Ok, let’s explain the law in the state of Alabama. No person shall willfully fail or refuse to comply with “any” lawful order or direction of any police officer invested by law with authority by the state of Alabama.
It was a lawful order. On city or county property especially. When them folks say you gotta go, YOU GOTTA GO! You don't have a right to keep playing music after a game is over. Stop it.
While watching the video, my first thought was what are our young folks supposed to do? Here they are playing their instruments and having harmless fun while being told they have to leave. But when they are out on the streets causing havoc, we talk about how bad and horrible this younger generation has become.
Ok, that makes no damn sense. They can't stay there all night, especially if they are not at their school. The area has to be cleared, this is common practice
Y’all missing the bigger issue. There was a disturbance at the game that caused them to shut it down earlier. I mean can’t y’all see the other side damn near cleared out already. What is wrong with us as Black People? No standards

Anyway, about 5 - 10 minutes after the games, we "sweep" the field by forming a horizontal line walking the field, then through the stands to push the crowd towards the exits. Police are there, but usually around the exits & parking lots. We also use this tactic for Cowboys games, concerts, etc. While some people like to linger, they get up and move, bands/cheer teams start packing up to leave. I think that might be possible poor communication between them... Since one band director stop and packed up... Maybe the guy trying off the lights thought the other band director would also....
Plus, it's usually not the police rhat are turning the lights off. Most of these fancy pants stadium lights are on a timer, but if not the case, it's someone associated/employed by the stadium/city/school district.
The police don't control the lights, the grounds keepers do. The police said the grounds keepers were getting ready to turn the lights off so they needed to go. He didn't listen thus leading to this result.
An event that had ended with people refusing to leave. They were trying to lock up. The world doesn’t revolve around some people like most want to believe
This is the main reason people dont like police... YOU see any disruption until they show up. Nothing is out of order. everyone having a good time until the cop show up!
@@BaldFury1 Being in a band is not a crime. If they would of lost control of the situation the 1983 lawsuits would be on them. You can't just tazze someone for contempt of cop.
@@HighRisksatx No, is not a crime to be in the band. How ever the school district came put and said the "do not allow 5th quarter" play. Their focus after the game is to have everyone leave. 18 minutes after the game the band was still playing in which the Cops had to enforce. A staffer (black woman) that worked at the HS was telling Mims (The BD) to stop along with the cops. The best thing to do in that moment is to stop as told and leave. Mims decision put everyone in a bad decision. There was no need to tase him just as there was no need to keep going.
You're glossing over the fact that he was told multiple times to stop playing. It doesn't matter if that's the standard that you're used to. Do you want to live in a society where people are allowed to make their own rules and not follow the law? I think this situation escalated way more than it needed to, but that band director is also culpable for how it played out.
You do realize that, other school districts may have policies in place that differ from the one you may be use to. Did that ever cross your mind? When you tell the police to get out of my face, mutiple times and you defy them. It's not going to end well. That I guarantee. I'm just glad the cops where all black in this case, because otherwise, Benjamin Crump would be involved.
If the cops are telling you something and it’s not a lawful order and you are not breaking the law, it does not matter and you need to stop teaching people that you need to look up on the law and see your constitutional rights you’re telling them just because you’re black you don’t have constitutional rights and that’s not right
I told you this dude was lying when he came on Rollin show! He was trying to ONE UP on the other band because Minor just got Black students about 5- 10 years ago. They use to be an all White band! He went down there trying to be tough and he F around and found out! They don’t play! He endangered the children’s lives and set a bad example.
People have to be careful. Why did we only get one bodycam? Why was the footage we were provided edited to have commentary all throughout the video? The captions are meant to guide your thinking in a way that is advantageous to the police. Where is the bodycam of the person who did the tasing?
He didn’t do anything illegal, though he can tell whoever he wants to get out of his face that’s perfectly in the right of the law. If you’re not a law scholar, you shouldn’t speak on this subject.

In most cities, there is a fee to participate in band. Allow the children to play. The police missed a perfect opportunity to develop a strong relationship with the children and the community. Instead of a gang, they are part of a band. They could have issued a citation. Police officers need to put their egos aside.
Smh when are we gonna stand up for each other. We know our culture don’t go alone with the police when we know we in the right. Smh it was a high school band playing at a high school football game. Nobody called the police and said it was a crime happening.

