When I first saw DOA2 running, I had a hard time believing it was all running in real time, particularly the cinemas. Also, the lack of load times was something that I still find amazing to this day. The stages transition to new areas seamlessly, as do the next matches. It's just all so slick, it looks like it is running on the Dreamcast effortlessly. It was one of the first games I ever played that simply made no compromises based on hardware limitations. No loading, no popping in textures, no blinking polygons. From a technical perspective, it is absolute perfection.
@@darinherrick2503 It was and still is because the DC port had anti aliasing and the PS2 port heavy jaggies. Later on Tecmo released DOA2 Hardcore on PS2 with some extra costumes but if i remember right even this port was inferior to the DC version.

Capcom vs snk 2 and street fighter 3 were a tad bit better on PlayStation 2 other than That Dreamcast had the better ports usually for 2d fighters. I think in terms of capcom fighters Dreamcast had a ton. If we’re talking in general ps2 has much more fighters. The only ps2 fighters for capcom that was on ps2 and not on Dreamcast were capcom fighting evolution which was just decent. And then street fighter ex3 which I never played yet and I think that was about it 😂 I play cvs2 and sf3 on ps2 but those are on Dreamcast as well so there not unique to ps2. But snk, Namco, midway and other companies were killing it. King of fighters series for me was at its prime on ps2, tekken series, soul calibur series, guilty gear x2 and accent core, bloody roar 3 and 4, virtual fighter 4 evolution, mortal kombat series. Dragon ball z fighting games were in there prime. But for some reason capcom abandon fighter after capcom fighting evolution. Now capcom was killing it with adventure games but they abondend fighters but then returned with sf4
@@armorwolf7934 No, Capcom vs SNK 2 was better on Dreamcast. The PS2 port ran faster than the arcade version (which actually affects he game's meta), and had censorship (no blood, religions references removed, etc). It's better than the GameCube and Xbox ports, but the Dreamcast port was arcade perfect.
A great list indeed, but I was surprised not to see either of the Powerstone games make your top 10. For me these remain standout Dreamcast titles which represented everything that was great about the system. Incredible graphics, great mulitplayer action and a unique style of gameplay which you just couldn't find on any other console!
I hooked up my Dreamcast to a VGA projector in my high school classroom. I started it up with Soul Calibur. As my students walked in the class, they asked if it was Xbox One or PS4... I then proceeded to win 23-0.
@@saadsaif821 It seems you like Fighting games ... Definitely agree about Tekken 3. On top of looking good on the PS1 It also had so many extras in it.
Love the Saturn and Dreamcast. Both consoles keep giving once you start playing the Japanese exclusives. It's like finding a whole new console to play. Just finished the fan English translated Napple Tale for Dreamcast. Another great video SLX!!!
I Love Power Stone and Power Stone 2 also, but I consider them Arena Brawlers more like Smash Brother's than a traditional Fighting Game! So mabey they did not get Snubbed! :) anyone with a Dreamcast and never played E'm check Them Out 100% Recommended! You won't regret it!
Didn't power stone lack an actual "tournament" progression or story? I feel like I remember playing it as a "pick your fighter, pick your opponent" setup and that one minor irritation has always been enough for me to dislike a fighting game, it's petty, but it's kind of the unspoken standard in my opinion. Or maybe my brain is fried and i just made that up or am confusing it with another title.
@@fistfullofglass Power Stone 1 and 2 was just like any other arcade fighting game. It wasn't a household name like the Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom but it was still a fun game to play and probably one of the first fighting games to utilize full 360 fighting arenas or stages.
The Dreamcast was my favourite console, period. Great graphics, arcade conversions and it knew what it was. However, it never stood a chance again the BS-fuelled hype that was the PS2. Soul Calibre was stunning. Nothing could touch it at the time. The first fighting game where it didn't look like a bunch of polygons.
This man needs 100,000 subs for the constant quality of his vids. Thank you Sega Lord x. I woke up sick as hell but these vids do help. Keep up the awesome work.
Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur. There is no contest! I'm acqually quite shocked thay you only placed Dead or alive 2 at number five. It was fantastic in every way and when I go back to playing the Dreamcast I either play Soul Calibur or DEad or alive 2 depending on how many friends I have with me....Honourable mention to Mortal Kombat Gold!
The DC is just console perfection - it literally covers every genre that was popular at the time. I absolutely knew SC would be number one - when you talk about what a "next gen" experience actually is, then flash back to 1999 when you would see SC running on a kiosk. There is absolutely NO WAY you were not blown away by the visuals. It was eons ahead of the arcade version, and as you said, still blows away in 2020. In fact, I dare say the DC era is the last console era that "wowed" me. That true next-gen advancement has never been so powerfully obvious in any subsequent console release since.
