It's certainly not my idea of grim either. I reckon I will do a really run down layout with boarded up shops, council sink estate, canal with trolleys in it etc.
Chandwell, dodgy but with charm and character. We love it and the stories you share with us about it. Looking forward to seeing your cathedral build this year. Bill and Janet from California
It's all fantastically well observed, Michael. Apart from your great ability to cut and stick together minute bits of paper and card, your abiity to look at things and understand the details that give them character is astonishing. Thanks for all the videos. Tom (from France)
I think in the fullness of time, Chandwell will get its own Cathedral - well - possibly a pop up tent 🎪where one of the 'buildings' has collapsed (again) 🤣😂🤣
Chandwell - under-estimating how grim I think the north is :D Kidding, of course, worked in Leeds & Halifax for a bit years ago and I made it back down south in one piece so it wasn't that bad. Amazing layout!
Mate this whole project is a credit to you. Well done, love all your buildings, they are all No1 to me. Happy New Year and looking forward to more of your great builds in 2025 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year and thank you for all of the great videos! As a genealogist I have family connections to Bradford and West Yorkshire as well as Lancashire so I find the historical content interesting. As a scale modeller and theatre prop maker I've enjoyed seeing your techniques. I am in the process of designing a layout based on the North Staffordshire Railway between the years 1886 and 1914 when my 2nd cousin 4x removed George James Crosbie Dawson was chief engineer. I was fortunate to be able to assist members of the NSR Railway Study group in material for an article in their journal 51 written by Mike Fell. In return I was given contemporary photos and copies of engineering drawings signed by George for improvements to Etruria Junction. Your introduction of inkscape and how you use it to plan out your models. Thank you as well for the great tips for modelling on a budget. I'm looking forward to seeing what you create next year.
Most layouts look to have a handful of really good focal points, but for you to have got so many great features, in such good detail despite the small scale is a testament to the time and effort you put into a hobby in your spare time. And with the cathedral project on the side, you truly are an inspiration for folk both inside and outside of the hobby! I, for one, cannot wait to see what 2025 has in store! Happy New Year Michael 😀
After about five years, this was the first time the trains ran without me spending more time cleaning and fiddling with the track; it made it a much more enjoyable experience than it has been in the past... so who knows... we may see more.
Happy new year to you and your family Michael. The cathedral work is outstanding and a testament to your skills but I have missed the Chandwell stuff. Me and the missis have booked a long weekend there for our anniversary 🎉!!!
@ I was wondering about that! I thought I might have done something wrong this end and it had disappeared. Great premiere though Michael and maybe a full scale Chandwell live one day? Also hope Sita gives you some tasty freebies seeing as their place got number 1 👍🏼, cheers Michael and Happy New Year!
Yours is one of a very few railway model-making channels which guarantees inspiration and admiration. Your creativity with Inkscape is amazing, nothing I could hope to achieve, but your inexpensive use of card and Scalescenes textures is wonderful to see as Chandwell evolves into a superbly realistic town. You have great ability at presentation and a friendly approachable style. The series on Bradford Cathedral is excellent and means that your work will reach a wider audience which it deserves to. Keep going exactly as you are, your skills, determination, vision and humour are to admire. I do hope channel numbers rise, yours is one of the few very best I watch. Superb!
Thank you once again Michael, it is always a plesure to visit Chandwell again, I hope Sita won ! I voted for the curry house ! A good long while back now, I had an idea for a Chandwellesque train because Chandwell being Chandwell the most surprising trains can turn up, unanounced. ( I have never been sure if the idea was a good one or a duff one) But there would need to be witneses to the strange train. Michael, Chandwell needs a gaggle of N scale train spotters at the end of the platform nearest the signel box, with their N scale Ian Allen books !
Gutted I wasn't able to be around for the premiere, but that was great. I always like these opportunities to revisit all the amazing sights in Chandwell. Amazing work as ever Michael. And Happy New Year.
Glad you enjoyed it! The Premier was over q bit too quickly. I thought the chat would stay open but it did not. Will have to use it on a longer video next time.
This video is a proper walk down Memory Lane, and even stranger is, other than Bradford, I haven't visited any of these definitely real and not cardboard buildings. Is there a word for nostalgia for things that haven't existed? Happy New Year Michael and good luck with the Cathedral.
Hi Michael, I've been thinking about your comments re 3 floors at the front but apparently 4 at the rear perhaps the odd windows are actually for allowing light into dark stairwells, I have seen this from the inside on occassions. HappyNew Year, Harry ( the back of my head is seen in the clip from the Catherderal talk )
Yes, I think there are stairwells going on there, but even accounting for that there are some other strange things going on... It's really fascinating. And it's great having the back of your head as a permanent feature in that video! Happy New Year!
Michael Great Chandwell 2024 Top 20, along with the other building projects like Dye Drying Works, Bradford Cathedral. Plus the expansions in the Chandwell Universe, via BBC, Bradford Cathedral and Scalecences. Looking forward into how The Cathedral Building fits into 2025 Bradford’s City of Culture. Whatever is in store for Chandwell, in 2025 good luck and please keep us all updated on this journey. All the best in 2025. Ian
The town looks fantastic... I think sometimes the videos are deceptive as they show close ups of the buildings, you don't realise just how tiny the N Gauge models really are!!! One thing - i'm new to Chandwell, so have been watching some old videos... Re the grafitti... does Chandwell not have a football team and a rival town... would be good to see some grafitti for the local team. 😁
@@Chandwell You should put it out to all your viewers, who would no doubt come up with far wittier names than I... but quick list... Chandwell Locomotive F.C. Chandwell Thursday F.C. Old Chandwellians F.C. ...not sure if there is a colliery near Chandwell, but being a Yorkshire town I thought there probably was! 😁
First of all. Your models are incredibly brilliant. I can’t believe it’s all N scale. But when is the model set around. 70’s, 80’s? I wish I could have been there for the live stream
Excellent but it looks rather underpopulated in the finished areas. Not enough automobiles, either. My German protoype N scale layout set in about 1967 must have a least 500 people in it (I've long ago lost count) and many, many period cars and trucks inclduing classic Citroens, DKWs,a Tatra 603 and even a Morgan 3 wheeler. I'm a classic car guy too. This is an awesome layout and I'd like to see your overall track plan.
Thank you! I always like the "Excellent but..." comments. You are right of course, but I will continue to do what I enjoy, which is making buildings for almost no cost just for the love of making them; I can't justify spending money on cars and people at this time. The Chandwell track plan is based on a curved version of Bradford Interchange from around 2013. There is a video about the track plan here if you're interested... th-cam.com/video/-9ksK56bF7c/w-d-xo.html
"Not as grim as you think it is" still makes me smile. Great work as ever and thank you for sharing your magnum opus .
Thank you indeed!
That line had me in stitches. 🤣 So funny! (... and sad, too.)
It's certainly not my idea of grim either. I reckon I will do a really run down layout with boarded up shops, council sink estate, canal with trolleys in it etc.
Come on now Michael... Its a lot grimmer than it looks mate... Happy New Year to you and your family 🎉🎉🥳🥳

Enjoyed it a lot. Thanks so very much for doing this, and ALL THAT YOU DO TO SHARE WITH US ALL!!! Incredible.

Great tour around your amazing layout. Happy New Year Michael 😊 cheers Euan
Happy new year Euan! Thank you very much indeed!
Exceptional year for you Michael especially the talk in the cathedral, I hope 2025 will be as good for you 👍🏻
