I love how you use a simple Home Depot tarp that most people have access to in a crunch. It always seems people making tarp videos use high end Sporting good store, perfect square tarps. I like the method and your use of the windshield sun reflector as a cheap pad. You are using materials people can get at the Walmart cheaply unlike the other vid makers who use stuff average people don't have ready access to. Thank you.
I do have the high end tarps as well, I just think that everyone should be able to enjoy the outdoors no matter what their economic status. Thank you for watching and commenting!
This summer I've been learning about knots, cordage, and tarp shelter. However, I am on a tight budget and wanted to learn with a budget mesh tarp, such as the one used here. In particular, how to make a diamond-plow shelter with or without trees using a rectangular tarp. So thank you for fully illustrating it.
Yes. The Plow Point is a great design. I set up a 6' X. 8' tarp to test during a recent windy rain storm. It set up in about two minutes, and kept me warm and dry. I was pleasantly surprised. For those without cam jam's, taught line hitches work well.
I learned a different 3-point tarp configuration that gives you a floor and a door. You probably already know about but it's really very nifty!! The side can be opened up to create a nice overhang to sit under during the day. But it all seals up completely when needed.
I enjoy seeing your earlier videos to see your humble beginnings to where you are today. You have more confident dialogue and still great content. God bless and keep doing what you’re doing 🙏🏼✝️🇺🇸⛺️
You have the best presentation of your videos that I've seen. This includes your clarity of sound ,presentation for understanding, enthusiasm and the whole nine yrds.
I literally JUST got home from the Home Depot with this identical tarp which I bought for hunting /shelter purposes... I wanted to see what configurations were possible with the 6x8 dimensions and BOOM... favorite channel here at Waypoint yeilds the results I am looking for !! Thank you James for all the time you put into videos for your viewers!
A good instruction video for this style of shelter. The plowpoint was the favorite of my Cub Scouts when we did the tarp shelter building class. That class was second only to the fire building class.
James, I've watched this several times. Interestingly, using exactly the same configuration for a Diamond Shelter set-up & replacing the polytarp with a canvas painer's drop cloth ; using natural rope/cordage & a rustic pole, I've have set-up & camped at historic Pre-1840 Rendezvous events.
@@WayPointSurvival Seriously though, my son and I have a remote campsite on the backside of my land. The only thing here besides the creek is a fire pit and an outhouse. Probably use something larger than a 6 by 8...but I like this setup.
@@JugglesGrenades Excellent! Sounds like a great place to camp out. This tarp set up can of course be scaled up to whatever size you need. However, a square tarp is easier to set up in various configurations. I just used this size in the video because they are cheap and readily available and it is the kind I recommend for my Phase 1 classes.
If you don’t have a tarp clip you can run a long from the base of the back stake along the ground staking it down flush with the ground folding the excess tarp under the line then using a stake at the corner grommet. This actually isn’t a bad idea to do anytime with a plow point as that fold over provides a good weather seal. A basic plow point should always be the beginning of your survival shelter, but the key to survival bits to always work towards improving your living conditions. Otherwise your just camping and not even in a simulated survival situation
Just stumbled upon your channel. Subscribed. Awesome content, Thanks. I live in Southeastern Kentucky, with all of the mountains, there's alot of places to try this stuff out.
Lars from Survival Russia did a video on showing the difference between having the reflective side up or down on the windshield cover. I keep mine down now. : )
I had some surgery during the height of the Covid scare , they used some really nice upgraded space blankets to keep me warm , afterwards in the recovery room I asked them what they did with the used blankets “oh we have to throw them away “ SCORE !! They went home with me , they currently reside in my bug out bag . 😂
@@WayPointSurvival I’ve got no clue , but they are significantly thicker than the typical Walmart variety space blanket. I’ve forgotten now if it’s one , or two of em . I’ll try to remember to pull em out today , if there’s a tag on them I’ll let you know the brand and manufacture.
I subd like your vids. I’m former military so if I could make a suggestion? Please roll up your pack webbing and electrical tape it. It would look better and not snag.
Yes, that's a great idea. However, I carry different size loads on different trips as I use different kinds of gear. So, I would forever be taping them back up on nearly every trip.
Lol! So much to explain.... Actually, not everyone has a lot of experience in the outdoors so I try to give adequate directions for the Bushcraft beginners etc. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I like the fact you can put them up in the house in a power outage. Duct tape works wonders for wood floors instead of pegs. Lol

Thank you very much!
Thumbs up, James!
I need to pick up one of those reflective pads. I saw some at our Dollar Store a few months ago... Thanks for the reminder!
It is a pretty nifty and lightweight piece of kit!
@@WayPointSurvival do you have to fold under because tarp not being square?
@@chadsims44 No, you can set it up just like it as a plow point.
@@WayPointSurvival so it would just have more length vs square tarp, thanks for getting back to me
@@chadsims44 that's correct
Great shelter. I will practice with my tarp. God bless you.

Absolutely! This is a classic configuration and pretty much the best way to get the most coverage out of a tarp whether it's square or rectangular.
Good set up option.
3 stakes, one pole some cordage - sounds good to me.
Thanks!
These older vids blow my mind it is SO weird seeing you without a beard lol
It is interesting how facial hair can change one's looks, isn't it? However, thanks so much for watching these older videos!
Great information and video sir!!! Blessings to you and your family 😇 🇺🇸
Thank you! You too, my friend!