Agreed. The Dreamcast's graphics really blew everyone away 20yrs ago. To this day games like Shenmue, Soul Calibur and Skies of Arcadia still look incredible to me.
Decent list. I know it had to be hard to find 10 games out of the amazing library of fighting games the DC had, though if I were to make a small change, I would've swapped out Plasma Sword for Power Stone. There was no other game like it and I would've put it on the list mostly on the concept alone along with how well it plays.
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike is my favourite game of all time. Shame the Dreamcast version isn't a port of the tournament standard arcade revision though. (Unblockables that made characters like Urien and Oro more viable were removed).
Sadly the Dreamcast version also has about 3 frames of added input lag, so even if it was based on the correct version it would still likely have that problem.
It's also 480i by default which doesn't look so good, but if you hold L+Start when it boots you can play it in its native 240 double strike mode. Unfortunately scaling to 480i was common for 2D fighters on Dreamcast and PS2.
Great video. Brought back a lot of memories from my DC days when I was living in Japan. Loved Soulcalibur, DOA2, Cap vs SNK, and Marvel vs Capcom 2 as far as fighters go. Never had any of the others mentioned and now I see I missed out on quite a bit.
Man, yours like the hardest working gaming channel on TH-cam, how you produced 20 minute length video filled with production value in just short 3 days is beyond me.
He probably should have mentioned it never got an official US release. Not on the Dreamcast anyway, the US would have to wait for the PS2 version as well as some weird GameCube version called like Capcom vs SNK 2 AO.
Soul Calibur, what an introduction to this glorious system. To see Namco deliver this masterpiece on it's long time rivals system was truly the stuff of dreams and made for an unforgettable introduction to this generation.
I miss my old Dreamcast and that wicked arcade stick with the green buttons. So many amazing fighters Thanks Sega Lord X, this brings back the memories.
I remember back when the dreamcast first came out i didn't think it was anything special. Then a close friend of mine bought one and said "you've got to see this" so a group of friends and I were at his house and were playing power stone, virtua fighter and soul calibur. Back then we were used to seeing graphics on the psx and the graphics on the dreamcast were absolutely amazing. the very next day I rushed out and bought one with one of the best games ever made...yup "MORTAL KOMBAT GOLD!" The Sega Dreamcast truly was an underrated gem. An amazing system with perfect ports of sega arcade games and such a shame it died. RIP :(
Not a song I don’t like on the soundtrack, but I could totally understand why someone wouldn’t. A weird jazzy soundtrack isn’t exactly what I’d expect from Marvel or most Capcom games
Yup. SLX must have missed that. He caught guilty gear X being exclusive to Japan. (It wouldn't come to the US until the PS2 version) Ironically just like guilty gear X we wouldn't see Capcom vs SNK 2 until the PS2 although there was also some weird GameCube version. I think it was something like Capcom vs SNK 2 AO.
OMG SLX!!!! I cannot tell you how grateful and excited I am that you made this video. I’ve been patiently waiting for this one. Sega Dreamcast was a fighting game players DREAM, no pun intended. The DC had a MASSIVE influx of fighting games. Thank you, and be blessed my brother. Top 10 fighting games are...... 10. Virtua Fighter 3tb 9. DOA2 8. Soul Calibur 7. Virtual On Orotario Tangram 6. Power Stone 5. Project Justice 4. King of fighters Dream Match 3. Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves 2. Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike 1. Capcom VS SNK 2 (import) I was 16 years old back in the year 2000 when the original CVS dropped, and just when I saw Capcom and SNK get together to make a crossover game, my teenage mind was system overload BLOWN to see the two mecha giants for 2-D fighting games crossover. I also agree that you’re right we need a 3rd entry already. Thank you SLX.
Not on this list but I definitely enjoyed the first Capcom vs SNK on the Dreamcast. The game has lots of replay value to keep it going, you can collect EX points and spend them in the shop to unlock EX characters, secret characters, new game modes etc.
Great video! Man, the Dreamcast had 20 or so awesome fighting games -- I still cycle through and play most of them from time to time today! If it can be counted as a fighting game, I rate Power Stone 1 very high just for its fun factor. I have played that game so much with friends over the years. Outside of the top 10, there are some really fun games as well that I still play a lot despite their flaws -- most notably Tech Romancer/Kikaioh, and Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram. Those two games (alongside Project Justice) are about the most archetypal late 90's super-Japanese game experiences we got over in North America... and since I was deep in the anime scene at the time, I just ate that stuff up.