@@eightyoneisme that’s the issue. The band director wasn’t resisting. He was doing his job. And there’s no rule or law that state they couldn’t keep playing after the game was immediately over. Yes that what we expect from people in authority to show real leadership but that’s not what we get because they’re not trained to deescalate especially when the situation only make sense to do so.
@@king53070 Was the band Director a person in authority? Shouldn’t he shown all of the students how you follow directions and listen to authority? Ask yourself why aren’t we talking about the other band that was there? It’s because they know how to follow directions.
The Band was on their last song and already stopped (after a few short minutes) playing by the time the officers went back to confront the Band Director. So the subsequent approach feels like it’s retaliation for not immediately obeying their orders and legally exercising his 1st Amendment right. Officers essentially got what they wanted regarding the playing to stop but they couldn’t deescalate because their ego is bruised.
That's it in a nutshell!!! Plus, all the students remained the stadium b/c all the cops were getting the ""bad guy"" out while protecting each other from the crowd that they enraged!!!!
You're parroting laws that apply to white people. Those protections don't apply to us because we aren't considered citizens. And if you don't die from the encounter, very little will happen to the cops. If you die, he might get fired.
The Alabama University band director didn't provoke the mistreatment he received. There was literally no crime being committed. Apparently, not many people know about the "5th Quarter". It was wrong to begin with by sending the cops to disperse "black people" because they can!!🤬😡😠😤🤔
I am a former dance squad member (college) and former cheerleader (high school). When the games end, it is a madhouse with people EVERYWHERE. The idea that the entire band, dance squad, cheerleaders, majorettes, etc can somehow plow through the crowd and get everybody in the group back on the bus when the spectators haven't gotten out of the way yet is naive at best. For the sake of making sure nobody gets left behind, it really is best to let the crowds clear out of the stadium first, and then the band can leave as a single unit. While waiting for the crowds to thin out, the band plays, which is fun for them, and lets the young people have something positive to do. This is something the police probably don't understand. If they did, they would be THRILLED to let these young people play until the band director thinks enough people have gotten out of the way that he can get them all on the bus without anyone getting left behind. When the band leaves the game, they don't just walk to the bus the way people walk to their cars. Everybody is still playing their music, and the dancers march, strut, and/or dance. Not only is it fun, but it serves another purpose: it keeps people from wandering off. Waiting until the crowds are gone means nobody cuts in between members of the group, so the whole group gets to bus as a unit without anybody going missing. It would be an absolute nightmare to expect the band director to herd a bunch of teenagers through a mass of spectators who haven't left yet and think everybody's going to make it to the bus without somebody accidentally getting cut off from the group (or purposefully leaving the group to say hi to a friend or to respond to a taunting comment made by the opposing team). You play in the stands as people leave, and you keep playing as you march in formation until you get to the band room or the bus. While it was tactless and not very wise for the band director to respond by saying, "Get out of my face", it was equally stupid for the police to decide to tase him after being told that the last song was being played, especially when the director clearly ended the song. Other videos have said that police officers maced the kids in addition to tasing the director; if those allegations are true, then at that point, the Birminham officers were really just power tripping at that point; their feelings were hurt because the band didn't leave as quickly as the police wanted, and the police responded in a childish but dangerous way. Both sides need to find a way to do better.
The crowd was GONE also the home band was GONE .THE only people left was this band.and how come no one is asking how long after the game we're these people still there playing 3 minutes 5 minutes 15 minutes I think that fact will tell us just who was being unreasonable
Roland being way too hard on the director. Anyone knows you ever walk up to a director and start distracting him while he's conducting and you might well get smacked. The easy solution from the cops position is to just have the stadium staff turn the lights on, turn their flashlights on, and start walking down the aisle letting the kids know to exit out to their left. Some will start to leave, and just wait for the band itself to finish and then walk them out. It's not that hard to be a chaperone. They just wanted subservience to authority, and Roland reinforcing their power trip is a reinforcement of the perpetual violence our communities face. You should absolutely have the right to disrespect a police officer, they should know how to interact in a situation like this creatively that solves the problem without harming anyone and minimizing overall harm already done.
LMAO I know I shouldnt laugh but my mans was STILL playing the song even in the dark, now THATS commitment, he wasnt gonna let them ruin the fun. Also LMAO at all the screaming when the lights went out like it was a horror movie LMAO!😂
I’ve been in band in high school and college. Even as the visiting band we only stopped playing when our director told us. My son is in band now and the same applies.
Too much to unpack. Why keep playing knowing the dangerous environment of this society. I don't like the arrest but if the police were called to remove the band what are they supposed to do if the Band director refused to stop playing or leave?
The song ended 2 seconds after the lights went out because that was the end of the song. He didn't instruct them to go longer. Maybe I only understand this because I played in the band. He never committed a crime. He was prepared to finish the song like it was written. That particular arrangement of "Neck" is done by most SWAC schools and can be easily searched. Saying "Get out of my face" is not illegal.

What you see are the last minutes of the incident! He was told multiple times before this video began to stop playing and head for his buses. This is why the other band is gone which was the home school. Mr. Mims was totally out of line. They had excessively exceeded their time! Mims was responsible for the band and the police were responsible for the stadium and everyone in it.
Okay.....He didn't stop the band from playing right away when commanded to do so.Understood. Was his refusal grounds to tase him 3 times ? I don't think so. He could've been arrested without the tasing.

