    Seeing the most powerful rocket ever created launch perfectly synced with one of most hype songs in existence is something I definitely didn't know I needed, but that just made my day. I can't wait for the day we go back to the Moon, step on Mars for the first time and, who knows, even beyond.

      Not to be that guy, but SLS isn't the most powerful rocket ever created. SLS has 8.8 million lbs of thrust at launch. This beats Saturn V's 7.7 million lbs, but only at launch, as the latter could exceed 9 million lbs at medium altitudes during the 1st stage burn. The Soviet N1, though unsuccessful, did produce over 10 million lbs of thrust before exploding. Lastly, there is flight-capable hardware sitting on a pad in Texas right now with 15 million lbs of thrust. Starship's super heavy booster has so far done 14-engine firings but has 31 main stage engines total, with enough thrust to shatter all records, and it's built and being tested as I type this.

      As theq said, the Saturn V's launch was kind of anemic. A great display of power, but it fits more with orchestral music. SLS, on the other hand, takes off like a bat out of hell, and fits well with hard rock vibes

    God, the launch of Artemis 1 felt like the conclusion to an underdog story. All the hate and misunderstanding with the SLS, and the stupid “SLS will never fly” trope, I was one of the few people rooting for the SLS, and that launch just felt fucking magical

      @@josephc.9520 space programs are actually one of the few cases where tax payer money is well spent
      all of your GPS, internet, communication, etc are all done through the efforts of space programs (primarily satellites), giving money to these programs is what gets you 80% of your facilities so i would say thats pretty worth it, atleast when compared to most of the other things that are funded by tax money
      additionally, artemis' launch is gonna be what paves the way for future space exploration since before artemis, the space exploration scene has been super vacant and not been explored at all, i would say thats pretty worth the money

    To think that we’ve gone from huts and stone carvings to sending humans into the vast cosmos is incredible.
    We’ve taken images of distant nebulae and stars that we once thought controlled our fates.
    We’re on the search for alien life as we understand that we may not be alone.
    It’s incredible how far the human race has come.

    Watching this video gives me chills man, watching all the complicated machinery on the launch pad and the thrusters adjusting as the songs ramps up just makes me think about how insane humans are. weve gone from literal sticks and stones, to giant machines that use fucking fire to shoot heavy ass payloads beyond anything any ancestor could have dreamed of.

      Those solid rocket boosters are over twice as powerful as the F1s on the Saturn V.
      Couple that with the lightweight hydrogen fuel and 4 space shuttle engines, and you’ve got yourself a rocket that takes off like a grasshopper.

      iirc Saturn V started off with a TWR of about 1.1 (going up a tenth the speed it would fall) while SLS is about 1.5 (half the speed of falling)

      Every time i see that initial sight of it hauling ass off the pad, i rerun the exact same view of the Saturn V.

      Holy jumping fvcking sh¡tballs LOOK at that thing rip! I saw the launch live, but absolutely did not appreciate just how fast the thing was accelerating.
      Ive watched this video 1000 times now, and have yet to get tired of seeing it.
      It reeeeally hammers home the Power-To-Weight ratio of the two rockets. And puts the evolution of rocketry separating them, into one hell of a perspective.

      It's quite literally true. The SLS is basically just bolted together from unused Shuttle parts, some of which have been modified, upgraded or made longer. The capsule is from the last Shuttle replacement program.

    50 years ago, it was thought that the very last rocket being sent to the moon would launch. With the recent Artemis 1 launch, we are giving it another go at putting people on the moon, possibly permanently. This video fills me with an energetic hope that I can’t describe.