Aw, no love for Tech Romancer? That was one of my favourites. Kinda surprised 3rd Strike didn't make the cut! Also I know I'm in the minority but I preferred CvSNK 1 if only for the shop. Much like Marvel 2, I spent dozens of hours grinding to get shop points to unlock characters, stages and music and loved every minute of it!
I would have Power Stone on there. I got the game on launch day with my Dreamcast - along with Sega Rally 2 - and played it to death. Many happy memories from my student days playing that game with my mates. Loved Soul Calibre also and wouldn't disagree with awarding it top spot.
Great list, man... i'm glad to say i've played most of these games, it was so cool (and nostalgic) to see them all again! Can't wait for the Saturn version...
Sadly I sold my Dreamcast and games in 2006 for a mere $100, however the guy who bought it wound up burning out the fan after a month of use. Upon hearing and reflecting on that, I realized I got more than my money's worth out of it.
Nice list. I prefer Capcom VS SNK Pro over Capcom VS SNK 2 and i even prefer KOF 99 Evolution over KOF 99 Dream Match. EDIT: Kinda strange to see Alpha 3 in here, i mean that i'm shure that you are aware, that the Saturn version was superior.... IMO you should switch it with Vampire Saviour Chronicles but HEY, it's your TOP 10 list, not mine. ; )
@giftofgab247 They are both different but I would have to go with SoulCalibur on the Dreamcast simply because the home port was such a gigantic upgrade to the arcade version.
There really isn't much point in playing Soul Calibur I if you have every other game in the series. Hell, even Soul Edge/Blade had content that you couldn't find in later releases!
@@SegaLordX Thanks for Clarification. I always wanted a Neo Geo, but the systems and games are very pricey! And it seems like most if not all of the Neo Geo games are ported or emulated to other systems like the Dreamcast, PS4, etc. And for much cheaper! 👍
This is a very elite top 10 to crack. Honorable mentions: Marvel vs Capcom 1 Street Fighter 3: Double Impact Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Power Stone Power Stone 2 Mortal Kombat Gold Psychic Force Virtual On Tangram Ontario (sp?) Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves Sega always had an arcade mentality. Sega always seemed to ignore the "made for home" market compared to Nintendo and Sony. Most of Nintendo's exclusive hits were "made for the home" and would stink as arcade games. But Sega owned the Arcade-Style market.
The fact that stuff like Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, Power Stone 1 or 2, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure aren't on this list show's how deep the list of excellent fighters are on the Dreamcast. And I'm sure it'll be the same when the Saturn list comes out too.
I find making a Top 10 so much more difficult than making Top 20's or more. You really need to hunker down and discriminate everything to do a top 10. You just can't throw every decent game in it and be done. In a top 10, something deserving always gets left out.
Great choice of first place fighter. Soul Calibur still remains impressive today, and gameplay is always winner to me! Somehow i can't get used to the graphics of Marvel VS Capcom, as the sprites are low res, and the background high res. I wish they upped the resolution of the fighters to match the background, and if that would push the system to far, lower the resolution of the background and upper the resolution of the fighters to meet halfway. Now for me, it looks like some cartoon flat characters are fighting in a different game's background drawn in 3D.
Awesome vid SLX. Never had a Dreamcast but I ALWAYS knew it was a beast of a console. I was a PS2 person and although it had it's share of fighting games, the DC had amazing fighters that you could only get there. Cannot wait for your Saturn Fighting Top 10 vid. Great content as always.
Would love to see you do a video on the Top 10 Sega games to not be released on a Sega console. I say this as someone who grew up on Sega consoles (Master System and Mega Drive) but didn't own any other console between the Mega Drive and PS3. Some games I made sure to hunt down when I got my PS3 included Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3 and Daytona USA.
OMG SLX! Soul Caliber for Dreamcast at $40 on Launch Day is something I still marvel at. That is truly an amazing game that still holds up to this day... and I still re-visit it often! 👍🎮 another fun vid! Thanks!
All of these games are awesome, but it was DOA2 which finally convinced me to buy a DC because of the impact of the attacks. Tecmo timed the animations and sound effects so well that you could almost 'feel' the hits from weak punches to full body slams. This is something which Itagaki put extra emphasis on and after he left Team Ninja the DOA series lost that visceral combat feel.
VF3tb was the fighting game of choice for us back in the day (since we had played the hell out of VF2 on Saturn), all the way until VF4 arrived on PS2. I still think AM2 should have kept the uneven terrain in some stages of 4 and 5, as I simply loved the concept. I had played VF3 in the arcade shortly before, and the port was pretty close for a launch game IMO. Visually, I think DOA2 easily takes the crown on Dreamcast, with Soul Calibur being a close second. And KoF Dream Match 99 is absolutely gorgeous in its own right. I've never seen more subtle polygon backgrounds with "hand-drawn" textures on them ever again.
