- Welcome to our third installment of our JFK 2024 plane spotting trip, which took place back in September. This video features plane spotting from both Bayswater Park and the TWA hotel rooftop. This video has a mix of 13R takeoffs, 04R/L landings and takeoffs AND 13L landings. Not to mention over 70 different airlines, various governement jets and countless different types of aeroplanes!
Some of the key highlights is the Turkish Government A340 and A330, Japan Airlines new A350-1000s and more!
John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), located in Queens, New York City, is one of the busiest airports in the United States and serves as a major gateway for international travelers. Situated approximately 15 miles from Manhattan, JFK is strategically positioned to handle a significant volume of air traffic, making it a vital hub in both domestic and international aviation networks.
The airport features six active runways arranged in a parallel configuration, designated as 4L/22R, 4R/22L, 13L/31R, 13R/31L, 8/26, and 9/27. This setup allows for efficient takeoffs and landings, accommodating the high passenger volumes that JFK typically sees. The airport handles around 60 million passengers annually, placing it among the top three busiest airports in the U.S., alongside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD).
JFK is a major hub for several airlines, most notably Delta Air Lines, which has a significant operational presence there. Other airlines based at JFK include American Airlines and JetBlue Airways, which is also headquartered in New York. International carriers such as British Airways, Emirates, Lufthansa, and Air France further contribute to the airport's extensive global connectivity. This diverse airline presence underscores JFK's importance as a key player in international travel.
In terms of global rankings, JFK typically falls within the top ten busiest airports worldwide. In 2019, it was often ranked around sixth in terms of passenger volume, a position that can fluctuate yearly due to various factors. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport remains the busiest airport in the world, consistently surpassing 100 million passengers annually, while Beijing Capital International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport also rank closely in the global aviation landscape. JFK's combination of runway capacity, airline presence, and international traffic solidifies its status as a critical hub in the aviation industry.
The intention behind the video is to showcase this world class airport in all its glory from different vantage points from around the airport. JFK is not the easiest airport to view the planes from but it is not impossible and I like to showcase that in the video!

Excellent presentation!
(One correction: JFK has FOUR active runways. 8/26 and 9/27 haven’t been used since the airport was called Idlewild in the 1960s. They may be marked on the Jeppesen charts, but they are never used.)
W location!
