatically for the effects of currents on route speeds and durations. This isn't possible because currents are only known at point locations and interpolating over larger areas would be error prone.

    This is a remarkable planning aid. First try planning a trip from Anacortes to Sucia. As I change departure times my enroute time stays the same. Why does the difference in current overtime show up as a change departure?

    • @JayAlanBorseth
      @JayAlanBorseth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Changing the departure time won't affect the enroute (duration) time, but it will alter the arrival time.
      I'm not clear what you mean by "Why does the difference in current overtime show up as a change departure?", can you please elaborate?

    I agree, this does look like a new version. I preferred the "old" view where one was basically looking straight down on the map, not at an angle as it appears now. The other issue I have is that I can't access the ability to choose 2, 3, or 7 days in advance any longer. It seems that this option is just barely visible at the bottom of the right half of the screen but I can scroll or do anything else to bring this option into view. HELP?? DeepZoom is a wonderful tool to have.

      To look straight down at the map, click the pitch/roll button in the very bottom right corner (looks kind of like a double headed arrow).
      If you click and drag you can rotate and pitch the map. (Holding down the control key when dragging with the left mouse button is another shortcut to this).
      If you just click it once, the view switches to North up and 90 degrees above view, which matches the "old" DeepZoom view.
      Regarding the timebase control (2,3,7 days selection): If you click on the time readout just above the slider, it should be visible. If not, can you please tell me the device you're using so I can try and replicate the problem?

      @@JayAlanBorseth Thank you for the prompt reply. Your suggestions worked just fine. I look forward to using DeepZoom this Friday for shrimping in the San Juans.

      Thx for the tip. Also, I’d like to register but it freezes and I can’t continue. Love Deep Zoom!

      @@thegoodoldways Can you give me more information on "it freezes"? Are any error messages shown? Did you receive the confirmation email? Thanks, Jay

      Also, under settings you can disable rotation and tilt completely if you uncheck: "Enable map rotation and tilt".

    Great trip planner. Are the currents used as part of the travel time predictions, i.e., if I can sail at 4 knots, does the app add or subtract predicted currents along the route? Or are the predicted travel times standard distance/speed calculations?

    • @JayAlanBorseth
      @JayAlanBorseth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately not. Currents are only known at a few locations and can't be accurately interpolated over a large area.

    Looks like a new version. I used have used DeepZoom extensively for the last few years as I fish and tow in the San Juans and Deception Pass area where currents can not be ignored.

    I love it...one suggestion the 3d to 2d is not very different

    • @JayAlanBorseth
      @JayAlanBorseth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      3D is really only useful in regions with large topographic changes, like the Kayaking Cordova demo (although it does emphasize smaller bluffs along the water nicely).

      @@norrispalmer3250 Each trip you load can have different default settings associated with it, such as 2D / 3D, and tilt / pitch enabled. You can disable rotation and tilt completely if you uncheck: "Enable map rotation and tilt" on the settings page.

      Also why does not the current date appear when opening fresh?
      Also your pear point reading between San Juan Island and Lopez...seems incorrect placement?

    I find this program clunky when trying to save a trip in the future. I change and save the dates for each route in a trip and it defaults to the current date. Not sure what the sequence of saving and editing needs to happen to save my future trips.

    • @JayAlanBorseth
      @JayAlanBorseth  ปีที่แล้ว

      In the "Trip Save" dialog, make sure you have "Include start date" set to "Yes".

      Since other's seem to have also found this issue a source of confusion, I've decided the next release will switch the default setting for "Include start date" to "Yes".
      Just to make this a bit more clear, "Include start date":
      "Yes": I want this trip to only start on the day I set, every time it is opened.
      (Note that you can easily change the start date on the Trips page.)
      "No": The trip starts on whatever day you open the trip. This option is useful for "public" trips that many different people may want to follow on any random day.

    When you sail to Hawaii directly or via San Francisco leaving the coast a few days later you don’t meet the same circumstances do you? So its based on an unrealistic modelling of distance vs time.

      There are very different current and weather patterns for each route.