Lets See...on my Asian DC I had MvC, SFZ3, Star Gladiator 2, Power Stone, and Kikaioh. I didnt get Soul Calibur upon release as my friend had a copy for his DC. I wound up getting the 2nd release of DOA2 import because they were supposed to improve the graphics from the USA release. The releases on DC were so awesome that they released the Dreamcast compilation of the King Of Fighters Nests' Saga for import PS2. Amazing!!
DOA2 absolutely blew me away back then. It was silky smooth and looked like CGI in real time. It didn't even have loading screens (DOA2U did the same thing later on Xbox)! Since then I always wonder how can fighters have sometimes very lengthy loading screens. Shame Tecmo let the series take a nosedive since DOA4. I swear 5 and 6 still uses the same animations as the older games.
This is the most sega lord x video of all sega lord x videos live it as i am a huge fan that like many is aware of the whole selection of games on the system.
The Dreamcast was the greatest console of all time for fighting games and only now it feels like we are in a new golden era of the genre. For me Capcom vs SNK 2 is still my favourite video game of all time and so glad it's coming back.
Power Stone 2, SF3 3rd Strike, Last Blade 2, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Fighting Vipers 2, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure all missing the cut. WOW. I know it speaks to the quality depth the system had in this genre but still…
I was never a Sega person in the Genesis and Saturn generation, but the first time I saw Soul Calibur in action that changed, I just couldn't believe those were in-game graphics, it was too good to be true, so I just had to have it, it's now one of those awe-inspiring moments in my video game history
As a fighting game player and fan, this list was awesome! I honestly believe he could have switched the order of these games and I'd still 100% agree with him! The dreamcast was a treasure trove of awesome titles! Awesome video Sega!
Fun video and good to hear your thoughts. Also, it's an interesting exercise in pitting the two machines. There's a solid case for either one depending on your criteria. Dreamcast has lots of RAM so there are fewer compromises to make. But I'd pick the Saturn because I preferred the fighting games from the period the machine was out over the Dreamcast and later fighting games. For example, I didn't like the direction Capcom took with later games. I was not fond of their art direction starting with Alpha, some of their music choices, their 3D backgrounds, and even the announcer in Alpha 3. That's all a matter of taste, and it just didn't suit mine. I saw King of Fighters '97 in a shop -- it was next to a Street Fighter 3 cabinet, which is what I went to see -- and it immediately renewed my enthusiasm for 2D fighters. I loved so much about KOF. That continued to the Dreamcast, and KOF '98/Dream Match '99 would be my favorite fighting game for the system. But I was more into the fighting genre during the Saturn era and tried more things then. I think I'll find your Saturn list even more interesting and I look forward to it.
So many great games, most of my Dreamcast favourites are fighters! VF3tb was a release titel here in Europe, so it had a honeymoon with my console. I soon moved on to SC, DOA2 and the rest. I love Street Fighter 3 Third Strike. It’s head to head with Soul Calibur and MvsC2 for me. But there are so many greats to choose from, Power Stone is great, and JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure is super cool. I’m very interested in Hyper SF2 for matching services, but don’t have a way to play Japanese games. I’ve heard good things about Garou: MotW too.
What an epic episode! I think the Saturn has the best 2D fighters and the Dreamcast has the best 3D ones. And It’s not just because of the graphical strengths and controllers of each system either. Well, maybe it is. I guess we’ll have to find out on the next episode.
Great list! Strong support for VF3tb. Would've even put it higher on the list, as I'm not huge on Guilty Gear (though it's gorgeous). VF3 seemed perfect for the DC controller. Loved it in the arcade, loved it on the DC. Also second the motion for Plasma Sword. It is seriously way up there for me, top 5 easily. For the humor as well as the action and weirdness. Definitely would've included Power Stone 1 if the list were mine, as well as likely Ready 2 Rumble because I'm insane. But really, R2R looks REALLY great on DC even now.
One thing i liked about Marvel Vs capcom 2 that rarely gets mentioned...the fact you had to unlock characters i found by that way i was not overwhelmed by the characters up front and i would gradually try them as they were unlocked
No Power Stone or Third Strike! Oof! Heh but yeah, Soul Calibur is beyond perfection; absolutely staggering title that options and impact wise puts most fighting games to shame. Great video.
SLX makes a Dreamcast FG vid. Puts song of a fighting game never released on the Dreamcast in the background. but forreal...SC2 is one of my favorite games of all time.
