Arthur Fils has one of the most powerful and spinny forehands on tour. He's currently ranked 20 in the world, how high will his ranking go in 2025?

Maybe Fonseca’s Forehand and Backhand next?

Fonseca looked strong in Jeddah this week. I’ll definitely add his forehand and backhand to the list.

Wow, the elbow is higher than I thought. But the hand is high too, unlike Musetti or Tiafoe, whose elbow sometimes looks higher than the hand.

All great points on your end. High elbow plus a higher backswing than either Tiafoe or Musetti. Let's see what Fils can do in the 2025 season.

Another great video! Is it me or does Fils extended his left hand slightly forward into the court instead of parallel across his body? I could see this helping to hit the ball out in front.

Thank you. I went back and just took another look at it. Looks like you're right, the non-hitting arm isn't 100% parallel across his body when he reaches out. Good eye :)

How about the João Fonseca forehand?

His forehand was huge in Jeddah. I’ll add it to the request list.

Great analysis as always. That cobra wrist position is getting very common as you say. His forehand looks a lot like Musetti. He does generate massive speed and rpm's. One question I have concerns his lag/tip flip. His racquet head is well behind his elbow as you point out, looks even more so than Sinner as you point out. It looks to me though that Sinner gets more lag though that Fils from a perspective of the racquet shaft to forearm at at maximum angle. Sinner in other words to me looks like he gets way past a 90 degree angle, racquet shaft to forearm? Also, watching the Next Gen Tournament going on right now, Fonseca seems to have an even bigger forehand than Fils, who is also in the tournament. Maybe analyze his technique next. He seems to to that Alcaraz Fed Nadal technique where his head really stays sideways during contact, which seems to be a reactive brake type thing which really flings or slingshots the racquet head through the ball more efficiently?

Thank you. You make a really good point about where his racket "starts from" compared to Sinner. You're 100% right that if you measured that distance with the maximum "tip flip" position that Jannik might be making a bigger overall move. It might be time to put them up side by side ;) I appreciate you pointing that out.
I was watching Fonseca this week along with you at the next gen finals. I was shocked how big he was hitting his forehand, especially in the semifinals. I'll definitely put him on the analysis list. Great suggestions by you, enjoy the holidays.

@TennisUnleashed Yes it looks like to me Sinner at his deepest lag position is way less than 90 degrees, maybe even at 60 degrees or so. It is quite a lag angle, racquet shaft to forearm. Merry Christmas to you also.

His fh really looks like Gulbis’s fh in a certain way tbh

The old “eagles wings” Gulbis forehand. Definitely a few visual similarities between the two.

what I dont like about his forehand is that it looks like SOOOO much effort, even more effort than someone like Nadal. Sinner is the perfect example of giant forehand while looking effortless(allthough his shape is not 10/10 for me) but my point is that all that JANKING Fils does seems overkill to me

All valid points. He's doing an awful lot of work to generate his power and spin. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

@@TennisUnleashed an upside to all that effort (if you're into that sorta stuff) is that dude is absolute JACKED, he's huge for a tennis player and looks like an nfl running back

    western forehand?

    • @TennisUnleashed
      @TennisUnleashed  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

Great question. His grip is pretty far over, but I'd still probably say semi-western based on his hand position on the bevels. It could be between semi and full western with his base knuckle.