I don't understand why this band director did any of this foolishness. The other band left when instructed. There is nothing to me that defends the band directors actions. He was being disorderly, disturbing the peace and being a public nuisance. The cops could have handled it differently too though. He was acting like he wanted to be arrested, so why did he do all of that resisting? They didn't have to taser the man, but lets no pretend he wasn't being defiant. I really don't understand his reason for making the band continue. Like he was power tripping over his band members. Nobody gets to stop until he says stop??? WTF. Is this the example he's been setting as a band director? I wouldn't want this fellow setting that kind of example for my kid. Defiance without a cause isn't rational.
You do not stand in front of a band director as they are directing the band. You can't even walk in front of a band when they are performing. If you talked to the assistant let the assistant convey the information to the director. Don't bypass them and then stand in front of the director.

Roland is completely wrong name a law the police officers were enforcing prior to them putting there hands on that brother.
I’m curious as to why the police were there in the first place. Were some of them hired as off duty security or were they called? In one instance they’re working on behalf of the school and the other as responding law enforcement. Did they have the authority to shut the stadium down as representatives of the school. I doubt there’s any law regarding delaying the closing of the stadium. If there’s a policy regarding “5th quarter activities” for it to be a law it would have to have civil or criminal penalties. So were the directives of the Leo’s lawful?
There are no "unanswered questions"! To watch this group continue to scratch for a reason to blame the cops is just stupid. I have lived my life speaking out against racism.... and it's truly sickening to watch these people twist themselves trying to find guilt with the police. WTF?!?!?!

I guarantee had this been a non melanated school no one would've been tased. This behavior, by law enforcement, makes no student show respect for law enforcement. Lights off should not have happened since students were still in the stadium. Bad response on ALL sides.
Based on the band director’s behavior, telling the cop to get out of his face (repeatedly), even if the officers used deescalation techniques I believe the band director would have still resisted, because he was already worked up with a bad attitude. Some people just won’t comply, even when you’re trying not to arrest them, and when things go south to blame others for their bad actions.

The band had stopped playing when the officers got rough with him. There was no reason for him to be tased three times. He could have died for that. Ignoring the cops is no reason to rough up or kill him.
The band director set a poor example for his students, and should probably lose his job. Not only that he endangered the students lives! He set a bad example for his students.
Actually Roland the cops approached the band directors disrespecting them and shouting. Roland you sir are wrong on this one. Who runs the school? That's who has the authority. They wanna empty the stadium stop playing.
The cops feelings were hurt, a non violent event none of the cops were in danger

3:05 at this point we needed the female narrator who narrated the Alabama Brawl with the sound effects 😂😂😂😂
His ass should have been tased. I’m so tired of my people acting like they are above the law. He should keep the charges he has and be fired. He is NOT a good role model in this situation. These kids are already disrespectful! This does not help.
They had no legal right to take him to jail
He did said the other band was participating and you can see them in the background, across the field. As he said, this is acceptable comradery after the game and with other bands.
The other band Director didn’t get arrested. He has some since and knows how to follow instructions.
@@kogybo And, who are you boo-boo? Ask yourself the question why the other band director wasn't arrested while he was participating too!
@@Thisistheday3He left when he was told, you fool.
Sometimes they have a short battle of the band during games BUT they just don't turn the lights off when ppl are still there.
People stop making excuses for the police 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 very Sad
They weren't wrong in this situation tho 😂😂
@@VABuckeye94 All these racist Karen talking back to the police on TH-cam man please dude 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@johnnyb8399 just because it's on TH-cam doesn't not make the exception the rule 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
@@VABuckeye94 what are you saying
Roland you're wrong on this one. He can tell the police as many times he wants to get out of his face that's call freedom of speech 1st Amendment. If the police comes on your property with out a warrant you tell them many times to get off your property. You can cuss at the police, give them the middle finger it's free speech under the constitution. Now should he have left? Yes he should have the game is over I understand that they have the 5th quarter or whatever game is done go home. The police could have handle it a little different sure. It's black cops and this is how they do Black people they wouldn't have done that to them people.
They shut the lights. All parents should SUE for endangering their children's lives
Actually Roland the cops approached the band directors disrespecting them and shouting. Roland you sir are wrong on this one. The officers weren’t explaining they were shouting at the assistant director. So you expected Mim to kiss their ass. The cops turned of the light while stands were still full. There was no lawful reason for them to arrest him period for the band continually playing. The officers job was to then report the Directors actions to the School District. Roland you sound like the cops. The cops were agitated upon approaching the Assistant Director you hear the shouting and disrespect just as well as we do. The band director has every right to say “Get out of my face” it called freedom of speech. Now was that a good example for the children No. However, do we know the history of him and these officers No.
You are correct. I think that Roland seems to be making excuses because the police officer was black.
I agree. Just let him finish and then arrest him without violence.
The band director asked for this.
How so ?
@@michaelbabb4947 it was time to go. They shut off the lights in the stadium which meant time to go and everyone else left but them. They guy was overtly disobedient and disrespectful. When a cop says do something you do it. The cop wasn't saying anything illegal nor does that stadium belong to that director.
Talk about earning the hate.
Ya'll Trippin, Those police handled that wrong! I say sue the city and the officers. The Band director will have his in court. They were wrong as to left shoes.
Which video did you watch...
Has to be the one where the lights cut off and then you just him getting tased...