I felt the Saturn had better original 2d/3d fighters. And the Dreamcast just improved them. There vs. series started there, Virtua fighter was better there, street fighter alpha 3 was better there, and original fighters like fighters megamix was there. Don't get me wrong though, power stone and soul caliber was amazing even to this day. But in my opinion, the original version of some of these fighters on the Saturn set the stage for the Dreamcast classics we love today. That's why the Saturn fighters are better.
Good video SLX. I didn´t expect a Top 10 Sega Dreamcast Fighting Game video. Speaking of Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Sould Calibur first let me say well deserved places but i couldn´t took one over another because i had and still have so much fun with those two.
That's a great list of games there. The Saturn's gonna have a hard time beating that. I think it's gonna be a no contest for me. Most of the old 2d fighters from back then have sequels with larger rosters and just as good gameplay, and I always hated early 3d fighters. Soul Calibur is the earliest 3d fighter I ever thought was worth playing, though there were certainly some good 2.5d fighters out there like Rival Schools. But, hey, maybe you'll show me some surprises in your next video. (Actually, I hope so; I always love finding out about cool fighting games I didn't know about.) I always meant to check out Plasma Sword ever since seeing that guy in Marvel vs Capcom 2, but never really looked into it. I had no idea it was even a fighting game. But your recommendation here is making me want it now. I'm curious, does the Dreamcast version of Alpha 3 have the same weird quest mode that the PS1 version had? I remember gaining points to buy new abilities and setting up your own custom "ism." I liked that mode, but the PS1 version of the game plays like crap. I never liked Alpha 3 until I played the PS2 version, and suddenly realized the game was great if it was actually running at the right freakin' speed... Soul Calibur and Project Justice are still fantastic reasons to own a Dreamcast. They are both so good... Project Justice is still an exclusive as far as I know. And even though there was a digital version of Soul Calibur for more recent systems, it really disappointed me when I found out it didn't have the map exploration mode. Even without the HD video output, the Dreamcast version is best just for having that game mode.
SFA3 had DLC you could download for the Saikyo Dojo mode, just more matches. Good ole NetZero free internet times to put the Dreamcast online. Actually I think that would be a good episode, Dreamcast games with DLC.
I really enjoy what SNK did with KOF Dream Match 1999. The fact that they used low resolution 3D and pixel art texturing allowed the visuals to still maintain the pixel-art esthetics, yet add depth and complexity to the backgrounds... I think it was a much more tasteful way of combining low-res fighters with backgrounds. I love Marvel vs Capcom 2 to death, but I never really liked the mismatch of styles between background and fighters.
I had played DoA2 quite a bit as a demo on one of the first demo disks when I was young. Probably should have gotten it. I was fortunate enough to grow up on Soulcalibur though. We had actually gotten it secondhand from my eldest brother who borrowed it from a friend. I played it extensively for years with and without a VMU. I still remember the days of trying to figure out how to unlock Inferno and that one night when I finally did but literally the next day, the game went missing :T Years later, got a new Dreamcast and a much scratch-less Soulcalibur and 100% everything. Twice. These days, I actually consider it second-best to SCVI because that game has everything I liked about SC1 and more but that's obvious given that it is essentially a remake of SC1 with a bunch of new elements, gameplay and story-wise.
Fighting games are easily one of my favourite genres, so if I ever get enough spare funds to support retro game purchasing for two systems (the Wii's my priority), it'll be handy to use these recommendations when looking for Dreamcast fighting games. It was quite the exciting looking line-up of games and you did a great job of describing them concisely and passionately. Admittedly, Dead or Alive 2 and Soulcalibur were games I would have already intended to purchase. I enjoy both series very much and often hear high praise from both fandoms for these specific entries in the series. Still, it was great to see them rank so highly. Plasma Sword is one I'm not too familiar with, but I got to say, it looked great. The character designs were terrific and I do enjoy my 3D fighters so I'll keep an eye out for it as well in future. I am surprised to see that neither Power Stone game made the list. They are terrifically fun games and very unique as fighters; with the second game being a perfect multiplayer experience. I guess that goes to show just how many fantastic fighters the Dreamcast is host too.
Another great vid, SLX! Huge fan of your channel! "I just couldn't get into the upbeat, jazzy soundtrack..." As a jazz lover that grew up around metalheads, I've certainly heard this one before!! Hahaha Keep up the amazing vids man, peace.
Hey man, I gotta say your content is 10/10 and although you deserve a million plus subscribers I really like your current sub count, it’s a nice amount.
Project Justice is super underrated. Wish it got a remaster. Dreamcast was a hell of a fighting game machine. MVC2 still holds up as one of the greatest fighting games ever. I forgot both CVS2 and GGX were released on it!
