Most staff at Japanese arcades will actually do this if they see you put enough money into the machine. After a certain point they want to make sure you don't leave frustrated, and they'll set up the machine to be easier to win.

Really shows the difference between the two arcades. In this one, they didn't even have to ask. I wonder if there is some policy in place to keep an eye on players and if they are still at the same machine after X amount of minutes or X number of attempts to help out
@@Skye_Writer Pretty much every arcade in Japan will do it, but how often depends on the particular staff member and how busy they are. If the place isn't that busy and it is easy to keep track of specific customers, then it is easier to provide assistance. If the place is busy and you aren't drawing attention to your agony by not being overly expressive, then it is quite easy for a staff member to just assume that you must be doing "okay" and keep walking. Don't forget that the staff have to keep patrolling and restocking machines after almost every win, so it is quite easy to just not notice that a customer has been at a single machine for an ungodly amount of time.

The thing I like the most about this is like, yeah, crane games are rigged to make you spend more but the staff WANTS you to win, they want you to have fun they're so sweet
The difference between these crane game places and actual casinos is that the crane game staff are trained to effectively give you the prizes once it is clear you have spent enough money at a machine to clearly be profitable. They want you to keep playing other cranes, not get pissed off at a single crane and then not come back. Online crane game sites even go so far as to program the "assist" as a guaranteed thing after using X amount of plays. The only issue is when it comes to the truly decent prizes on relatively easy to conquer machines, where "pro players" farm the prizes for scalping. This is usually countered by only letting one prize out of those machines per player per day. When you are putting in $60+ for a $10-15 anime figure, it is in the store's interest to just give you the figure so that way you are more willing to do the same to another machine.
Connor (and the people he brings) get more assistance than a usual player would because he is a frequent player that is highly recognizable. When staff see you coming in relatively often and dropping TONS of money each trip, they know that being more liberal with the help will pay off in the long run, regardless if the money is being drained on that particular crane or not. They also see the cameras and know that they are effectively getting free advertisement. The more that the influencers win, the better that the store appears as a good place to win prizes.

42:50 To answer CDawg’s question, Aloe Vera gel is used to help heal burns. Living in Arizona, we actually grew an Aloe Vera plant that we would apply directly to our sun burns. I guess since Connor is from Britain, he hasn’t had to worry about needing any Aloe Vera.

I would argue that, being from Britain, would mean he would need aloe vera way more, because the pale skin burns more easily. At least I, as a Norwegian, have a long relationship with aloe vera and sunscreen. I get burned a lot every summer. (and britain surprisingly gets very hot and sunny during the summer. I did not expect that either when I went there at the beginning of June one year.)

As a claw machine owner, let me tell you how these things work
There are 3 stregnth settings
They are labled by Vr being Variable Resistor
Vr1: This is the stregnth when it first grabs the item, usually set this to a high number to grab it
Vr2: This is the stregnth at once it reaches the top, some people like to set this to a high amount to make it more convincing, others like to make people rage and set this to an extremely low setting
Vr3: This is the stregnth at which it is moving, usually set to a really low value
Pay To Win: There is a dip switch on the mainboard that enables this, It will be weak until the set amount of money has been put into the machine at which point it finally switches onto high power and you will win no matter what unless you are really bad at crane games. This is the mode we use when placing machines, so yes, they are rigged.
Are you talking about traditional American cranes or Japanese crane games? It would be cool to see all the different types and to see how every single one differs in terms of payout/strategy.

Just skimming over the comments the last two weeks, I have come to this conclusion. The helpful member of staff needs her own TH-cam channel because she's obviously outshone the bois in this video.
Plus everyone wants to see Connor go up against Aki in a crane game contest and have been building her up like she's the Chuck Norris of crane games. I feel this would be a very interesting challenge ☺️☺️☺️
So for anyone who hasn't studied Japanese UFO games as much as I have, I have some tips. First off, let gravity do most of the work. Use the claws to press down on items and roll them, as opposed to just picking things up. Claw machines tend to randomize their grip strength so maybe 1/10 uses they will be strong enough to actually lift something and carry it more than half a foot before releasing the grip and dropping the item. Get the item as close to the exit gate before trying to pick it up. Also, when doing boxes aim for corners, not the center. Use the claw to press down on corners to move items rather than lifting them up in the middle. If a plushie has a tag, then don't try to loop the claw through it as it will likely drop and slide off when being picked up. Finally, it is OK to swoop in and steal someone's progress before it is reset by an attendant. If you see someone wasting 1000 yen before walking away, that is 1000 yen closer to a win and with the right tactics a cheaper win for you. Watch people in the arcade play, see their tactics, wait for them to give up and then take over.
