It's a welcome shock when you upload. Wish you uploaded regularly but I'll take what I can get 👍 I mentioned this once on a video of yours a few years ago, watching your videos and hearing you talk takes me immediately back to my childhood in the early 70's. Guys who specialized in electronics who talked and looked a certain way, much like NASA guys in the 60's or Radio Shack guys in the 70's. Except for you and maybe a few others, you don't see these type of guys anymore, sadly.

I was strolling though a bunch of videos and instantly noticed this one because it belongs to one of the few TH-cam channels to which I subscribe. However, I immediately assumed it was from a number of years ago since dh4683 has been virtually inactive for the last few years, but I nevertheless took a closer look at the date - and it's from...yesterday?!! What a pleasant surprise. Anyway, I just finished watching it and, as usual, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love old TV's, radios and all the wonderful devices from a bygone era that you, dh4683, bring back to a deserved life. So, I'm sure I'm joined by many others who truly hope your next video comes out in a month or so - and not years. Thank you.

There's something very cool about old tube TVs, they seemed to have a lot of character to them. Plus the sound was pretty amazing, and there was no need to buy a separate sound system like we have to do with HDTVs now. You do incredible work on these old appliances!

Zenith was a sponsor of Bewitched. They had one like this stand and all on one of the early episodes of Bewitched in Darren's home office. A lot of people in them days had only one TV. Having a TV in a home office showed his upper status as a white collar worker other than the hard working blue collar worker.

We had this model in our TV store. Whenever a set had to come to the shop for repair, this was the set we used as a loaner. It was kicked, shoved, and abused in many homes through the years and just kept on working. As all Zenith's, a real workhorse. I, too, was surprised to see the transistors soldered into place. Unlike Zenith for sure. Not knowing the real reason why, maybe it was because Zenith thought it to be so reliable, they didn't need to have them as a replaceable part. Never sold this set; after 10 years as our loaner, I ended up giving it to a friend who could not afford a new TV. He has since passed away; don't know what happened to the TV.

My step dad bought us a new 23" Zenith b/w tube console that used those exact control knobs on it. It was almost all tube however but had a crisp bright picture. We watched the moon landing on it in 69 and we watched it as the family set into the late 70s when I was fixing and selling TVs myself and built us some color sets. I guess we probably got it in late 68 early 69 and it always looked excellent except for when a video drive tube went bad. I tested it at Radio Shack and we bought a lifetime replacement tube for it. After that it looked like new again and I think we finally gave it away to a friend needing a set probably about 1979.

Glad to see you back. I'd like to see a video on a Zenith 16Z7C50 chassis. I may have made it known that I got one of those last year with a 23 inch CRT that is shot. The last person to service the TV didn't put the socket back on correctly. The back slipped as as I was taking it off. The keyway broke and the tube lost vacuum. The drive controls were set high. I assume I finished off a tired CRT. It is super rare here in West Virginia to see a TV beyond the mid 80s.

Very interesting video. I always loved these old vintage 19" black and white sets. I used to have a Zenith tube type set, actually two. One was color and the other black and white. Unfortunately I do not remember the model numbers because I was only in high school and never paid much attention to those artifacts. The black and white Zenith was sold to an elderly lady that needed a second TV and the color Zenith was junked because the flyback failed. Now I have two solid state identical black and white Zeniths, probably the cascade model because they are solid state. They are both 19". I also have a color 19" Zenith that I repaired. All it needed was a new power cord and it works superior. I definitely want to get more videos made and uploaded so I will definitely include those Zenith televisions. Just a quick reference if you wanted to check; the black and white Zeniths have a silver control panel with a black strip on the left. That's where the volume, brightness and contrast controls are and the VHF and UHF tuners are reversed from yours, plus the numbers are white on the dials. I don't think these had pilot lamps and the UHF tuner clicks with a separate fine tuning knob on the outer portion.

I cut my teeth repairing these consumer staples, didn't see this solid state model but did run across a 1970 14A9C50 (SAMS 1079). It was not fully SS, but hybrid having the same solid state IF strip sub chassis and an integrated circuit chroma demodulator. I had earlier seen the 1965 25MC36 (SAMS 805) so the advance of just a few years was amazing.