I'd say it's close for actual games. When it comes to controllers the Saturn wins outright whether it be pad or stick. So for me Saturn edges it That said get both :)
Hi Sega Lord X! This list is pretty much the same one I'd have in mind for DC fighting games. The surprise for me is that none of the Street Fighter III games made the cut, given how close they are to the original arcades. Have a good one!
I really didn't know if Street Fighter 3 would be the top choice - as it is, I agree with your list for the most part. One question: given the limitations of the Dreamcast controller, did you use a specialised controller for the games needing 6 buttons as a necessity? I didn't enjoy SFA3 on the PS1 as much as on the Saturn due to the controller, so I'm not sure I'd want it on the Dreamcast either
My top fighting games for the system: - CAPCOM VS SNK 2 - MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2 - CAPCOM VS SNK - STREET FIGHTER ALPHA 3 - DEAD OR ALIVE 2 - kOF 99 evolution (rearranged soundtrack & 3d backgrounds) - Street FIghter III 3rd strike - SOUL CALIBUR - guilty gear x - project justice
I missed out on King of Fighters Dream Match 99 on the Sega Dreamcast back in my day, I played KOF 98 in arcades a lot and pumped a lot of quarters in the game. When I got an Xbox 360 then that's where I finally got KOF 98.
Sad part is I owned this game but never played it! Never could get My Dreamcast to play Imports! :( (I'm Thinking I still might have this Game) time to go trough My collection! :Note if I ever get it working I always wanted Capcom Vs SNK 2! :D
Despite not agreeing with your number 1 choice - I still think this is a solid list and that there's heaps of great fighting games on the DC. Funny thing was I had just turned off my DC after getting an arse whooping from Bison in SF Alpha 3 and first thing I see when I opened my phone is this video 😅 I would definitely have Fighting Viper's 2 in my top 10
When I first saw DOA2 running, I had a hard time believing it was all running in real time, particularly the cinemas. Also, the lack of load times was something that I still find amazing to this day. From a technical perspective, it is absolute perfection.
Some felt (and still do) that it's actually better graphically than the PS2. In my opinion Dreamcast was a more powerful console graphically than PS2.
@@darinherrick2503 It was and still is because the DC port had anti aliasing and the PS2 port heavy jaggies. Later on Tecmo released DOA2 Hardcore on PS2 with some extra costumes but if i remember right even this port was inferior to the DC version.

There's a reason why so many of these Capcom fighters on the Dreamcast have gone up in value. They are essentially arcade perfect copies.
mvc2 was played on dreamcast in tournament for years cause of that.
If I’m not mistaken the Dreamcast port of mvc2 is better than the arcade

A great list indeed, but I was surprised not to see either of the Powerstone games make your top 10. For me these remain standout Dreamcast titles which represented everything that was great about the system. Incredible graphics, great mulitplayer action and a unique style of gameplay which you just couldn't find on any other console!

For all the greatness it is and was it's legacy was completely overshadowed by the PS2.

Great idea 👍 I'mma do that with projector
Thats badass teach these kids real gaming then teach them their lessons xD
Soul Calibur isn't just my favorite fighting game on the Dreamcast, it's my very first Dreamcast game that I bought with the system.
Me too, and Sonic Adventure was my Second.
Soul Caliber is probably one of the greatest fighting games ever made along with street fighter 2, MK 2 and Tekken 3.
@@saadsaif821 It seems you like Fighting games ...
Definitely agree about Tekken 3. On top of looking good on the PS1 It also had so many extras in it.
The top 3 fighting game sequels I personally want capcom to make are:
Power Stone 3
Rival Schools 3
Capcom vs SNK 3
I was stuck playing Soul Calibur & Soul Calibur 2 for years. Such great fighting games!
Love the Saturn and Dreamcast. Both consoles keep giving once you start playing the Japanese exclusives. It's like finding a whole new console to play. Just finished the fan English translated Napple Tale for Dreamcast. Another great video SLX!!!
Power Stone totally got snubbed!
I played it on the demo disc that came with my Dreamcast that I got for xmas of 99. I remember it being fun
That was the best fighting game on Dreamcast.
Great list but I would put Third Strike and Mark of the Wolves over a couple on your list.
Third strike is better in the arcade tho
Mark of the Wolves is better than almost any fighter on any system, but the Dreamcast port sucked.
Both of those classics fighters were flawed on the Dreamcast.
@kikilaker6698 missing frames of animation and lag input which actually affects the game's meta since it messes with certain combos
Dreamcast was indeed great but the PS2 was possibly the greatest console released so far.
@@gmac673 dreamcast was so much better ps2 was just hype
@@djanthony9759 PS2 is the greatest console ever and it's not up for debate. This is coming from a huge Sega fan.
