Respect to the guy for sticking his stance on not being friends with your ex. The logic is that if you ask a male ex if he would sleep with you without any strings they will likely say yes. If you ask a female ex shes more likely to say no. The caveat here is that both of these people have likely seen eachother naked so that barrier has been broken already and once you've gone that far you can't repair that barrier with the same level of strength as it originally had. The boundary is maintained by the woman in almost all cases. The temptation just needs a little bit of a spark or some drama with your current bf/gf to make you think you were better off with an ex in that moment of weakness. You don't take a recovering alcoholic to a bar when they're feeling down. The wise thing to do would be to stay away from bars at all times. The 'moment of weakness' aspect is more prominent in women due to hypergamy and feelings largely driving their decisions. All it takes is her to FEEL unwanted or unloved and ending up going for a drink with her ex and that barrier turns paper thin, even if your bf actually wants and loves you very much but isn't showing it in a way you understand.
