    About liquor stores in the US: each state does it differently, it's kind of dumb. In some places, you can get everything including spirits/hard alcohol from grocery stores, others have separate ABC stores, (Alcoholic Beverage Control), and some places you can only purchase alcohol on certain days or times, like not after midnight or not at all on Sundays.

    • @taytay.dayday
      @taytay.dayday 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, like in Wisconsin you can get hard liquor at the grocery store but when I visited my grandparents in Texas they had to go to a liquor store

    • @CrownedLily
      @CrownedLily 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it all depends on the towns that each store is in too. In my hometown they built a super Wal-Mart and couldn't get approved to sell liqour from both the town it was built in and the bordering town as I guess the back of the building extended over the town border.

  • @NickBlethrow
    @NickBlethrow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Some of these are probably fairly common in any Anglosphere country.
    Grog (originally a mix of Rum and water) was an official part of the daily rations in the Royal Navy and carried on into the early US Navy. Rum rations continued to be offered in the Royal Navy until 1970, the Canadian Navy until 1972, and the Royal New Zealand Navy until 1990.
    We don't really have anything comparable to a Ute in the US any more. The Ford Ranchero was cancelled in 1979 and the El Camino was cancelled in 1987. For a few years in the early 2000s the Subaru Baja was basically a Ute but it didn't last long.

    Omg I knew what grog meant because we use it in Swedish too. We can both use it to say alcohol-ish. Like we can say "Ska vi ha lite grog?" which would mean "should we have some alcohol"-ish. This may be a regional slang from where I'm from though. I'm pretty sure my brother has said it a lot. Sometimes we use it instead of like pub or bar. So like "Ska vi gå på groggen?" which would mean "Should we go to the pub." other than that I think I've heard it be used in English in a sentence such as "I'm feeling a little groggy"

    • @JustSaralius
      @JustSaralius 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think technically, a Swedish "grogg" is a mix of alcohol and what's called "grogg-virke" (like grog material/matter?idk) which is like a juice or something to make cheap booze drinkable. So basically a not-so-fancy cocktail. :P
      But grog is originally an English word.

    • @Yuikarie
      @Yuikarie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh my god, it's so funny that in Australia, grog means alcohol! Actually grogue/grogu (in creole) is drink made of rum, water and sugar very popular in Cape Verde, and some have lemon juice (like poncha from Madeira Island, Portugal)… other ingredients are like rue, rosemary, fennel or even goose neck barnacles (*disgusted actually just thinking about it*)