@@the757general2 your not a sega fan
Gawd I wish they'd make a dream cast mini and include these fighting games in their lineup. :)
This man needs 100,000 subs for the constant quality of his vids. Thank you Sega Lord x. I woke up sick as hell but these vids do help. Keep up the awesome work.
I’d love to see a rare and expensive Dreamcast games list similar to your previous Saturn entries. Great video as usual
I was seriously just playing Soulcalibur like an hour ago. No joke haha. Amazing game, but SCII is my favorite 1v1 fighter ever!
Why the first one and not 2.
I mean the second one pretty-much improves on the first in every single way
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike is my favourite game of all time.
@@RetrOrigin Yea, it does. But I still love it though!!!
It's also 480i by default which doesn't look so good, but if you hold L+Start when it boots you can play it in its native 240 double strike mode. Unfortunately scaling to 480i was common for 2D fighters on Dreamcast and PS2.
@@cbarger2327 Thanks. In all of these years, I never knew about that. Gonna try it out this evening.
Chris Barger if you have the VGA box, you get 480p and it looks great
Great video.
Capcom hit it out of the park with their entire ‘Cast roster.
The notification for this popped right as my break ended😢 Can’t wait to watch it later, keep up the great work brother!
Appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching.
capcom vs snk2 is very underrated, one of my favorite fighters of all time
He probably should have mentioned it never got an official US release.
Not on the Dreamcast anyway, the US would have to wait for the PS2 version as well as some weird GameCube version called like Capcom vs SNK 2 AO.
I love that game Capcom Vs SNK2
It's unreal how good Soulcaliber still looks.
Soul Calibur, what an introduction to this glorious system. To see Namco deliver this masterpiece on it's long time rivals system was truly the stuff of dreams and made for an unforgettable introduction to this generation.
Sega Lord X, love your channel and series of episodes, I'm never disappointed with your content and I'm always amazed.
I miss my old Dreamcast and that wicked arcade stick with the green buttons. So many amazing fighters Thanks Sega Lord X, this brings back the memories.
That arcade stick was perfection, exactly the same stick and button you saw in the arcades.
RIP :(
Personally I love the music in marvel vs capcom 2, it just makes the game feel like a huge party
I’m definitely in the minority in that respect. I just couldn’t stand it after awhile.
Hearing 'Gonna take you for a ride' over and over again on the character select screen did start to grate after a while.
Sega Lord X I hated it as well, YOURE GONNA TAKE MY FOR A RIDE???? Aaaaargghhhh!!!
Not a song I don’t like on the soundtrack, but I could totally understand why someone wouldn’t. A weird jazzy soundtrack isn’t exactly what I’d expect from Marvel or most Capcom games
I like it except for the character select screen!
Capcom vs snk 2 is one of the greatest 2d fighters EVER done and deserves wayyy more love than it gets.
Wasn't the Dreamcast Capcom vs SNK 2 only released in Japan?
Yup. SLX must have missed that. He caught guilty gear X being exclusive to Japan. (It wouldn't come to the US until the PS2 version)
Ironically just like guilty gear X we wouldn't see Capcom vs SNK 2 until the PS2 although there was also some weird GameCube version.
I think it was something like Capcom vs SNK 2 AO.
Capcom vs snk EO came out for both gamecube and xbox
10. Virtua Fighter 3tb
9. DOA2
8. Soul Calibur
7. Virtual On Orotario Tangram
6. Power Stone
5. Project Justice
4. King of fighters Dream Match
3. Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves
2. Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike
1. Capcom VS SNK 2 (import)
I was 16 years old back in the year 2000 when the original CVS dropped, and just when I saw Capcom and SNK get together to make a crossover game, my teenage mind was system overload BLOWN to see the two mecha giants for 2-D fighting games crossover.
Man I loved playing Virtua Fighter 3tb, Soul Calibur and DOA back then
What I learned from Dreamcast is if it's a 2D fighting game made by Capcom, it's a must have.
I feel like Vampire Chronicles should of at least got a honorable mention.
Yeah i also missed it in here, same for Fighting Vipers 2 but it's not our TOP 10 list and everyone got a different taste. Still a solid list.
@@iPlaySEGA 👍
Aw, no love for Tech Romancer? That was one of my favourites.
Kinda surprised 3rd Strike didn't make the cut!
Also I know I'm in the minority but I preferred CvSNK 1 if only for the shop. Much like Marvel 2, I spent dozens of hours grinding to get shop points to unlock characters, stages and music and loved every minute of it!
Soul Calibur is such a gem, I even think that it's my favorite Dreamcast game.
Thats it! Im diggin out my dreamcast and the over 60 games i have for it.
