Putin was dealt a strong hand and managed to play himself into a weak position. Twenty years ago Russia was on a roll. It's interesting if you plot Russian and Norwegian GDP against oil prices, the plots look almost identical. But Norway managed to parlay that into the second highest Human Development Index in the world, just slighly behind Switzerland. Russia ranks at #56, well below, say, Greece at #33.
Russia squandered the money coming in enriching people with political connections to Putin. It could have used its economic power to transform its cultural connections to places like Ukraine into soft power, instead it chose to meddle in their politics, to bully and intimidate it's neighbors so even the most stubborn neutral of them decided they'd be better off in NATO.
Really the only thing that approaches Russia for stubbornly bad decision making in modern history is Japan heading into WW2.

Consider the progress of the Russian army in 2024. During this time, they have captured .13% of Ukraine's territory and it's still being contested. Russia has lost 45,000 (KIA) soldiers in 2024. At this rate of "progress" it will take Russia 384 YEARS to conquer ALL of Ukraine and it will cost an additional 34 MILLION Russian soldiers their LIVES. All things considered, RUSSIA is not WINNING. How long will it be before Putin loses power? The Russian population is 1/2 of the USA population and during the past 2.5 years Russia has lost MORE soldiers in Ukraine, than the USA lost in ALL of its Wars in the last 79 years. That includes, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Grenada, Iraq 1991, Iraq 2003 to present, Afghanistan 2001 to 2021. Face the facts, the Ukraine invasion is a DISASTER FOR RUSSIA. At the moment they burn female prisoners, amateur mercenaries from Africa, Cuba, Nepal, SriLanka, amateur soldiers from Eastern Ukraine, Asians of former Soviet countries etc.
The air is really getting thinner and thinner for Putin - on the ground less and less able staff, and many specialists (pilots, air defence staff, electronic warfare staff) were killed, which only can be replaced after years.
He can of course send "anybody" to the frontline - BUT remember 2.WW: Nazis did send millions of soldiers to the frontlines in 44/45, called "Volkssturm". Older, teens, women, whatever ... with almost no effect. And in 2024 such types of soldiers have even less effectivity than 1944, as the military technic is now more complicated than in 1944.
If he sends 500.000 new "soldiers" for every single one there are waiting 2-3 drones to explode directly in their undertroucers.
And in Russian society most people are not willing to give their life for Putin. Just look at Dagestan, they already started rebellion and attack police stations, killing many policemen. And most killed Russian soldiers in Ukraine were from Dagestan.

British defence spending is clearly far too low. 75,000 soldiers with poor recruitment records are nothing more than a token effort. We should be at least doubling the army number along with appropriate equipment. That’s not being considered by the folks who run the country. Hence Labour and previously Conservatives have effectively done nothing.

You people are ridiculous! I bet most people who subscribe to this channel are ignorant and don't know that the "Russian Collusion" claims were FAKE.
Also, I bet that most people here don't know that Hunter Biden's laptop WAS NOT a part of Russian Disinformation like the 51 former American intelligence officers attested to in a letter.
I mean, Col. Philip here doesn't seem to know. Otherwise why would he be spewing nonsense like there is some relationship with Trump and Putin. If Col. Philip and the viewers and people commenting here did know that all the Russia accusations against Trump were faked, fraudulent, and a bunch of lies, saying that there is "something" going on with Trump and Putin is asinine and has no bearing in reality. Let's not forget about YOUR Imam though:
In 2012, during a nuclear security summit in Seoul, President Barack Obama was overheard on a hot mic speaking to then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Obama told Medvedev, "This is my last election. After my election, I have more flexibility." Medvedev responded, "I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir."
Who has "something" with Putin again??

Just look at the way Starmer and his team ran the election campaign and compare it with the utter clown show from the Tories! In fact if you compare the qualifications for the jobs the cabinet have from the previous Tory cabinet its clear that the Labour front bench are head and shoulders better qualified for the job than the Tories were.
