I saw this on Sunday. Really enjoyed it (Dewayne Perkins and X Mayo were the standouts for me) and yes so many black specific references that will just go over non-black people's heads.
"Very smart and very knowing?" Are they articulate and clean too?
Thanks Alonso for being so fair and open minded!
What we mean by that is that the humor is very clever and self-aware. Thanks for watching.
I was wonder if you would be reviewing this…
Just watched it today. Between The Flash, Elementals and this movie this weekend, this is the best of the bunch. I would give it 9 out of 10. The jokes were funny. The only way it could be better is packing in even more jokes. The movie was not too long, and the pace is good.
Normally, I would just chuckle at jokes. But this movie got me laughing out loud, clapping and howling. Probably my favorite comedy this year so far.
You're right Christy. There's a production value that's missing from this movie. But the acting and writing is great, from a black person. 😂
Really glad to hear this is good. I love Horror-Comedy. We don’t get enough of that genre.
They all can't die first, but if someone's wearing a red shirt... 😱
My Favorite movie of the past wkend i liked that u two reviewed it 👍👍
I do agree about the character development and the cinematography film was very dark in a lot of cases
Love the flash clip of making red Kool aid with a bag of sugar & vodka.....our go to party punch for some day drinking always
Great review bro.
I was hesitant, but yall make me wanna see this, and I'm brown so hopefully, it'll be nice.
This made me run to search for your What the Flick review of Cabin in the Woods
Ms Christy looks much better when she talks live than how she looks in that thumbnail.
As a Black person, I enjoyed this movie but it's not worth watching twice, it's totally forgettable. Great review guys ❤
I've been excited to watch this since it was announced, glad it's good!
Tim Story is like the black Judd Apatow, his movies are only as good as the comedian he's working with
4/5. Tim Story’s best 🎥. Was pretty packed in my theater. Bunch of the audience (including myself) were audibly going “goddamn it” & “oh shit” 🤣🤣🤣. Jermaine Fowler, Dewayne Perkins, X Mayo and Grace Byers are the cast MVP’s.
Very Yummy Breakfast! *SUPER SUPER FUNNY! I am not even Black.😊 I made a movie review about this movie and I can't stop laughing while I'm doing it. The Blackening tackles important social issues with its clever commentary on blackness, identity, and stereotypes. A must see movie!*👍
The cliche about black characters always being the first to die in horror films seems like a myth. I could be wrong, but I can't think of any examples, and I challenge anyone else to name even one, excluding this one.
👍🏽
A rather lame movie with no clear direction. The central idea of this movie is not clear and the movie just lacks any cohesiveness. After the start the movie just struggles for an idea to take the plot forward. Also there are just too many plot holes to allow the the viewer to take anything seriously.
There was some attempt to interweave Black cultural references into the screenplay and every character was given different traits like one has white dad, one is aspiring hip hop artist , one voted for Trump etc etc but neither does it fit in the plot nor is it done emphatically enough to leave any impression. The cultural critique is just flat.
A sad and disappointing effort from Tim Story who directed two of my favorite superhero movies Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four Silver Surfer.
He had the very basic idea for a good spin on the slasher genre but there seems to be no effort to develop the plot in an interesting and intelligent manner.
A 2/10 from. Very disappointing.
It's so difficult to see movies with a big audience bc someone will invariably be on their phone
Solid first ⅔; trash final ⅓.
Why? The 3rd act is more standard horror/slasher troupes, but they still managed to put some jokes in. But I would not say it’s trash.
Ms Christy looks much better when she talks live than how she looks in that thumbnail.
Thanks for covering this. It got almost no marketing push. Even if it doesn't make a ton of money, it's a chance for the young cast to get more exposure.
Sleeper hit?
Thanks for watching!