Haha! That's how it starts!
IMO you should switch it with Vampire Saviour Chronicles but HEY, it's your TOP 10 list, not mine. ; )
Just when I think I know my way around the DC library you give me a reminder that I'm still a beginner. Great list my dude.
Soul Calibur, no question.
@@otaking3582 I know. 2 is better than 1 and 3 is better than 2, ect. But for a Dreamcast Soul Calibur game, it's PERFECT.
@@rainehappy7097 3 is most definitely not better than 1 or 2
Is the Sega Dreamcast more powerful then the Neo Geo systems?
Far more powerful.
Honorable mentions:
Marvel vs Capcom 1
Street Fighter 3: Double Impact
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
Power Stone
Power Stone 2
Mortal Kombat Gold
Psychic Force
Virtual On Tangram Ontario (sp?)
Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves
Sega always had an arcade mentality. Sega always seemed to ignore the "made for home" market compared to Nintendo and Sony. Most of Nintendo's exclusive hits were "made for the home" and would stink as arcade games. But Sega owned the Arcade-Style market.
Third Strike didn't play well on Dreamcast, at the time I didn't know any better but going back after being used to better ports it's noticeable.
DOA2 impressed me so much back then. Amazing game.
How did the dreamcast come out with so many good games in such a short period of time
Would love to see you do a video on the Top 10 Sega games to not be released on a Sega console.
How DARE you not include (INSERT GAME HERE) in your list!
Thanks for pumping out the content, it's one of the highlights of my day.
Thanks man. Really appreciate you watching.
Happy 100k Subs!! Well deserved!!
Amazing!!
Hey man I just want U to know that U R the only channel that truly has this kind of 90s vibe in the videos. Good job
The game franchise was Itagaki's baby. He made sure to take good care of it. It was sad to see him leave Tecmo like that.
I only had the Dreamcast and I had most of these excellent games
Power Stone 2, SF3 3rd Strike, Last Blade 2, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Fighting Vipers 2, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure all missing the cut. WOW. I know it speaks to the quality depth the system had in this genre but still…
3rd Strike and Mark of the Wolves were not very good ports on Dreamcast
I also appreciate that you included the proper single-word moniker for your number one pick.
Used to play Dead or Alive 2 on a demo disc with my sister. Great times. Keep up the great work and better content
Another awesome video! You have good taste. These are some of my favorites as well.
What an epic episode! I think the Saturn has the best 2D fighters and the Dreamcast has the best 3D ones. And It’s not just because of the graphical strengths and controllers of each system either. Well, maybe it is. I guess we’ll have to find out on the next episode.
There is a hell of an argument to be had on the preferences of 2D vs 3D and controller. I will be focusing on it heavily.
(Actually, I hope so; I always love finding out about cool fighting games I didn't know about.)
I always meant to check out Plasma Sword ever since seeing that guy in Marvel vs Capcom 2, but never really looked into it.
I still remember the days of trying to figure out how to unlock Inferno and that one night when I finally did but literally the next day, the game went missing :T
Years later, got a new Dreamcast and a much scratch-less Soulcalibur and 100% everything.
"I just couldn't get into the upbeat, jazzy soundtrack..."
As a jazz lover that grew up around metalheads, I've certainly heard this one before!! Hahaha Keep up the amazing vids man, peace.
Something must have gone wrong with the editing on this video cause Power Stone wasn't included.
At the time, I had most of these games. I came back to Dead or Alive 2 the most.
So for me Saturn edges it
That said get both :)
Street fighter 3 is an amazing Game in dreammcast 👍🏼
Hi Sega Lord X! This list is pretty much the same one I'd have in mind for DC fighting games. The surprise for me is that none of the Street Fighter III games made the cut, given how close they are to the original arcades. Have a good one!
Garou Mark of the walls.
Street fighter 3 3rd strike=two peices of art.
Project Justice was my jam back in middle school. Such an underrated series.
During its life I invested in a fight pad for the DC. I couldn’t stand the regular controller for fighting games.
My top fighting games for the system:
- CAPCOM VS SNK 2
- MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2
- CAPCOM VS SNK
- STREET FIGHTER ALPHA 3
- DEAD OR ALIVE 2
- kOF 99 evolution (rearranged soundtrack & 3d backgrounds)
- Street FIghter III 3rd strike
- SOUL CALIBUR
- guilty gear x
- project justice
Power Stone 2, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Third Strike and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 were SO perfect, they had to be created not by humans, but by God.
Funny thing was I had just turned off my DC after getting an arse whooping from Bison in SF Alpha 3 and first thing I see when I opened my phone is this video 😅
I would definitely have Fighting Viper's 2 in my top 10
