From my understanding the director messed up the movie entirely with CGI and other VFX. There was about 70 VFX shots in the original cut but the theatrical had over 400. All it did was erase the practical effects and storytelling suffered because of it. The movie doesn't get enough credit for paving the way for other comic book movies.

It would be pretty interesting if instead of his brother coming back, they bring a other Jake Sully in an avatar body from a brain scan prior to meeting the navi, so he's still team human and can act as a spy and stuff
