  • Casa Galicia is a Spanish/Celtic organization based in Astoria, Queens. Galicia, in northwestern Spain, is made up of people of Celtic origin. The Celts brought their music, dance and bagpipes or "gaitas" to this region. This is the first time Casa Galicia marches in the St Patrick's day parade in NYC. They are very proud to be a part of it!

My father was an Asturian, and tears would fill his eyes when the Spanish bagpipes would play.....He lived to be 103 years old......The vast majority of Cubans like myself are Asturians and Galicians, followed by Catalonians and Basques....All of the above groups are from Spain, but Cubans are of many other nationalities, races and ethnic groups as well......
The Celtic genes of Northern Spain are not known by many people here in the United States, and neither is the scenery and climate of that part of Spain, which is also known as GREEN SPAIN......
The climate is cold and wet, and is the same exact climate as the British Isles and Normandy, France.....It is called OCEANIC climate, and it keeps Northern Spain lush and gorgeous.....Old Havana in Cuba still has the old Centro Asturiano, and Centro Gallego cultural centers with their beautiful architecture.....NICE TO READ YOUR COMMENT.....Sierra Cuban, Miami, Florida, U.S.A.

Both last names trace back to Galicia and both sides are extremely European in looks. Miramontes grandfather is 6'3" light skinned and Ortega grandfather was 6' with blonde hair and blue eyes. I found out that nueva Galicia was Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and Guadalajara. Both grandfather were from Zacatecas. I still have family in jalpa. I just want to know were in Spain they came from for sure.

Acela Paliotta - hello. I am an Irish Bagpiper and absolutely you are correct. The connection in music and culture between the Galicia and a Ireland goes back to pre 1100 at least. A lot of Irish people don’t understand as there was only a Gaelic revival in Ireland in the 1800’s after centuries of the attempted annihilation of the Gaelic Irish culture. The pre cursor to the modern Irish Mouth Blown Warpipes/ Great Irish Warpipes, was a Gaelic Bagpipe almost identical to Galician Bagpipes. Thanks for sharing.

Breogán is the name of a Celtic king in the territory of present-day Galicia, according to the Irish traditions collected in a compilation of the 11th century, the Lebor Gabála Érenn (Book of the Irish Conquests), which narrates the various invasions that the island would have suffered .
According to these manuscripts, King Breogán built in the city of Brigantia, located in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, a tower of such height that his sons could see a distant green shore from its top. The vision of that distant land led them north to Ireland, where Ith would be killed. In revenge, the sons of Mil (Míl Espáine, soldier of Hispania mentioned in the Book of Conquests, grandson of Breogán and nephew of Ith) sailed from Brigantia to Ireland and conquered it.
The 11th-century Irish anonymous authors who carried out the compilation related the Breogán Brigantia to the Galician city of Brigantium, which according to different versions could have been La Coruña or Betanzos. [Citation needed] In the 19th century, the myth was spread by romantic historians Galicians, [who?] who even came to identify the Breogán tower with the Hercules tower in La Coruña (next to which a statue of Breogán has been erected). [citation needed] Similarly, Breogán is represented as the mythological father of the Galician people (sometimes, Galicia is poetically described as the "fogar" or "nazón de Breogán", as in Os Pinos, the Galician hymn, based on the homonymous poem by Eduardo Pondal).I AM ASTURIAN, AND I HAVE MORE PINT OF IRISH, THAT OF, I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR IDEA HAS OF SPANIARDS, ONE THING IS HOLLYVOOD AND ITS FUCKS LIKE THE BASQUE PEOPLE WHO ARE MOSTLY CELTATIC, ALTHOUGH THERE ARE CELTIBEROS OR IBEROS WHO DANCE FLAMENCO JAJAJAJA NO AND ANOTHER IS BETANIA ANDALUCIA, THAT THERE ARE ALSO CELTIC BEES, BUT THAT IS ANOTHER HISTORY, CERTAINLY I AM THE TYPICAL, ASTURIAN CELTA AND SPANISH SKIN CLEAR, HAIRED, ARUBIAN, AND LOOK LIKE MELIBE, MEL GIE JOKE IS SERIOUSLY, JUST THAT I HAVE THE EYES COLORED HONEY, HAHAHAHA SPANISH TYPICALIS, NOT TOO HIGH HERE I'M A NORMALITE 176CM, PULLING DOWN A THING IS WHAT IT SELLS YOU AND ANOTHER, THE REAL THING.READ ABOUT THE HISTORY OF SPAIN AND THE PROTO ESPAÑA OR HISPANIA BISIGODA PUEBLO GERMANICO, AND IBERIA, CERTAINLY THE FORMER BRITISH WERE LIKE US WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THAT YOU HAVE A CONFUSION BECAUSE THE NORMAN AND VIKING INVASIONS, CHANGED THE PROFILE OF PERIL I DID A GENETIC STUDY AND THE IRLADESES HAS THE SAME GENETIC CODE AS THE NORTHERN SPANISH GREETINGS, POXA ASTURIES

The GAULS was the name given by the Romans of the Roman Empire to the CELTIC PEOPLES who penetrated into the Iberian Peninsula, ( Spain and Portugal )
    before the age of Christianity.......
Many CELTS were recruited by the Roman Empire as soldiers when that Empire absorbed Spain and Portugal, which they named HISPANIA which means " The land of rabbits. These are all malapropisms of a sort, the key term is Feine (Phoenician) and they are the founders of the sun temple worship and *actually* are stemmed in Ireland, the genealogies are reversed. Hebrew is a form of Gaelic and the bible itself is Irish, everything stems from there.

    1. Those costumes are genuine traditional Galician. The red they used to use in Casa Galicia were a Franco invention.

    • @MAMRetro

You are correct. They're supposedly Hittite - the ancient peoples of modern day Turkey. They were adopted by the Roman army to march into battle. Then the instrument spread into all former Roman colonies, including the British isles and northern Spain. Today European nations from Scandinavia all the way to the Middle East have some sort of bagpipe tradition.

@@MAMRetro There is no proof about what you're saying. There are bagpipes in Iran too. The word Gaita, Gaida and Gaide (which are called in many countries) comes from the Gothic word for goat, from which bagpipes are made.

Such an ignorance is shown in this video's decription. The romans introduced bagpipes to europe (the damn instrument is asian)... How is posible that the "celts" went to north spain with their bagpipes when that happened before even the roman empire was a thing.. Oh boy... Talk about not having a clue...Bagpipes arrived spain through the romans, same than the rest of europe. That is why bagpipes are even more traditional in spain than in ireland, simply because they arrived first....

+Roi Cervinho Dictionary definition of "Spain": The English term referring to the Iberian penninsula, otherwise know as "Hispania". Mind you Portugal was once part of Spain, but they gained their independence. Still, their relationship was nearly identical to that of Scotland and England. Divided yet brothers In a way. That being said, Catalonia is spanish, Castillians are Spanish, and though the galician are celtic, they still live in Hispania
